Rod Taylor said that he did not get along with Alfred Hitchcock during filming. At one point tensions were so high between the two men (the final straw came when Rod Taylor had a problem doing a scene in the kitchen involving the refrigerator, and suggested an idea to Alfred Hitchcock about how the scene could be done better than written in the script,) that Alfred Hitchcock told everyone that it was Rod Taylor who, from now on, would tell everybody how to make the movie! Rod Taylor said that their first fallout came when he first met Alfred Hitchcock. First he called the director Al, which Hitchcock did not like, then he said to Alfred Hitchcock that he hoped the sets and special effects wouldn't overwhelm the whole movie: "Well of course what I didn't understand is that the sets and special effects are SUPPOSED to overwhelm the movie! so we got off to a bad start." Rod Taylor also said that he couldn't understand why Hitchcock set up the first act of the film with a big plotline about Rod Taylor's past romance with the Susan Pleshette character, which went nowhere's.

I live in Australia we have Magpies we call this spring (Quick note feed your local magpies they will remember you and leave you alone ain't blackmail grand). my father used to feed the local magpies who would literally sit on his arm and eat out of his hand. One year we had a rare phenomena called a 'non-territorial flocking group' This is when juvenile magpies without their own territory flock together. this meant that for about 6 month we had around 40 magpies (Magpies are about the size of a crow) turn up to be fed they would sit on the railing and front lawn and sing (quite a beautiful song ) and my father would go out and feed them it would look like a scene out the birds with birds perched everywhere including on my father.

I've yet to see the flim but intriguing how something as little as birds can strike fear into someone through a horror flim
@alankohn6709 Жыл бұрын
@@bigkj2.027 A magpie is about the size of a large crow and when one of them comes at you from out of nowhere they can scare the hell out of you and they don't stop attacking till you clear away from their nest. The Birds takes that a multiplies it a thousand times and throws in twist that these aren't birds that normally attack these are the birds you see everyday it is the shock of your family dog snapping at you

I love the episode when The Simpsons parody this movie, called Day of the Dolphins. And unlike the Birds we see that the dolphins won🐬🐬🐬 although they did make a horrible sequel to The Birds. That a lot of people don't even know about.
@TroubleToby30402 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it was made for t.v. and it was painfully boring. Really, I consider this to be a little boring. Even allowing for the time period, it's VERY slow paced. And you REALLY need to get invested in the stars' "relationship". I did not get invested. Not Hitchcock's best to me.

When I was a very little kid - about 5 (That was around the end of the 1960's) I simply could not get enough of this movie, and 'The Spirit Is Willing', and the Amicus movie 'The Skull', I could not miss them. I remember seeing 'Dracula Prince Of Darkness' in a crowded car at a Drive In, such memories, what movies lacked back then in Effects they made up for with epic stories, they made what they had look Epic with the resources at hand.

The Birds-the movie-WAS NOT based on the science fiction short story from the 1950s, as everybody presumes, but was was based on a real life incident in the 1960s, in a series of sea towns in California, in which hundreds upon hundreds of birds went crazy and began attacking cars, houses, trucks, boats, residents (scientists later found out that the birds went crazy due to eating a form of plankton). Although Hitchcock had once purchased the rights to the short story The Birds, when someone sent Hitchcock a copy of the true account of a bird invasion in California a year or so earlier, Hitchcock was so intrigued by the story that he decided to film a fictionalized account of the case.

Okay but this movie makes me laugh because when my brother and I were kids our mom told us this movie used to terrify her (told us after my brother made a comment when the snakes on a plane trailer came out: what’s next? Birds on a Boat?). We started laughing about the idea. I don’t remember if my mom was with us when we went to watch it or not but we were just cracking up especially at that one part where the woman is on a boat. We were shitty preteens/early teens. I remember that we couldn’t understand what she was saying and we would mimic it. I should go back and watch it to like actually watch it

A few problems with this film: 1. WHY would the two ladies tell the kids to run away from the birds when it's a well known safety fact in dealing with wild animals, that a person NEVER run away directly from any dangerous animal being that it's a signal for the animal to attack (which is what happens to the school kids!). In fact WHY didn't the lot of them just stay in the building??? Why did they all decide to run outside? 2. A guy accidentally blows up his car in the parking lot during the same time that there's a bird attack going on in the town??Very silly, implausible, coincidence! In fact why do the townspeople even need the birds to destroy the town, all the town needs is this moron guy!! 3. Rod Taylor looks nothing like the actresses playing his mom and sister (not to mention his heavy aussie accent!). 3. HOE exactly could the birds murder the Susan Pleshette character???! Did they go at her and pierce her neck with their claws, causing her to bleed to death? Did twenty sparrows hold her down on the sidewalk, while one of the crows sat one her mouth and suffocated her? Did the birds take away her credit cards???
