When any culture starts calling good evil and evil good, Truth is the only rebellion left, says Dr. Everett Piper who served as president of Oklahoma Wesleyan University for 17 years. Dr. Piper joins the podcast to discuss how American colleges have gone from places that teach and challenge students, to facilities that coddle them and leave them fragile and easily offended. He talks about the radical departure from truth our culture has taken, and how Christians can speak up with courage and conviction.

Thank you for this discussion. Yes, check out all levels of Christian education before enrolling your children. Many of our Christian schools in Canada are implementing a Respecting Diversity: sexuality and gender Identity ' policies. Many parents have protested the policies as they have been written, but school boards seem unwilling to even discuss changes to the policies. Some parent committees have had to take legal action to even open the discussion as the school administration was unwilling to cooperate. I fear that is where it will also go in the school I currently work. The comfort is that God know all. He is sovereign.

I'm a school bus driver. Horrible. These kids have NO clue. I drive 3 routes. High school through elementary school. I never knew how bad it could be. I'm in a "good" area too! Drugs, weapons, cursing, vandalism, trashing everything. Disrespectful, lying, stealing, on and on. Even a few jumping out of windows. I kid you not. Some have even assaulted drivers. I could go on and on. What really amazes me is the arrogance and pride of some of them. They are not at all prepared for the real world. In truth, no one prepared for this!!!

As to beginnings; I remember in HS and undergrad in the 70's having the attitude "I pay your salary". I was a child of the late 60's and thought questioning any authority was the the right thing to do. This "you work for me" point of view made the questioning legitimate. Sad that my mainline church did not provide Christ centered teaching on this instead of tacit approval. Great discussion. Thank you both. Will read Radical Son: A Generational Odyssey.

Ughhhggg it's a horrible practice. I know a kid who has a room full of participation ribbons not one of them not win, place or show, ( sorry been watching the triple crown horse racing). Parents out kids in sport just to occupy their time not because they have a gifting in athletics. Kids are just handed things instead of earning them . How is that helpful. (31:48) _The lgbtq narrative is that we are defined subjectively rather than objectively. That we're going to define ourselves by our feelings rather than the facts. That if you feel it, that is who you are. In other words we've made human identity nothing but the sum total of human inclinations, passions, proclivities, ... your libido defines you . Christians of all people should understand that we must be defined by our Lord not our libido. If we are in Christ, we are a new creation-behold the old has gone the new has come. We must be born again. You mustn't be too easily satisfied with being "born that way". The whole message of the Gospel is that when you're baptized you die and you rise again with life in Jesus Christ. So the the old person with its passions, proclivities, inclinations are the antithesis of what it means to be a human being especially within the church_ -Dr. Everett Piper

His position is fundamentally flawed. He claims to be against safe spaces and for free speech in colleges. However, he concludes his argument by telling parents to make sure to send their adult children to colleges that will not challenge their beliefs. This infantilization is exactly what he claims to be against.
@pammichel8314

That's exactly my point. He says college isn't a daycare. Sending your 18-year-old to a college that exists to perpetuate your own specific religious ideology IS coddling them and treating them like children.
@pammichel8314
@pammichel8314 Жыл бұрын
@Melanie no, sending your kids to a college that only teaches the current secular ideologies without discussions of an alternative Biblical worldview is indoctrination. Most colleges now teach a one-sided secular view. Dr. Piper is saying to make sure the Christian college you're looking at has not succumbed to teaching secularized views without ALSO teaching how to discern issues according to scripture. This is not "infantilization." This is teaching them to think from more than one viewpoint.
@cynthialewis3785

Melanie, his position is not flawed. He stands on Biblical truth and is telling parents to check the beliefs of the school they send their children to. In addition, when a student does attend a Christian school, the truth will be taught and it may go against his or her previously held beliefs.

I actually agree with you. We cannot ask other people to do what we are not willing to do ourselves. If we want other people to face the challenge, we need to face our views being challenged, too. However, there is a fundamental difference in that our culture heavily leans towards one side and unless one decides to go full on Armish every Christian is confronted with different worldviews as soon as they take a step out of their door whereas most Non-Christians might live a mostly unconfronted life. As the only professing Christian in my class (in a Catholic School) I was challenged to think about my faith critically throughout all of Middle and High School and I think I read a good deal of Non-Christian as well as straight out Atheistic literature. I don't think Piper doesn't want Christians to get challenged. I think he knows of the challenges Christians face every day and his emphasis is for people to check beforehand whether the University that states that they are "Christian" actually teaches Orthodox Christianity or some fake product. Not everything that says "Christian" actually has Christian in it. ;) But again I agree with you that we should let our views be challenged and hopefully it will help us understand one another better. Have a good one!

I believe that we are called to follow Jesus Christ and He was killed. Yet that was and is a victory. I believe many Christians don’t grasp that whether or not they die, they still win the victory either way. From the world’s point of view, this is a defeat, but from God’s point of view it is a victory. “Revelation 12:11 KJV And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”

True Christians run to the futile fight giggling in joy, because God wins those fights to prove His glory. Don’t ever fear the cult of Man, the woke mob. They have already lost the fight because Christ won on the cross. Start acting like it. When they persecute you have joy because when they do you know you are on the side of Christ, and if you are with Christ, He is with you, and if He is with you who can stand against you?

I don't totally agree that all "safe spaces" are a bad thing. For example, men and women are intrinsically different and I think it's okay to have gender- specific Bible study groups. One caveat - oftentimes these groups are used as a gossip-fest. Typically women complaining about their husbands and children, which I don't think is okay. But this generation of everyone needing an echo chamber or a trigger warning has gotten out of hand entirely.

As a Christian feminist myself, this was moving. Dr. Piper could not be more spot-on. This is exactly what sensible feminists have been saying about this ideology since the early 2010s. My advocacy for women and girls and my faith in Jesus as our Lord and Savior are inextricably intertwined, in the same exact way that abolitionists' love for Black Americans was intertwined with their faith. God commands us to love all and treat everyone with respect, including women, because women are image-bearers of God just as much as men. We have different roles, but that does not mean we are unequal in the eyes of God. If we pretend that we can become another sex, if we participate in the idea that "gender" exists, or if we say that males can become us, we are denigrating God's great design.

Even in the 20th century, this was not an uncommon custom in India where the couple are married off only in this case the man has to pay off the girl's father for the sin committed. No one else will marry her now and the guy is not allowed to escape his responsibility. The girl too had a chance to have her own family if she marries him.

Most translations, all of them except this say he raped her. Women were property and rape was a property crime against the father primarily, not against the daughter. She was stuck marrying him whether she wanted to or not.

@@sanjeevgig8918 standard translation plainly read. I looked over about 10 and only one did not use the word rape. So about 90% of translators got this wrong? Maybe. Apparently God was not concerned with the error because at least 90% of the time he did nothing about it. Cleary the men he ordained to do the work did not care. Either he is less concerned about this error than we are, (yes I would like to know is true regarding this issue) or he was powerless to do anything about it. Either way it results in potentially tens of millions of people being consused and mislead. Negligent, impotent, or absent. Which is it. What does your gut tell you? If the Holy Spirit has lead you into all truth as promised please tell me about it. I do want to know.

This chapter is about persons consecrated to God by a vow to work in the tabernacle and the price to pay when the person wants to end his or her service. The price is set according to a worker's price. A male is expected to do harder labour than a female and so his redeeming price is higher.

Please...more talk about gender. I really haven't heard enough about it. Seriously, I doubt that "safe spaces" are really even a thing. Like your war on christmas. Alisa, keep up the inflammatory conversations to attract eyes and sell merchandise. I'm sorry for you that you can't be a better person.

Could not have said it better. She also has said that it is not always bad to kill innocents. God does not do things because there hey are right. What God does, no matter how violent or outrageous, is right because accordy divine command theory God can do anything and not be wrong. This requires a psychopathic twisting of ones conscience. One thing the bible is right about is that conscisences can be hopelessly seared. I am afraid that is what we are seeing in Alisa Childers.

You have so much judgement and fear which is seperation ! I hope you realise the truth some day! You are creating this for yourself. The ego is the seperation of truth ( Satan). The illusion of truth ( lies).
