The best way this movie brings Alien back to its roots is how it's about a company fucking over its employees without remorse. All these sequels focus so much on lore and gods and ultra science but like, it's so boring. This I really liked that their motivations are so simple and understandable.

Some of the most horrifying stuff in the film is just in the first ten minutes and well before the Alien comes close to showing up (besides the prologue technically).

The first three movies were definitely about corporations screwing over other people for an alien super weapon, Delivery workers, prison inmates, military members. Heck the tv show that was talked about a few years or so back was going to be corporation using poor neighborhoods, mainly minority neighborhoods, to test the Alien out

"they turn down their body temperature somehow" what? Are you sure you actually paid attention during the movie? There's like a few sentences in this episode that are just plain wrong They don't turn down their body temperature. They heat up the room to the same temp as their bodies. That way their bodies are masked by how hot the room is. That's all. It's really not rocket science, Doug

I think this was hands down the best Alien movie after Aliens easily even just based on art direction and special effects. Actually making an attempt to continue that retro future is such a breath of fresh air for these movies. In my opinion, the biggest problem was the length of the set up. I get that it's horror and they want to build suspense, but the beginning is way too long before we get to the core meat of the film. But honestly? It was worth it. The way that it's shot and the environment its in feels really good, like the turning off the gravity thing really makes you feel like you're on an old space station. Also, the practical effects they use are great and better than any Ive seen this year, idk it's just cool as a fan of the og two seeing one of these movies bring it back to the horror focus and put real effort into sets and effects.

I did not like this film. It brings in the awful black oil plot. Prometheus and Covenant ruined the mystery of the Xenomorph. Being able to remove a facehugger once it has attached itself to a person was dumb. Bad callbacks. The terrible cgi Ian Holm. Parts of The Nostromo still being intact. The original still beig alive. The main characters being able to leave the planet despite being confined to it and being able to gain easy access to a ship. Weyland or anybody else not investigating the Romulus. I mean it's right above a planet controlled by them. Being told that Weyland now wanting the Xenomorph to make hunans superior even though we were told it was for their bio Weapons division Which makes more sense. Rook somehow knowing everything that happned with the Nostromo and the crew including how Ripley got rid of the Xenomorph in so much detail. Yet Yet in Aliens everything that happened in the first film was a mystery. Which made sense. The awful hybrid at the end.

It’s an unfortunate balancing act because Ian Holm’s widow not only signed off but wholeheartedly endorsed it because she felt like Hollywood shafted him in the last years of his life. Personally I thought the effect would’ve looked better if he didn’t have all of his face or it was covered in the android goo or something. But because they kept his whole face visible and in good light it worked less. Also when he’s on the video screen, it oddly looked worse to me a lot of the time.

The xenomorphs look amazing in this movie in my opinion, like the face huggers and the full fledged version. The environments look amazing. The way that it's shot looks amazing. The contuation of the retro future is amazing. Idk the beginning has too much set up and I could see it being annoying to get through on rewatches, but it's absolutely worth imo. I mean, the first two movies are some of my favorite movies of all time, and imo everything past that has sucked. Seeing the genuine effort they put in here to honor the atmosphere and tone of the original easily makes this the third best in the franchise for me.

Fun fact: One of the producers of the film was Scott Free Productions, a property of Ridley Scott. The space station is divided into two, one of them called "Romulus" and the other "Remus", as the legendary founders of Rome. Pretty needlessly, as we never see the "Remus" part of the station. So, why the "Remus" reference? Maybe because in the roman myth, Romulus and Remus were raised by a wolf (we even see an illustration of the myth on board), and that is (almost) the title of the last Ridley Scott show for TV: "Raised by Wolves", which can be interpreted as a tribute to the original and main director of the Alien saga.

I thought the tones were handled pretty well actually. The ship they’re in is split into two halves. And whenever the characters are in one side of the ship. They experience the slower horror tones of Alien. And when they’re in the other half of the ship. They experience the more blood rushing & fast action set pieces of Aliens. Also, please play Alien Isolation. It’s easily my favourite thing in this franchise since Aliens.

I think it would have been better if maybe the first half of the movie was on the ship and then when they try to escape their ship crashes back on the planet with some of the aliens inside or something like that and have the second part take place on the planet. I don't know I guess I always wanted them to take another jab at what they tried in avp requiem with the aliens in a colony or some populated area and we are seeing them take over and people trying to fight back or at least survive. But anyway I did enjoy the movie though there were some plot holes and while these characters were not the dumbest cast, that goes to Covenant, I will agree with Doug that they were not the best. Although I loved how they used the facehuggers more and showed that they are just as scary as the others. Overall I saw this in theaters and I don't regret it.

The only complaints I've ever seen about this movie are the characters acting emotional to one another as if they have feelings and known eachother for years, and how patient the aliens are to the main characters one is a complete unwillingness to understand characters and the other is suddenly getting angry at an alien trope that's existed since the first movie, like seriously the facehhuggers sure took their sweet time to get to newt who had been near them for a solid 10 minutes so she could be saved in aliens

3:05 - 3:25 (From Rick and Morty) Morty: "I always wanted to fight a Xenomorph, but not like this! You-You ruined it!" President Andre Curtis: " *DISNEY RUINED IT!* Ya think I want 30 low-rent tv shows with bad cgi?! They film everything against that one big green screen!"

This film sorta felt like a combination of Rogue One and the first Jurassic World where it’s definitely not perfect but it’s easily the best entry since the originals and gives you just enough awesome moments to keep you satisfied.

While this film has the massive tropes you would expect from a legacy sequel from a well loved franchise that come across as very distracting at times, it is a welcome return to the claustrophobic terror of the first two, it may not be as good as those but really enjoyable for an Alien fan.

This movie was actually ok. Everybody it’s saying it’s really good but for me was just fine, maybe I am crazy but I have seen much better alien movies than this, it’s better than Prometheus & Covenant but it’s nowhere as good as the first two Alien movies

yeah was a serviceable movie with some gorgeous cinematography. The first 30 minutes was fantastic in its world building, beyond that though the callback tropes really distracted. The android was the best character imo

As much i kinda liked Romulus, i would have preferred a couple of things. Michael Fassbenders David in place of the Ash/Rook Droid and have that space station be the exact same one from Alien Covenant and tie up the entire Prometheus/Covenant storylines once and for all.

It's a real pity for alien. If it's not stuck regurgitating the same plot beats, it's torn between trying to be high-minded or just plain dumb. They have never quite found that balance since 3, in my opinion, if we're not counting games, of course, but even that somewhat falls to some of those pratfalls too.

I honestly think the new alien they introduced was simply a more fleshed out version of the human/alien hybrid from alien resurrection. Definitely scary and awesome compared to resurrection. But still kinda something they did before.

This movie is actually trying to be Alien Isolation, you can tell because the filmmakers placed a save station from the game before every big plot point.

This is probably the most split opinionated Alien movie. People either love it or hate. As opposed to Promethius and Covenant where is either hate or found them OK.

Alien is like the Terminator. The first two movies are classics and different in tone yet the movies that came afterwards are a mixed bag, ranging from okay to terrible. In a way, Romulus is similar to Terminator Zero, another big project from a familiar sci-fi IP that came out around the same time. Both are a return the form and bring in new characters and scenarios although TZ is much more subtle in its callbacks than Romulus. Both aren't perfect but are strong attempts to bring each franchise back to its roots after years of sub-par entries. Speaking of Terminator, Fede Álvarez would make an excellent Terminator movie if given the chance.

I liked it for the most part. bringing back the goo & the finale are what dropped it down for me. I will say that it's heads above Prometheus & Covenant though. I also watched it in a 4D screening so I could feel the zero g stuff in my chair, that was pretty cool.

@4:52 without spoiling what Doug is talking about here, I can't say he's entirely right about his statement since we live in a world that already made the 4th film Alien: Resurrection 😏. I doubt he could've forgotten about Resurrection, considering he did a full on review of the movie as the Critic.

Easily one of my favorites of the year. The other day me and my siblings rewatched it, and we spent the first 10 minutes listing all the horrible things WeYu did, and funnily enough it’s some of the most despicable stuff in the movie and it’s not even past the first ten minutes 😂
