Many reviewers have stated that it feels different from a typical FWD vehicle because of the LSD which almost makes it seem like AWD. Hopefully, I will find out with first hand information this Winter. I've never in my life purchased a vehicle over $25,000 so this would be significantly more than double. Most of the cars I've owned have been FWD and this is arguable the best FWD vehicle ever built so I want my very last ICE vehicle to be special, which I believe this will be.

Acura did do the right thing by keeping it a 6sp manual and FWD but outfitted with the former, this could be a real rocket ship! However, I wonder if the so-called “fun factor” of having a MT is what the overall car market really wants. There will of course always be driving enthusiasts who prefer manuals but on the street, the competition isn’t pining over who has a car with the greatest involvement factor when stopped at a light. I like the Integra a lot, but I feel like Acura missed out on not including a sunroof on the Type R version. Sports variants back in the 80s and 90s always included a sunroof because they were meant to be driven on the road and not track (see original M3, Civic Si, etc.). Even the most recent Focus RS and Golf R offer/ed sunroofs because they understand that these are meant for people who want to drive back roads with their windows open listening to the engine and enjoying the wind. Honda has lost the message on the Civic Type R and I believe it is lost even more on their luxury version of the car when it is the only Acura without a sunroof.
@TheFK8Life Жыл бұрын
None of the Type Rs have ever had a moonroof - it raises the center of gravity, adds weight and reduces chassis rigidity. Honda owners care about performance and the Acura Integra Type R had OPTIONAL air conditioning and OPTIONAL radio. As you could order them without to lighten the car You clearly don't know Hondas or their owners. The mid grade Integra GSR had a moonroof as did the Si Civic. Both the Civic and Integra Rs remove luxuries and even offer base model Rs with fewer features to remove weight/cost aka Club racer versions with steel wheels and cheap seats so race teams can add their own gear.

@@TheFK8Life as a longtime U.S. Honda owner (original 1st gen Honda Accord hatchback, CRX Si, refreshed CRX Si, Del Sol, and Acura TSX Wagon) I do know what the owners want. Most Type R Hondas did not come stateside. US owners have traditionally wanted the extra luxury. You make a good point regarding the current Honda Type R's track focus and the fact that the old Type R Integra did not have a sunroof. However, Acura is their luxury brand and there should be a sunroof and you will find that complaint all over Integra forums and other websites.

@@WolfyTime I don't care about their complaints - Acura is only going to make 400 of these a month - the majority of people running their mouth won't own one. My FK8 doesn't have a moonroof and I don't want it- they end up leaking anyway lol replace the seals, slider motor etc just another headache - dead weight. This is probably the last ICE manual Integra offered - piece of history really. The self driving automatic everything with massage seats will come soon enough - I'd rather be actually driving and enjoying the car vs just letting the computer drive me home at the speed limit. Buy a tesla for that - soulless appliance for boring people who don't enjoy actually ripping their own gears.

@@TheFK8Life anybody who buys this car doesn't have money to deal with the issues you run into when modifying the car to have a sunroof. A sunroof is a long-standing standard item for old school fast versions of street cars because they are viewed as back road cars. The M3 has always had it (not CSL), Focus RS did, and Golf R. I certainly think Honda is concerned by what tuners want, but I imagine they want to sell their whole stock which requires more than just the tuner community. Your current project does sound pretty cool though.

@@WolfyTime The msrp of my car was 39k and I paid 52k - they were asking 60k for mine and 75k for the LE version Wheels and tires are easily 3 to 4k depending on brands. Basic bolt-ons are 4k - larger drop in turbo is 2500 to 2800 - fuel system is another 5000 for direct injection only fuel supply. Hell some guys are spending 3k on valved exhaust systems and 5k for titanium exhausts A moonroof is cheap if anyone really wants one. The Supra? No moonroof The new Z? No moonroof Cayman? No moonroof Emira? No moonroof People spending 95k+ for a 4cyl Cayman don't get a moonroof? A luxury performance car without a moonroof? If was just an appliance a moonroof would be offered like it is on the lower models of the Civic and Integra .....the S/R models are about performance so the enthusiasts who are in that market - especially long time Honda racers like myself....no moonroof is a plus. I can buy anything I want and chose the R - if this one doesn't get a built motor 900+hp my FL5 civic will - keep my FK8 as a daily/street car and build the FL5 to 1000+hp for half mile/roll races. These cars will be electric Hybrids the next go around as Honda electrifys the lineup and I have no interest in EVs ....if it doesn't have a manual trans from Honda I probably get myself a pdk or dct car from another brand. I had considered the GT4RS Porsche but 180k msrp plus 100k markup just felt silly - now my R will embarass one easily 😆 The money I saved buying an R over other track car options has allowed me to play with it and push its limits with zero regrets. 3100lbs - 700+hp and room for 4 ....very practical family car for me 😆

I guess they wasn't planning on selling too many of these because there's no automatic transmission option or dual-clutch automatic ...

2 big problems with the Type-S. #1 they removed too many luxury features (memory seats, sunroof, back seat, etc) to justify $52K. #2 it's going to be cross shopped with the Civic Type R, Golf R, GR Corolla, WRX, etc. The customer that can afford $52K is either looking for something much more luxurious or much more sporty (Supra, Nissan Z, etc).

I paid 52k for my 2021 R - it has 640hp now and soon to be 700+hp Guys like me have the money for this car and Type Rs have sold for 75k+ which means I'm not alone. This isn't for the random pleeb who will keep it stock and putt putt around town in his automatic coffin with a badge on it. They are making around 400 of these a month and all of them will sell at msrp or well above. This chassis/motor combo can easily make 1000hp+ and be a riot - if you know, you know.

I don't think that this car competes with the Supra or Nissan Z. Front wheel drive and 4-seats make the Type S more practical. I don't think I would trust a rear wheel drive vehicle for winter driving.

Dealership markup will be there but I'm guess it'll be closer to $5K markup vs the $25K markup I'm seeing in the twin cities metro area on the Type R (saw an FL5 for $70K and a FK8 for $60K -- both used).

OMG. I thought the $15,000 from my Honda dealership was horrible, but $25,000 is on a whole other level. That's why I'm glad I got in on the Type S pre-sale. I have to ask my Acura dealer if they will be charging mark-ups now that the pre-sale is over.
@con2719 Жыл бұрын
Prefer the old format. Acura should have put a DCT, ventilated seats and a sunroof. Manual gears are a pain in the ass with heavy traffic!

I'm anxious to see what it will do on a track.I still think the FL5 will outperform it there.

So in Canada it will be 70k to start. Apply taxes dealer fees looking at 80k! I make 100k a year after taxes and deductions 50k. Would need a second mortgage. Car prices are nuts now.

Pain points: lack of sound insulation, not-so-efficient mpg figures, crazy thin tire walls… How on earth can dealer mark up this thing? Sell it more than TLX Type S lol?
@mikemccormick6128 Жыл бұрын
It is not true that it doesn't have sound insulation. It's significantly quieter than a Type-R.

Acura went the right way bc if they had the awd dual clutch it would lose the PURE feel. Thank heavens there is no moonroof! Also kudos for not slapping on plastic whell fenders. I hope this trend will end soon, like cauliflower. What I do not care for is the ipad screen. IT should be in-dash... also ditch plastic ducts in front. I cannot see the benefit.
