last i checked, it had a 93 from audiences. even if you did check RT, i think a lot of people would be interested, and rightfully so. I loved the movie. as a filmmaker and film student, i think it might be one of the worst scripts I've ever seen realized. but i think the direction, the action, the visuals, and just the BALLS it took to make a movie this unique easily compensate for the sucky script. its beautiful, it's fun, and it has heart. that's enough for me (and 93% of audiences)
@unipachu5 жыл бұрын
The main character saves an innocent puppy in the beginning of the movie. The movie ends in a cliffhanger and sets up a sequel. There's things like these in the movie that some audiences might like but for some people (like me) they make the movie predictable, cheesy and unmemorable. It's all subjective, just know that it has top tier cgi effects, detailed dystopian world, hard hitting action and a likable main character but pretty unremarkable story if you've seen other sci-fi action adventure movies like Ghost in the Shell or Man of Steel. If you want modern sci fi movies that are not so heavy on cgi creatures and have more original stories go watch movies like Looper or Inception.
@spitperson695 жыл бұрын
@@unipachu I've seen Looper and Inception. and Man of Steel and the rest of the movies you mentioned. My favorite movie of all time is Blade Runner and a close runner up is Akira. It seems that you'd like to pin the people who like this movie as uncultured or unaware of great arthouse and cerebral sci-fi, but i just don't think that's true. granted, I haven't read the original manga, but nothing about this movie says to me that they were TRYING to make a movie like that. I mean it's written and produced by the guy who made Avatar and Titanic. escapism has been a huge part of the culture of cinema since it's inception, and this film might not bring a unique story or voice or theme, but it creates a near-magical world full of loveable characters and unique events for people to escape into. to me, that's the point of the movie, and i think it did a great job.

For me the standout feature of this movie was Rosa Salazar's performance, which was utterly captivating! Considering that she was also delivering it as a MoCap novice, with all the paraphernalia and indignities that entails, and THROUGH Weta's layer of witchcraft, it is astonishing. Every single scene she's in I'm drawn into her slightest nuances of facial, vocal, and bodily expression. Mesmerized is the only word that suffices for me. She got under the skin of this character like I've never seen before. The comparison of the breadth and depth of humanity she brings to her acting performance puts to shame the utterly woeful efforts of a certain contemporary Marvelous Captain that I shouldn't mention because, well, look at my profile pic, what could I possibly know! It's a crying shame that her performance has not been recognized by the critics, those supposedly most qualified, and certainly most relied upon to notice. And for what? Some stupid studio pissing contest and ideological agendas. It's disgusting. Beyond Salazar, I really liked the narrative change from the Manga in the relationship between Alita and Ido. For me, the manga version of Ido is a very shallow, borderline creepy, and soooo very, I dunno, "Anime-esqe" in it's clunky/immature expression. This new Ido story and representation is so much more more engaging! Also, Christof Waltz's performance was superb.

It should go without saying that Rotten Tomatoes often has a large difference between critic scores and fans scores. The reason is usually quite be obvious. Critics are just everyday people, some will like it, some won’t. Fans of movies like this, however, will usually go into it knowing the source material and already with an affinity for the film. Of course their reviews will be more positive than the average person on the street. On the other hand, if the film makers try to do something very different, like put female leads in the film, those fans who are already invested in the franchise might find that to have a greater impact on their viewing experience than critics who watch 100s of movies a year and are not invested in any film or franchise. It never ceases to surprise me when I see people noting the difference between critic and audience scores on rotten tomatoes like it isn’t the least surprising thing ever.

Lain nothings original tbh, since every film or show made in the last 50 or so years has taken inspiration from something, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be enjoyable. I for one loved Your Name and I’m curious how they’ll take it into live-action territory since it will be difficult to capture that feel like in the anime with the music, animation, etc. I’m expecting a lot of change; I don’t expect the same type of music or much (if any) Japanese culture involved (which sucks because a lot of Your Name revolves around that culture.) I don’t expect it to recapture what the anime did, I just want a decent film. What were gonna get is a westernized version; this is confirmed since Japan asked for one, so don’t expect much of this adaptation to be the same, but still go in with an open mind.

Yeah, the Ghost in the Shell movie was a big disappointment. I did luckily suspect that it would be bad so I didn't watch it at the cinema but many months later for free. It was not Ghost in the Shell it was just a mediocre sci-fi movie that they gave the same name. Alita was on the other hand was a really good adaptation that actually follow the story in the manga pretty close.
@mohamedkhan54305 жыл бұрын
Ghost in the shell was better as a cohesive story and the villian was better. But alita you can watch as a pure popcorn flick and also analyze it if you wish... i think thats where i would rate alita over ghost in the shell live action. If ghost in the shell had an all out action scene for atleast 20 minutes at the end- ghost in the shell would have a really awesome fucking movie. Reason why i say this is that you are having these little beautiful action scenes and these awesome dialogue and beautiful characters and at the end, a movie of this calibur need a show down, the audience expects a showdown and i think thats what the movie needed to set it apart and gain the audience.

I watched it yesterday, and I spent a good part of the movie in total awe, and giggling about everything. I can see many of the flaws people talk about, but they did not harm the experience for me. The good parts significantly outweight the bad. When this movie finished I just wanted more. I wanted it to keep going, or to show as the sequel immediately. The energy of the movie is fantastic, and that's on one hand Rodrigez's merit (he is always quite good at that), but also Rosa Salazar's merit. She is super fantastic, and her enthusiasm and sincerity can sell even the cheesiest scenes. I'm not super into anime or manga. Never read Alita, and had only seen a couple of anime shows in my life, but this 100% felt like those. It's the second time I feel this at a movie theater, previous time was Speed Racer (also a weird, flawed, fantastic movie).

Alitta is a great film yes it has its flaws, but as we all know no film is perfect the cinematography was immense especially in Imax 3D, the fight scenes in this film especially the motor ball sequences is such a joy to watch. are probably some of the best action we are going to see all year round. it is up there with any other blockbuster your likely to see this year, there is a heartbreaking scene near the end of the film that really hits home Rosa Salzar killed it as Alitta, the cast, and crew done a great job. the film hints at a possible sequel, people should definitely go out and support this film because if they make enough money to make a sequel that film will be off the same pedigree of the dark knight or infinity war, so go and support this film 8.5/10

For me, I had zero knowledge of anything to do with Alita before I saw the movie. For the record, I've never seen anime in my life. If I could say one negative thing about the Alita movie its that it is not really a full movie. In reality, it is just an introduction to the NEXT movie in the series. So it was a tad disappointing for me that the movie didn't have a solid ending. Movies are better when they have a beginning, a middle, and an end. And then that's it, no more story to come. Anyways, for a guy who knew nothing about the Alita story, I consider the movie to be worth watching, although the ending only sets you up for a sequel that may come in a year or two.

Let me be clear, not only is this an ambitious film, it executes on the ambition. I would IMPLORE your audience to go and buy an IMAX 3D ticket. You won't be disappointed in this film. I can't wait for the sequel.

I'm astounded you can't see why it's getting mixed reviews. It was pretty damn flawed.

Integrity among film critics died when Roger Ebert passed away. You may not agree with all of his opinions, but he always explained his points properly. Movie critics these days just write whatever they are paid to write. They will bring up good or bad points about a movie but never really explain why they felt that way.

The fights - OH MY - so incredibly good and really stuck close to the Manga - and I was so amazed they didn't change the daring stuff...

Correction: The Detective Pikachu movie is based on a video game, not the anime. I do think the movie will have references and Easter eggs from the Pokemon anime, but it’s based mainly on the Detective Pikachu game.

Jay Khan um, should somebody tell you or should I? It’s all good here man, no need to start a feud. If you were a true Pokemon fan, you’d know that the original Pokemon games, Red and Blue came out in 1996, two years prior to the premiere of the anime. Case in point, Pikachu was still a wild Pokemon you could catch early game in the Viridian Forest in Red and Blue. Every true Pokemon fan should know this. The Pokemon Red and Blue games started the franchise, not the anime.

@@mohamedkhan5430 Mate the game came first. The first episode of the anime literally starts with a homage to the original Gameboy games

Anime fan with well groomed facial hair, decent physical physique... Ok great. Move that is "Anime" and not "Sold to the general public" Ok fantastic.
