Coincidentally, before you posted this I watched an episode of the Dick Van Dyke Show that was also centred around an art auction and even had a similar joke about accidental bidding. Neat to see how The Golden Girls does its own spin on an older joke.

My former roommate, who was the landlord of his own condo, asked me to pay for the toilet cuz it was broken. Turned out when the plumber came he took off the lid and said the chain had fallen off its handle and billed him $250. 💀 he tried charging me for my half and I said I’m a renter, not an owner. He was so mad 💀

Oh yes! I love Murder, She Wrote. It was one of the few shows that my late father and I could enjoy together. My dad would say " she's a clever old broad" which from him was high praise!

They did a really good job at making DeKimble such a hateable character even though he only has one scene. First off, they establish him as overrated and pretentious when the girls are talking about his paintings, and when he makes his official appearance, he really is as pretentious as was suggested. And while he may have had a point in calling out the girls for acting like art experts/enthusiasts when they clearly weren't, he still could have done it in a classy way. But he didn't, he instead insulted their intelligence, their looks, their clothes, all before just simply walking off. Of course, some part of me always wondered if he was that rude simply because he was dying and that was his own way of lashing out, but then again, with the way how the episode plays out, it seems like DeKimble was always an awful person. I can't help but kinda wish that the girls did make money of his painting after all. But oh well, at least they had Sofia in their corner.
