9:48 That one's _incredibly_ useful to minimize overhead when taking simple notes while focusing on another task. I've been looking precisely for something like this. But alas, I switched to Linux, and want to stay independent from Windows and Mac software, so I'll have to find an alternative to Alfred.
@BryanJenks4 жыл бұрын
Look into Dmenu and using that to launch a script to take input and append to a daily note like in vim wiki? Or just a terminal :)

@@BryanJenks Yeah, I've figured it out right after asking! xD Though it wasn't that obvious at a glance. You need to remove all spaces in between to get the desired result. For thouse who are interested, in my case it looks like this: - =={var:time}== {query}

I was hoping you’d show how to set up the workflow once it’s imported into the Alfred library. I’m not familiar with how to set up the Environment variables.
@BryanJenks4 жыл бұрын
for alfred workflows you go to the workflow itself and in the top right of the interface you'll see a button that looks like "[x]" and there will also be documentation in there about how/what to configure.
@Zereniti772 жыл бұрын
Do you actually need to have Obsidian running at all when appending to the journal? I mean, the note is just a textfile, so you could append directly to it. I created a shortcut that appends text directly to a file in my Obsidian vault, without having Obsidian running at all. Very convenient if you are on iPhone for example.
@BryanJenks2 жыл бұрын
you can just append to the file and remove the node that opens the app. it is not actually necessary

Great video bryan. One thing I still don't understand though is the big picture of zetllekasten and second brain. It looks fun to play around with, but beyone that, if you're not a writer, why would you bother with storing your personal knowlege? I mean if you're a programmer, do you really need an entire subpage for how to write hello world in python?
@BryanJenks4 жыл бұрын
the uses and value are subjective and your mileage may vary. as a programmer, one use case is I can see relationships between languages and concepts like how one language implements OOP or how a concept is implemented in one language to another. it makes outlining video scripts for me easier. And frankly, I like seeing how my ideas and thoughts connect to all the knowledge I've collected. Often I'll also use the notes as a way to record a piece of information in a way and with examples that I best understood for future reference after I've forgotten it and wish to recall it. this has already happened for me with some of my python notes. plus the act of note-taking and linking it together is an active practice in spaced repetition so just partaking in the act it will also help you learn the material better for students. publish.obsidian.md/bryan-jenks/The+curating+of+a+zettelkasten+slip+box+is+an+active+practice+in+knowledge+building+and+spaced+repetition

Hi Bryan, I noticed that you also use Anki. What do you think about RemNote as an Anki alternative?
@BryanJenks4 жыл бұрын
if i wasnt already so invested into Anki and I'm not sure about Rem note's mobile options (haven't looked too hard) definitely would have been something i would have gone with. Rem note seems amazing for combining the notes and spaced repetition.
