An idea that I had to make this game more like an alien film After you reach Zero Morale (which will happen way quickly when you have more players) the next time you encounter the Alien, you die. Your character is taken off the board and all items/scrap you’re holding are placed on the space you died in.

Alien FOTN is not a complex game. But it’s the only game I’ve ever played that truly evokes the mood of the movie it’s based on. Nostalgia is a good way of describing that. The game works on two levels because a strange thing happens. Adults who have seen the movie bring their memories of the more brutal scenes to the game and it comes alive for them. Kids who haven’t seen the movie just enjoy it as a chase game.

I totally agree. And if you love Alien, I think Legendary Encounters: An Alien Deck Building Game is incredible for letting you feel like you are experiencing the movie. Actually the first four movies. It’s so much fun.

In Parker's first turn, when he meets the Alien because of the concealed token, doesn't he skip the event phase?
@BoardontheFloor3 жыл бұрын
You may be right. Nothing in the rulebook says that explicitly, but it does list the Encounter Tokens under the Encounter Phase rules, which would indicate uncovering a token as part of that phase. I totally missed that. Thanks for pointing it out.

@@BoardontheFloor actually it does say that after fleeing from the alien your turn ends, and you skip the encounter card.

6:14 it makes no sense the characters are running calmly away, either one dice should be rolled with a 80% chance to "panic" ( running in a random direction) or they automatically run in a random direction which the player can NOT control!!

@@BoardontheFloor in terms of gameplay mechanics it’s not tight at all (unlike games like mage knight or spirit island) but the theme and emergent stories it evokes can be so gripping (and comically tragic) . It’s one of my favourite games for the fun factor. Not one to take too seriously. I suspect you’d enjoy painting the miniatures . Btw have you tried mage knight solo? It’s a classic

I bought this one for my cousin on his birthday and he's a huge aliens fan. We played about 5 games of it. He did kind of complain about there being no death to a players character in an alien game. So we kinda made our own rules with it. Since there was really only 2 "hunt"cards for the alien we played it so when the aliens encounter card "hunt" is played and the alien lands on a players area that character can block the attack with exactly 2 scrap. But if they don't have any scrap to block the attack the character is killed and we take the amount of morale damage. And we did the same with Ash's one encounter card "crew expendable" if ash landed on the players area with the card he would be able to kill a player as well. This way some players could die making the game even harder. Pls lemme know if any of you came up with something similar so we could try it out

Great thoughts about this. I’m new to board gaming myself. Just wrapping up my first year in. I do love nemesis, but it took some work and it was really voidseeders that worked for me because it removed the alien ripoff feel that cheapens the game. Plus I could care less about the miniatures. I love, love, love fate of the nostromo and am looking forward to playing the directors cut. Aliens another glorious day was awesome.

this game seems to illustrate something of a trend in games lately. meaning very modest but solid IP based games that are utterly lacking any of the pretense or bloat we so often see in IP based games. some that i have noticed: alien: fotn jaws (i own and strongly recommend this if u like alien: fotn) back to the future they live the shining terror below (not officially, but we all know this is 'tremmors the game') (like jaws, recommended) horrified seems like publishers are trying to build something of a bridge between hobby and mass markets. and imo doing a pretty good job with some of these games.

Nice video. I own both games and I agree that there are same similarities regarding gameplay and theme (obviously). However, Nemesis is one of my 10/10 rated games but in order to really enjoy it you have to play it semi-coop with at least 4 people! Then it really starts to shine imo... Aliens-FotN is great as you can tech it quickly and play it with a more casual group (preferably with people who know the movie...)

I gave Fate of the Nostromo a pass because it looked like kind of a lame knockoff of Nemesis. It doesn't make any sense to me to make a game based on Alien without at least having variant rules to allow for player death. It's fine for family friendliness, but most aren't playing an Alien game with their 8 year old. I might pick up a copy now that there are house rules to make it feel a bit more like the movie.

Strange enough, there are a few family-friendly games based on Alien that have been released over the past 40 years. At least with this one, you can work around the core rules to make it more interesting for different types of players.
