I don't know if it's been mentioned, but for the pool noodle bit, you could use 11/2" or many 2" foam pipe insulation. Pretty much the same thing, but thinner and already black. It would make it even more accurate as I believe that's what they used on the OG props. Or at least, that's how it looks. I definitely saved this for later as I hope to get a pack this fall or winter and I totally want to do an Alice Frame mod. Great stuff!

very similar to how I did mine. My bolts go the other way, with a nice black panhead showing on the outside. One thing I didn't pay attention to is: the left side is thinner where it's supposed to be bare motherboard, and my bolts were too far to the outside, not leaving me enough room for the hardware in that area. Great mod video!

This pack is about to arrive, and the Alice frame is on the way! Is the motherboard that comes with the pack pretty strong? I see some people saying to get a stronger one. I'll be following your videos, they have been the most detailed! This video and the Spengler wand attaching video are both exactly what I was looking for! Thanks and keep up the great videos!

Steve, you're welcome. I think the motherboard is fine. It's worked out freat for me.

I actually did this right before this video dropped, did mine almost the same way I did drill a 2x4 right down the middle of the motherboard on the interior just to stabilize it a bit
@MakeItorBreakItNow Жыл бұрын
That works too. Thanks for suggesting to those who've not made the mod yet.
@dudebuchanan11 ай бұрын
I plan to do this with the 2x4. Did you screw the mounting bolt with the spacer into the 2x4? The top one in the middle? How did you handle that. I have the bolt/spacer/nut/washers. Do I get a longer bolt and put it through the 2x4?

the screws you put through the side into the L brackets, did you put the washer on the outside of the proton pack or on the inside just before the lock nut? I couldn't tell.
@MakeItorBreakItNow18 күн бұрын
As a rule I'll put a washer just before a lock nut if enough thread show through on the end...

Thanks for the video. Have a ballpark estimate of cost in the mod?

I think I mention the cost in the video, once you have the frame ~$70, you probably have another $5-$10 in hardware.

Got a technical question. On the mounting brackets how exactly did you know how low to put them is there a line or Runner they go against or the pack sits down on?
@MakeItorBreakItNowАй бұрын
The decision was based on what I saw watching various movie footage and pictures combined with where I thought it would be best structurally...
@CaptainMcPunch10 ай бұрын
I did mine in the most bootleg way possible but it luckily is light so it has held up great. I literally superglued the original screws and put them back in to hold the Spirit specific board from GBFans 😂. It's been months and it's just fine! I just wish I reinforced the V hook first cause the Spengler wand is pretty heavy. I'm excited for the new 1984 wand they just released! Maybe it's a hint Hasbro will give us an 80s pack some day. Until then I'm gonna keep loving my modded Spirit more than my Haslab.

I have so many questions! One is how dod you gauge the depth on the L brackets to get them in the right spot? I am not a handyman by any means but I want to do this conversion so bad!
@MakeItorBreakItNow Жыл бұрын
I held the 1" braces with the fasteners flush with the edge the cover rests on and twirled the 1/4" drill in the hold against the side wall to locate the center of the hole, then used the hand drill to make the center starter hole.
@DarthVeach Жыл бұрын
I keep watching at 5:48, how do you determine the depth of the L bracket? Maybe I missed where the cover rests are@@MakeItorBreakItNow

Thanks for making this! I followed along & now have a comfy alice frame on the pack. Pretty funny how the frame alone is heavier than the pack itself lol! I did have some weird issues with getting the alignment straight though. I kept going from the workbench to the mirror for like 2-3 hours as I constantly tweaked the mount placements. Ultimately my alice frame is mounted at a slight angle since that’s the only way I could make it appear upright when looking in the mirror. Maybe it’s something to do with the frame being slightly warped or something, I’m really not sure. Did you have any issues with that? Seems like you ended up with a pretty good result in the end!
@MakeItorBreakItNow Жыл бұрын
My frame is pretty straight. I can see how if the frame was warped it would be hard to mount. If you think about it, once the pack is on your shoulders. If its a little out of alignment then its hard to tell either way...
@joeyvfx_official Жыл бұрын
@@MakeItorBreakItNow That’s a good point. Although mine was a good 4-5 degrees out of wack so it was pretty distracting lol. The ion arm side kept drooping down. I do remember seeing some reviews of that frame on amazon remarking how flimsy the frame is for actual backpacking, so I guess it could be that… really hard to tell. But ultimately it looks fine now & those big washers cover up any major widening of the holes I had to do haha.

I just thought I'd point out that you don't need to make any kind of a stand for the proton pack if you've gotten an Alice frame on there if you've installed it correctly the proton Pack will stand freely on its own without any kind of a stand at all just thought I'd share that with you just in case you didn't know or nobody's told you.🚫👻👍✌️
@MakeItorBreakItNow Жыл бұрын
interesting. I guess you're talking about mounting the ALICE frame really low. The curve at the bottom is the main challenge.
