The use of an interfacing to keep the knits from unravelling is really smart. Thanks for sharing!!! ❤ My sister decluttered her wardrobe and gave me a chunky sweater in a nice color but the shape was really bad. But it was made from single knit peaces and not cut out from knit fabric, so I unravelled the whole thing and now I am knitting a scarf to give back to my sister. The color suits her way batter than me and I already have enough scarves.

Hello Alisa 😊 was this ever a fun video. Your projects look great. I think it was Patrick Grant from the Great British Sewing Bee that said there is enough clothing on the planet right now to cloth every single person on the planet for the next six generations. That is staggering and to be honest it has been the motivation behind the up-cycles I’ve been doing lately as well. I’m so glad you are giving us tools for up cycling Awesome 🌟🌟

Thank you so much, dear Christine! Isn't that right? We have more clothing than we would ever need and the same can go about fabric. I am currently dealing with my fabric stash and it is almost at the very minimal stage and I am so happy! Yes....I feel the same way about upcycling and reworking my early makes! Nicely done! You know, another nice thing about upcycling versus sewing from scratch is that it can be very hard to find good, solid sweater knits (why are home knits usually so thin or made from awful choices for warmth?) Also, sizing knits can be tricky so I think sometimes it really can be better to find something that fits well in colors you like and then change it up (cashmere sweaters are the worst for the awkward chokey necklines, but so soft and really, most of us can't afford cashmere brand new anyhow).
@ThoughtfulCreativity Жыл бұрын
You are so right!!! Yes, finding a normal thick sweater knit in the fabric shop can be a challenge and also.... you know those beautiful knit cuffs and necklines - you can't get them by sewing, so it is nice when it is all done already and all you have to do is just to fix a couple of things. You're s right! Love it! Merry Christmas dear Esther, thank you for being here and for sharing your ideas! Wishing you and your family the very best this Holiday Season!

@ThoughtfulCreativity Жыл бұрын
You just use the instructions of the interfacing that you are using (usually found in the package or on the bolt) apply it with heat and also keep in mind if your sweater fibers can take the heat necessary to fuse the interfacing and that's it :)

@@sternits be sure and use a cover fabric, (pressing cloth) so iron doesn't touch the sweater. Some interfacing will have you use a damp pressing cloth over the interfacing when you apply it. This wasn't meant to imply you didn't know this info already but meant as help or reminder, happy new year.

I noticed that when you were cutting the polka dot material for the set for your daughter that you seemed to center it in the material available, leaving two small scraps, when it seemed like there was plenty of room to move it down and have one larger scrap. Was that an optical illusion? Or maybe you just didn’t care about saving these scraps? Or another reason?
@ThoughtfulCreativity Жыл бұрын
The patterns were just on top of the fabric, half of the front and half of the back, the set featured full front and full back without seams, so it wasn't cut as you are referencing, it was just a clip of me putting patterns on top of the fabric :)
@ThoughtfulCreativity Жыл бұрын
In the case of cutting the shorts - they are not pushed all the way down due to the fabric being stretched out from the wear of the sweater, otherwise I would get a lettuce hem :)

In my case the elastic is twice as short as the area (length) that you're gathering. You can also take a piece of scrap fabric and practice which will help you determine these proportions.
