5 years ago.. Kia and Hyundai were jokes. Now US brands feel like worst auto brands when it comes to attention to detail, design, perfection, performance, value, U name it is far superior to most competition from Ford, GM, FCA. Shows how weak US engineering and skill is when compared with Korean one, that too while Korea being a pint sized nation as opposed to a giant like USA. It seems that it is true that US is a super power and supreme nation only in Hollywood movies... In reality almost all countries have grown better than USA

Korean vehicle are competing with Japan and Euro trash built vehicles... not big US vehicles... expect for US based Tesla, which also seems to be doing OK vs the competition, I guess? And its ironic to bitch and whine about the US on a US platform that profits from your whining.... must be a putin bot ;) Also 5 years ago.. only trolling YT wannabe experts without life... where the only ones that thought Kia and Hyundai were jokes... when they were already better than most brands...

@@discerningmind Hyundai/Kia been invested and developing Hydrogen Car since 1995, then later in late 2000s, they switched their future EV strategy into Two Track with BEV and Hydrogen Fuel Electric Vehicle. They actually heavily considered partner up with Toyota for hybrid vehicles but Toyota wanted only their system to be used not independently developed by Hyundai (which makes whole lot sense since Hybrid Tech is Toyota's pivotal ICE/Electric Tech they have so far) so that was no go for them. So Hyundai/Kia's New Plan is to invest and acquire New Battery Pack Tech from infant companies like Canoo (where they acquired Skatboarding Platform) and Rimac Automobili (800v Battery Power Train). As for the Hydrogen Plan, they seem to steer away from daily commune vehicles to commercial ones like Trailers and Truck, turning them into autonomous drones (They actually shipped 12 of Hydrgoen Commercial Trucks to Switzerland few years ago). However, Kia is working on FK Prototype which is Stinger based Mid-Engine Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle rumoured to be just for Remans 24 Race, which might hinting that it's a test bed for high performance cars with FCEV tech but highly doubtful though.

I think it is more that the frunk very broadly is representative of the packaging opportunities possible in an EV platform. You open the bonnet and...just a big space, no engine. It is a visual reminder that this car is different, and on KZbin, visuals are important. When my EV6 finally arrives (in 18ish months) I plan to use the larger frunk I. My RWD GT-line for charging cables, an extension cord, tyre kit, securement straps, tow ball... all the little stuff I don't use often, but may need.

I have the First Edition EV6 in urban yellow reserved. No date yet on arrival. Quoted somewhere between February and May. I also don’t have final pricing on it yet. Unfortunately the dealership adds $2k markup, so that won’t be pleasant and I’m unable to change dealerships at this point. When I reserved, it said $58,000. It’s practically the GT-Line with all the options and a few add-ons to make it unique as a First Edition. I definitely prefer it to any other EV on the market today.
@natemorin2 жыл бұрын
You should be pretty happy with the $2k market adjustment. My dealer Koons Kia of Owings Mills notified me my FE would arrive on Feb 20th. Then told me they were adding a $15k market adjustment bringing the car to $75k with and out door after tax and tax of about $80k. They're nuts and going to drive away a lot of customers with that level of greed. I told them to keep it and I would settle for a model y at more than $12k less even after the $7500 rebate on the EV6.

I definitely prefer the looks of this over the Ionic. I noticed that there are many many mentions of how the EV6 compares to the Mach E but not much mention of the Polestar or the Tesla. Why is that? Also, how do the driving dynamics of the EV6 compare to the Stinger? Thanks for the review.
@Mytagforhalo2 жыл бұрын
The Ev6, mach-e, and Model Y are all cross over sized. The polestar is very similar to the model 3 when it comes to overall size and space. The crossovers have much larger interiors and rear cargo. Their physical sizes can be compared to some full SUV's in length. The polestar is the definition of a cockpit in the front seet, similar to the C8 corvette. It h can be tight in the thigh space and impede your right leg if you're on the larger side. But in that same manner, it makes you feel like you're part of the car. You can throw it around and both you and the vehicle feel planted. The car will feel more premium than the rest in it's entirety. It's basically what you might imagine a fully electric muscle car might be like (with better cornering) Personally, if a lease works for you, i'd lease a P2 on the grounds that it's performance specs are a bit behind and we dont know it's depreciation yet. That way you can use the credit off your lease and make it a much better deal than a tesla for example. And you can get one with a short lead time. You also can keep it after your lease, unlike a tesla. It's full price however is harder to swallow imo unless you really value the build quality. If you cant use the tax credit with a loan, and a lease is out of the question, it's right up there with all of these better optioned vehicles. (more range, faster charging, much more room, ect) The p2 is just kind of in an odd place imo. I think that if they could atleast bump up it's charging speeds in a future generation it would be a very well rounded car. Also, for some reason with progressive, a quote on the P2 was 1/3rd that of a model 3 long range.
@amperformance79982 жыл бұрын
I think the reason they focused so much on the Mach-E is because it appears both presenters personally own Mach-Es. So that is is where they have a bulk of recent experience.

Not sure I understand the comment, “small frunk storage due to heat pump and crumple zone,” Alex. Model Y ships with a heat pump and allows for a frunk (larger than Mach-E) and tops crash test scores, is faster, drives like a BMW with more storage and range. LG batteries used by Kia with no mention of the issues GM is facing. Not hating on the review but Model Y is the class leading benchmark and it was mentioned exactly twice. 50k Mach-E’s on the road; Tesla sold 1M EV’s last year 🤔
@jimji27742 жыл бұрын
I didn't get a chance to drive the Ionic 5 but sat in the lower and mid level trims and the EV6 is just quite a bit higher end feeling cabin. If you are a long upper body type you may have head room issues but I am 6' with long legs so I did not though it did feel small overall in there. To me it is much better looking on the outside as well but that is subjective of course. I will point out something that I feel is the best selling point of all. On my brand new Rivian R1T pickup the regen braking is really intense in the standard setting and the only other option is one higher setting. It is difficult to drive smoothly on the highway and makes some whining motor sounds. I believe the EV6 I drove had 5 levels of adjustment with the highest level being softer than the standard level on the Rivian. So much nicer to drive on the open road I can't tell you. Even cooler is instead of hunting on the UI screen to change the regen level it is right at your fingertips with instant change available via the paddle shifters. The lowest setting is an off altogether for flat opens roads that felt like putting an ICE vehicle in neutral. I found I could bump up the regen while driving when I wanted to slow down for a car in front kind of like downshifting in a standard manual shifting car of the past. This one feature added to a really fast and comfortable handling car is a game changer for me.

This is Michael. Great review. The Kia EV6 is a much better vehicle than the Mustang Mach -e or even the Tesla Model 3 that we have. The Mustang copies Tesla's tablet interface which is a huge mistake, necessitating double moves to accomplish anything, where the ev6 is much more user friendly and it's dashboard is much more interesting. The 360 bird's eye view and the blind spot indicator with the turn signal also make this a much safer car to drive. Add to this the EV6 looks a lot better, is notably faster, has a much better warranty, and it charges faster and it becomes an easy decision between the two.

I prefer the more upright stance of the Ionic 5, but would be willing to give the EV6 a try, though my experience with 3 years of owning a 2020 Soul EV hasn't been great in terms of service: a/c was out of commission for almost all of calendar 2021, with Kia constantly having to order individual parts all the way from Korea. Kia needs to get its parts supply for the NA market in order. I also prefer the interior design of the Ionic 5 as well, more of a relaxed theme than the more aggressive design of its Kia stablemate.

Just FYI, you’re not selling the upholstery well by continuously using ‘imitation leather or suede.’ Imitation lessens the value by saying it isn’t a premium material like leather, it’s a knock off… where as Vegan leather/suede sounds much better and the materials are much more eco-friendly.

Great review of a car that looks nice. I stopped by the dealer in Burlingame as they called me that they had several in stock. Other than looking at the car and sitting in it, there's not much else to say. They wouldn't turn on the car or schedule a test drive. The sales guy says they are a car company making an electric car and not a technology company (he wouldn't say Tesla). I asked what's the selling price. $10K over MSRP so it would be $62K but did not include the technology package that will add another $1500. The car had gap issues and uneven lines along some of the edges. Paint look good though The interior definitely look better than my model 3 but at $62K before tax and license your getting into model Y pricing. Kia will be sending this dealership 2 cars a month until the end of the year so I don't expect the price to change much. You're better off calling your local dealers if you want to be in line to atleast sit in one. The various dealers here in michigan have said they're expecting to recieve their first allocations the last week of feburary. The available cars are certainly limited here in the non-ev focused states at least. A loaded Gt-line is $58k if you can find one without markup. One of kia's advantages for me is that they offer higher mileage leases, making the cars much easier for most people to make use of the tax credit compared to a loan. Atleast for the Kona Ev, they have offered up to 25k mile leases.

The trunk seemed smaller than the advertised 24 cu ft, due to the angled back window. Mid console material is titanium colored hard plastic and doesn't seem premium. Overall I didn't like the looks, comfort, fit-n-finish, and esp. dealer's eyebrows - raising markup to $58K. I drove Polestar 2 just 15 minutes later and was immensely impressed with its truly premium interior and much better sales experience, void of any gimmicks and markups.

@@disla25 yep, I went and test drove a wind last Friday. It's peppy, but not quite as good as an awd Polestar 2 or a model y. But it's still quite good. The front seat has a definite wow factor, but i cna see where it's going to age kind of poorly with the infotainment situation. I secretly love the fake electric engine noise effects it makes. I was actually surprised like you said about the backs eat and rear storage area. The rear seat isn't quite as spacious as some reviewers had led to believe. Especially after test driving a model y. The rear storage looks immensely small in person like you said. It doesn't come with a charger for some reason, but some dealers are throwing them in for liability if someone drives home and somehow doesn't realize they don't have one and get stuck I love the styling of the vehicle, but at the end of the day I couldn't fathom paying anywhere near a model y's price range for it. It's only worth it imo if you absolutely love the looks and can either use the full tax credit/ don't mind leasing it to get it. Or heck, if you can actually buy a base model somewhere. Almost everyone around me is buying wind+ models. I really didn't want to like the Tesla, but after spending time in the y on ywo different test drives with family members, everyone involved suggested buying the model y at the end of the day. Absolutely loved the polestar 2 and it's a deal with the tax credit if you can use it. I just drive far too much for the slowerand limited third party charging network, and most of us are 6' tall or taller and the p2 is a little more cramped. I'd hands down buy it for a fun car if all I had to do was commute and weekend travel. .

@@Mytagforhalo Thank you for such a detailed response. Indeed, one has to love the looks which I absolutely did not. The straight, angled towards the rear-end roof line and the disproportionately short, clamshell hood totally spoil the side view for me. Interior didn't have the wow-factor, given the quite cheap looking dash material and the hard center-console plastic. I also think that the P2's back seat is more spacious, headroom-wise, for taller people, than EV6. Neither compares favorably to the large space/cargo offerings of Tesla MY, while MachE is also a far more attractive design than EV6, imo.

Great first look. I prefer the utilitarian shape of the Ioniq 5, but the interior and finish of the EV6. I hope the Genesis GV60 is something of a blend of the two.

Just got an email from Kia for my 1st Edition advising that the car doesn't come with an EVSE. I'm pretty disappointed with them. I know that it's slow, but it should be included.

For that open moonroof alone, and it's probably only EV manufacturer that offers it, it takes the cake!

Not a fan of crossovers and I really dislike directional wheels but in spite of that the styling it's a 9 out of 10. Beautiful. Kia's are knocking it out of the park on styling and the more cars are technically similar the more this will matter.

Price comparisons are always based on Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) but the dealers emphasize the word “suggested” and charge whatever they want. The dealer pricing on the Mustang was outrageous and, frankly, I stopped looking at the car because of it. I’ll wait to see how many of these Kia plans to make and how much the dealers plan to charge on a car that may have limited production. If Tesla could keep up with demand, I’d probably bump the dealer experience altogether and buy a Tesla especially since Tesla’s charging infrastructure is way better than anybody else’s right now.

I agree with you. We shopped the Kia Telluride a while back, "market adjustment" was rude. We then shopped the Tuscon Hybrid or Genesis GV 70. Again "market adjustment" buy all dealers. I look forward to a world where you can shop and buy a car like you do Tesla, or a used car like Carvana or Vroom.

In "polite and ethical" Canada, the dealers stick with MSRP.

I wonder why Alex does a good job of "writing" all the numbers and scores on screen but doesn't do that for the price but as always great review!

He's got different types of reviews. Typically the ones that get the full price spec sheet on the screen, plus comparisons to competitors are once he gets the vehicle at his home base, where he can subject it to his standardized battery of tests. This type of video is a little more thorough than his usual "first look" type videos, but he won't score/grade it completely until he can drive it at home. That said, these videos are still waaaaaayyyyy more informative than a lot of his KZbin competitors.

Great review. Help me understand why you refer to Tesla as a luxury EV while Mach E and the EV6 are considered a different (non luxury) category even at the same price range as say a Model 3? Thanks. Btw a Tesla owner here.
@markmiller32792 жыл бұрын
Mostly because Tesla has declared themselves a luxury automaker. The Model S and Model X were clearly luxury barges, so the reputation was established. Hyundai and Kia are clearly mainstream makes. The Genesis version will have more luxury features.

$42,000 for a Civic hatchback? Nope. The entire market has lost its collective mind.

It is noticed multiple places that they starts to call a hatchback crossover. Probably because crossovers can have a higher price tag.

I love the 2 spoke steering wheels, so much more comfortable to hold on long drives, also doctors say holding steering wheels somewhere between 4-8 O'Clock is much better for your neck, back, and shoulders then 9 and 3 or 10 and 2. I definately noticed that on a long drive.

When you open the front trunk lid, you can change the air filter immediately by opening the drawer behind it, which makes replacing the air filter easier than any other car. It's a pity that your review didn't tell us about this.

I’ve got an MME GTPE stuck in production with an ETA of late June. The delay has given me the opportunity to cross shop it against EV6s that are available for sale *right now*. Haven driven both, which would you prefer? I don’t want to wait a year for Kia’s GT. Is it worth waiting for the Mache GT Performance?

Four different type of noise to choose ? Does it offer the sound of a big v-twin or maybe a 6 cyl CBX ? Would prefer the latter which would go well with the integrated rear spoiler like the cbx.

I love everything about the EV6 expect the back. That back design is hideous and a deal breaker for me. It looks like a Pontiac Aztek.

I Agree with Sofian/Redline. Kia/Hyundai is on the Mach E level of EV's. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Tesla still has the best EV on the market. There's always the peace of mind knowing that a Supercharger is always where we drive the car. The autoplanning for charging stops when navigating, which is missing from the Hyundai/Kia at the moment, is an advantage on the Tesla/Mach E.
