was that night and day reference a racial thing?? 😑😑 lol I kid I kid but yeah I agree, the feel when Layne sings it is much more real than when Duvall sings it.
@jonathanrusso82408 жыл бұрын
I think the main problem with Duvall is while vocally he tends to be spot on, he's to much of a fan of the band. What I mean by that is he looks so happy up there when he's singing, which is understandable because he is on stage with Alice in Chains. However, singing "Down in a hole" with a koolaid smile sucks the life right out of the song and makes it even more of an impossible task to sing with anywhere near the same emotion as Layne.
@kat1york8 жыл бұрын
So crazy you would say that. I just commented on this song with Duvall and basically said the same thing. It's so true my Alice brother..
@danathor998 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with this, he looks like he's fronting some 80s hair metal band with all the dancing about, it's ruins the atmosphere of the songs. Don't get me wrong though, Duvall is a bloody great singer.

You have the internet and the ability to find literally anything that you might want to listen to easily. There's been good bands/artists that have come out since the 90s too. You have access to music that is not only out now, but you also have access to music that has come out since the record industry popped into existence and you can also find independent artists easily. The only thing that you're missing out on currently is the ability to see bands that aren't around anymore (or aren't as good as they once were) live, so it's silly to complain about being young and how you were born in the wrong generation. It's the best time to be alive for a music fan.

Obsessed with this performance of one of my top favorite aic songs. I love this performance in particular because of the way Layne sings the second chorus. Has anyone picked up on the variation? This is the only time I've ever heard him sing it this way. When he says "I think it's gonna rain" the gonna is drawn out a tiny tiny bit longer and he dips down before going up higher on the word rain. I don't know music notes so I don't know how else to describe it. But it gives me chills to the bones every time I hear it. Go to like 2:12 I think off the top of my head and brace yourself.

The note he sings is down to the C# which is in the A chord which Cantrell plays rather than the higher A so that explains the harmonic element. Layne is also blessed by angels. I also think the crowd are singing the A and somehow it just sounds epic as a harmony. It adds a weird choral effect that you don't usually hear on an AIC track.

To come back out takes a lot of heart, That new singer had huge shoes to fill, hes got balls, the whole band does for that, Iam happy their still rocking. Great Music Great band, and even better people.

This is the only AiC song with songwriting credits given to all 4 band members.

You can see that Jerry is totally blown away by Layne throughout their european tour. Holy hell. The power coming out of Layne is freaking unreal. ALICE is off the chain here. This tour is fire.

Is she ready to know my frustration? What she slippin' inside, slow castration I'm a riddle so strong, you can't break me Did she come here to try, try to take me Did she call my name? I think it's gonna rain Oh, when I die Was it something I said, held against me? Ain't no life on the run, slowly climbing Caught in ice so she stares, stares at nothing I can help her but won't, now she hates me Did she call my name? I think it's gonna rain Oh, When I die She won't let me hide She don't want me to cry Will she keep on the ground, trying to ground me Slowly forgive my lie, lying to save me Could she love me again, or will she hate me Prob'ly not, I know why, can't explain me Did she call my name? I think it's gonna rain When I die

What an awesome version. Layne's vocals are amazing. And that haunting Cantrell riff. Definitely my favorite Chains tune.

Layne's vocals kicked ass! Layne and Jerry's vocals are incomparably haunting, sometimes dark and yet beautiful! Closest I ever came to doing heroin.
