Just look at what Davids research drawings depicted that was going on on the planet he poisoned. Plus the engineers home world is still unseen as that was some rome tier city he bombarded and was clearly not the highly advanced engineers. Maybe another experiment like humans, just more primitive.

The prequels are a mixture of genius and idiocy. I'd say it was crawling along awkwardly and painfully like one of David's early under developed creations, not stepping xeno strong as a fully developed entity as it should be by now. The prequels have too many silly moments. Small, cringeworthy moments that classics just do not have. There is not one cringeworthy second in the entire running length of Alien. But Prometheus and Covenant are riddled with them. For me, its quickly becoming a case of "get over the fascination of playing around with this series, and just do the film people want and then leave it alone before you bugger it up completely.". Like all geniuses who have produced artworks of greatness (Ridley, Alien), they often don't know when to stop fucking around with their masterpieces - they don't know when they're done. You almost have to tear it away from them and scream "IT WAS PERFECT DECADES AGO - YOU'VE RUINED IT NOW. STOP FIDDLING WITH IT".

The graphics for the organism analysis and data collection was brilliant, I loved it. David left one more egg as a present for invited explorers, no doubt. Good to see they kept hold of all that amazing artwork that was produced for David's studies. We didn't see enough of it in Covenant, but maybe this was the plan all along. I loved how it tied up the whole idea of Weyland-Yutani's prior knowledge of the Xenomorph, their ruthless curiosity and diabolical conspiracy of sending expendable crew members in blind. The Alien Universe crews weren't stupid they were all deliberately set up and sacrificed. It was chilling the way the AI said Xenomorphic Entity Identified - objective accomplished. This looked a little too polished and well thought out to be "a little fun". I'm hoping the next prequel instalment is moving full steam ahead and they have successfully kept it top-secret. Some of the plot leaks prior to Covenant did affect the viewing experience, particularly knowing about the infections, backbursters and throatbursters before seeing it. If that had been kept a secret I think those scenes would've had far greater impact.

Yes. Altough I'd also argue Waystar was pretty intelligent, obsessed with immortality but not really stupid. Many died because of his actions but i dont think he gave a shit, all of them were calculated losses. His lust for immortality got him killed (which you can argue is pretty stupid) But he was on the verge of dying anyway and his technology and ambition got him face to face with the engineers who potentially had the best shot at immortality.

What these Alien short films show, is that the more you try to explain about the alien's origins, the less scary and less interesting it gets. And when the original director then tries to expand the story of the creature in a direction that was never intended originally, it just becomes a giant mess. Much like Rogue One, the Alien 'Anthology' feels like fan service. But it is but a pale imitation of what came before it. A comparison with the Star Wars prequels is perhaps more fitting, because it did for Darth Vader's origins what Ridley is currently doing for the alien's origins. Quite often it is better not to know the whole story of how an iconic movie villain came to be.

they need to make a sequel to Isolation. Have it connect to the prequels and bring back the Engineers. Example, Amanda and small crew explore Planet 4 years after the events of Covenant. There they explore the dead city and come across David’s Lab and his experiments. A rogue Xenomorph attacks from the shadows. The dead city is the new game environment and has Amanda explore, run, hide from the alien that hunts them from within. She makes startling discoveries along the way (more lore on the Engineers and the city’s inhabitants that once populated the place)..

This short film raises a lot of questions...and not necessarily in a good way. Alien, Aliens and Alien 3 establish that there has been no real contact with Xenomorph XX-121 up until these events. W-Y may have some awareness of their existence, owing to David's transmission after the events of Covenant, yet here we have a man who has somehow ended up on Planet 4/Paradise (alone?) who ends up being implanted? I mean, there are some major issues with continuity between these prequels and the original films, but this isn't clearing anything up. I genuinely don't think David created the actual Xenomorph; he's just copying something that already exists - something that was probably made by the Engineers (as is heavily implied in the Covenant novelisation). Hence why the eggs look different and the alien itself doesn't match up in terms of behaviour and appearance. I'm sorry, but I think Sir Ridley Scott just has some kind of superiority complex when it comes to his films; he dislikes and outright rejects any concepts or ideas that are added by other creators, even if they actually improve the overall franchise. I think the man is a visionary creator, but he needs to let the franchise evolve without trying to null things like the Queen, and the gene-targeting that allows the alien to adopt traits from its host. Sorry, this comment became a rant. I'm a massive fan of the franchise, just not certain recent choices.

I don't know if this has been asked yet, but I noticed the "data collection" part of the film exhibits the eggs' process of being empty until disturbed and *then* creating a facehugger on the spot. Is this correct? Given that all the xenospecies grow very rapidly, I don't see it conflicting with any previous canon, and it gives credence to the often ominous delay there is between a presence discovering the egg and the time it takes for a very aggressive creature to emerge; it never made much sense to me that the facehugger would take so long to wake up, or that it would be drowsy, and so I see it as the egg is a facehugger factory, and begins making it as soon as a viable host comes near.

They should have kept Alien: Covenant as Alien: Paradise Found and instead of making the crew stupid, they should have made them competent. Also, David's weird, creepy, doctor Frankenstein thing was phenomenal. The script should have been ALL about that instead of dumb people who did dumb things. Covenant could have been so much grander. Taken us on a journey into the deranged mind of a synthetic person who has clearly lost it. David is the single most interesting character in the two films and he is so underutilized. I hope that this next one will do something different. Because unlike many people, I think Covenant gets more shit than it deserves. But I will say at times it is utter nonsense and other times, it is terrifying. Not monster BOO terrifying. But the psychotic mind of a mad genius who plans to exterminate any life he can get his hands on and morph its dead body into a bastard offspring that is then used to fuel his ravenous appetite for chaos. A syfi Frankenstein in space. Brilliant. Too bad the script was cluttered and unfocused.
