@@eevee8826 I agreed with his points but not with his ranking. I’d have put Ikaris and Kingo higher than the top three, but Sersi really wasn’t that good, I’d put her 6 or 7. I love the actress, but she was one of the least exciting ones. However having a flashy personality isn’t everything, and I thought the character worked well enough as a lead. And the whole point was that she was an unlikely leader I suppose.

Now replace druig with literally anyone else. Yea it's still the same thing. What I liked about it was at least ONE of those eternals was ready to ride for a homie. Everyone else is just standing around like tweedle dum dums when your boy gets Lasiked and she's over there like nah player I hope you got a verse ready cause I'm about to hand you these beats. It was for that reason alone I couldn't be mad at her for not having an actual weapon of some kind like a sword. You know like something that would make her speed power real useful in a fight.

My favourite was Makkari. This movie has my favourite depiction of a speedster using their power. Her repeatedly slamming into Ikaris at super speed was so satisfying to see

I just thought this was done better in ZSJL. You get both the speedster fast stuff and slomo stuff and a full character arc. Makkari was just always on board and didn’t show up till 2/3s through the movie with no established mindset

Same here man, I've always been a fan of Barry Keoghan, so I was kinda excited but I didn't know how Marvel would nail Druig as a character but hey.... he instead became one of the few bright things about the film. Him and Makkari are both my favs

My favorites were Gilgamesh and Druig. I liked how Druig didn’t want to use his powers maliciously, he was only trying to stop the humans from killing each other. I think the temple scene was my favorite of the movie, it really shows his perspective and it was surprisingly emotional. I like Gil for the same reasons as you

Makkari was 100% my favorite. The way chloe used her deafness as a way to make moments more emotional, like at the end when they defeated the Celestial. Instead of a emotional talk, they used sign language. It made the moment silent while still delivering the lines from the character. It was one of the most emotional parts of the movie.

yup, so mad they killed Ikaris. I think he's one of Marvel's best "villains". He gave up thousands of years with Cersi and connecting with humans because he knew they were all doomed. Then he gets told he didn't need to do any of that and that his entire purpose is wrong. It's so compelling and the actor did a great job conveying these emotions. The suicide felt pretty random. I think he couldve shown his remorse by simply leaving the planet and trying to find a new purpose. Too bad in the climax ppl didn't like him not killing Cersi. Think that the problem is her character is so hard to connect with we dont really get why Ikaris loves her so much.

This would've been so perfect as a Disney+ plus show! Maybe 10 Episodes so every character gets a episode dedicated to them like on Lost with flashbacks and everything. It would've been less visually appealing with a lower TV budget but the characters would've been developed a lot more and it would've been way better overall.

Although I have no complaints about sprite being in last, I would say that yes they don’t specifically explain why they designed her as a child but when creating the externals, the celestial made each one differently as they connect with different cultures e.t.c. And sprite then can ‘blend in’ with younger people

It seems like he decided in his head that he didn't like it at some point and now every point he makes he has to make it in a way that supports his dislike of the movie.

For me, I saw Ikaris as not an evil Superman but rather, Omniman. Spoilers for Invincible Both deep down love their family, but let their duty to their bosses overshadow them, and end up killing/nearly killing the peoples they love. When they realize what they done, they left the planet with Omniman somewhere unknown and Ikaris killing himself

@@thetypingavocado574 yeah, Ikaris is less of a jerk and only did this because in his view If they stopped the Celestial being born, then billions of new life are gone and the rest of the Eternals are gonna get into huge trouble with their bosses (cue post credit) But if they let it happen, then Ikaris would lose his family and then billions of human lives would be gone In his eyes, humanity had lived long enough and the Eternals will return as new beings so it seem the latter was the easier choice but something he isn’t proud of

10. Ikaris: probably my biggest flaw in the movie is I didn't buy his complete heel turn, and I didn't find him all that compelling even before that. His only great moment is his suicide by flying into the sun, which is admittedly a boss move. 9. Ajak: I was shocked that they killed her off as early as they did, though obviously we saw more of her later thanks to the time jumping. As a character, I found her to be kind of a one note motherly leader. 8. Sprite: her heel turn was possibly even tougher to stomach than Ikaris', probably because I found her far more likeable up to that point, which is also why she's higher on the list. 7. Kingo: likeable but there's not a lot to him. I also find it hilarious that he doesn't show up for the climax. From here on, I really like all these characters: 6. Gilgamesh: his caring for Thena was compelling but there wasn't that much else to him. His death was definitely emotional though. 5. Makkari: insanely likeable. Could jump 2 or 3 spots if she just had one or two more scenes, preferably one establishing her romantic relationship with Druig, which was by far my favourite ship in the movie. 4. Sersi: a worthy new leader for the Eternals and lead character for this movie. Could sometimes fall too hard on the stoic side (especially when sharing the screen with Ikaris), but I find her far more accessible. 3. Thena: second best portrayal of superhero dementia in film following Logan, but still a great portrayal. Perfect supporting role from Angelina Jolie. Likeable and compelling through and through. 2. Phastos: didn't really think very much of him until his reintroduction in modern time, but when that happens he becomes probably the most vibrant and understandable character in the movie, all of which grounded by his relationship to his husband and child. 1. Druig: the scene at Tenochtitlan is the best of this movie and the one that made me realize I'm really starting to like it, and that's all on Druig's shoulders. His beliefs and motivations are perfectly clear, and that serves the ideological divide in the second half of the movie very well. I'm already a fan of Barry Keoghan following The Killing of a Sacred Deer, and this performance just made me an even bigger fan of him.

Druig is my favorite. In particular I like that even though he says he can’t bring himself to strip the entire world of free will by controlling every single aspect of humanity, he’s still not above isolating himself with a smaller group of people that he more or less lets live freely but never completely outside of his control (as it’s shown that he does not control them constantly, only when he needs/wants to and presumably when they fight among themselves). And the movie actually acknowledges that this is wrong and hypocritical with that “you’re better than this” line, unlike a certain Disney+ show that has a similar plot point. I don’t think he necessarily loves humanity, he’s just naturally an empathetic pacifist with some extremist methods because his power is easy to abuse. Just an all around interesting guy and I hope he becomes a solid recurring antihero going forward. Also I just love characters that like to cause problems on purpose. Other faves: Ikaris, Thena, and Ajak.

10. Sprite - Interesting themes but handled poorly; definitely a better character in the comics. 9. Ajak - A loving character and a super important figure in the movie despite being [SPOILER] all along; we haven't seen much of her though, so I can't rate her higher. 8. Phastos - Funny and cool, he had some great scenes (his clash against Ikaris was awesome), but his story arc was too quickened and I would have wanted to see how he went from giving up on humankind to actually get a family. 7. Sersi - Before watching the movie, I would have liked to rate her higher, but she was pretty disappointing; her character was flat and had not an outstanding personality, also a lot of interesting traits about her comics counterpart got lost and that's a shame; probably I'm rating her higher than Phastos just because she had more screentime. 6. Gilgamesh - Too sweet; his relationship with Thena warmth my heart and has cool powers. 5. Kingo - Great comic relief, but still powerful; his decision in the end made me apreciate him even more: It looks like he is just running away but he shows that the other Eternals' plan Is not objectively right but still doesn't want ti fight them; I could relate to his position. 4. Ikaris - He seems flat and with zero personality but actually he's a complex character and very interesting to analize; his main trait is loyalty, but not to his comrades but to his superior (Arishem); also loved his final scene in the movie; didn't like his romance with Sersi: what did they love about each other and why this love was so strong? I guess we'll never know for sure. 3. Thena - Badass and awkward, I liked her; she has a broken mind and that shows in some scenes where she acts like she's a scared child; also, did I mention I love her relationship with Gilgamesh? 2. Makkari - Ok I wasn't sure about this, but Makkari deserves to be higher than Thena and Ikaris in my opinion: she had possibly the less amount of screentime (not counting Ajak), but still made a great impression; she's fierce, sweet and her powers are amazing (her against Ikaris was a brief yet astonishing fight). 1. Druig - No doubt Druig deserves this spot! He looks like he is a jerk but he's actually the most sensitive of the group: he can't stand all the pain and the suffering and that's what caused him to loose faith in both Arishem and humanity (in fact in the flashbacks we see him using his powers only twice, and both times It was to cease a fight). I absolutely loved him and hope to see more of him soon.

I thought the film was great and felt very different from the other MCU titles in a refreshing way 10. Sprite 9. Thena 8. Ajak 7. Gilgamesh 6. Kingo 5. Makkari 4. Phastos 3. Druig 2. Sersei 1. Ikaris I hope we see Ikaris in future MCU projects, I feel killing him off would be a mistake as he was by far the most interesting character in the film

It really just sounds like you didn’t like the idea of the characters debating whether humanity was worth saving. Based off of how awful the world has been in the last few years, I honesty thing it’s an interesting and compelling point!

I personally disagree with the statement that this should've been a series. I really enjoyed how it turned out just maybe it could've been a bit longer but then it would've been too long for general audiences. The reason why I don't think it would work as a series is because in order to keep the show dynamic it would have to cut between characters often just like it does in film. But with 45 minute episodes you don't get enough of each character to feel like each episode properly advanced the story or even felt like a true episode. It wouldn't work with this many characters. And doing an episode per character is the most uninteresting thing ever. At that point you're not watching a single overall story but rather mini solo films that lead up to an avengers film (the last episode(s)). And I don't find that engaging at all as a show.

agree. ive seen a lot of ppl saying this should be a series and i also disagree. I think the film couldve maybe used one less Eternal, and written Cersi better, and re-written some of their character motivations but i think it does a lot right and i enjoyed the pace of the film. Main things I'd change is Phastos refusing to fight at first, because that made ZERO sense, Kingo shouldve sided with someone... anyone... leaving third act was so weird. And basically, give Cersi an actual character arc. i think it's fine her personality isn't so extroverted. Actually pretty nice change for a marvel movie, but as mentioned in this review, she has no character arc. Shes a good person who does good things, and thats about it.... Still i enjoyed this movie a lot. All the marvel movies have their flaws and i dont think Eternals were espescially damaging.

Druig was my favorite character in the movie BY FAR. I don’t really have any good narrative reason for this, I just absolutely loved to watch him on screen. I thought he was badass, charismatic, serious, I loved all his lines, I don’t know I just was wildly entertained by him. This movie is so weird, I agree with a lot of the negative things that people say about this movie, like I can’t argue it, but it just worked for me regardless. I really liked the movie, I don’t know what to say, I just wasn’t bothered by all the negatives that much

I normally agree with you on the majority of your reviews and or criticisms of movies, but I disagree with your opinion of this movie. I actually thought that Chloe Zhao made a beautiful, well thought out, and intriguing story. In these videos your talking about how the character arcs seem incomplete, but I think it was purposely done that way. The MCU has made its name by building character arcs over multiple movies, and there obviously trying to do this with the eternals. We don’t know everything about these characters motivations, decisions, etc. because there is more story to tell. Everyone should wait until marvel is finished telling the story of the Eternals, then you can judge weather there character arcs are complete or not.

Okay, up until now I've been saying Eternals is like a solid 7.5/10 for me but you have very much altered my opinion Sean. I find myself just as frustrated as you thinking about how good some of these ideas truly were and how they were just thrown away because it's all stuffed into 1 movie. If this was a TV show, it had the potential to be one of the best and most unique superhero stories ever put to screen and that makes me really mad at the movie. I still had fun with it though, and I would love to see more of these characters to see more of their personality. But the movie Eternals itself, 5/10. Goddamnit

Yes, Gilgamesh is my favourite too because he's the most kind and seems to have the best moral compass of the group, so I was ticked when they killed him. I don't really have a full ranking and generally either liked or found them all okay as characters (though I don't really get the love for Makkari, she was fine but not outstanding), except Sprite who annoyed me the majority of the film.

Here's my ranking: 1) Kingo - Such a personality and the cameraman made it even better. Did kind of suck that he wasn't around in the third act but somehow while watching I completely forgot he'd gone and I didn't register he was gone until I watched your reviews somehow. 2) Gilgamesh - He genuinely cares about the team (especially Thena) and you can see this in his strength 3) Druig - His motivation for rebelling against the group makes sense, especially given what his powers are. 4) Makkari - A truly decently ordinary side character with a cute relationship with Druig. There was a little bit of the Flash when she did the tornado thing but her speed against Ikaris was so cool to see. 5) Ajak - Can't believe nobody else seems to like her. She was the motherly character of the group who cared about everyone so I found her likeable in the flashbacks. 6) Thena - Definitely quite a powerful warrior, though she did spend half the movie in a trance and sometimes threatening to attack the others. 7) Phastos - Some of the ways he used his powers in the third act was probably the most interesting thing among all of the Eternals' powers in my opinion. But his motivation was unclear when he was introduced, yes. 8) Ikaris - Bootleg Superman. It makes sense that he'd stay faithful to the mission and end up against the others. 9) Sersi - Hard to get a read on her overall. 10) Sprite - Whiny and a backstabber.

My favorite is Druig. Although I personally think that there's is no particular Eternal that shines above the rest, hence it feels like the ones that are more interesting, are the ones that appeared the least and the ones that appeared more are the ones that are annoying/boring, Druig is the one that I personally find the most interesting and the most compelling out of all of them. Phastos, Thena, and Makkari were also pretty awesome to watch and learn their story. The ones that I hated the most were Kingo and Sprite. Sprite, well, the overall consensus is there: She's narcissistic and annoying, and yet, she earns what she wanted all along, even if she didn't deserve it. And Kingo is a coward and most of his jokes were pure cringe. The funniest character was Phastos from millions of miles away, with Druig and Gilgamesh making me laugh aswell.

My favourite is Makkari. She has very little screen time, she never speaks but she radiates in every scene she’s in. She’s so expressive her sign language and her use of the speed power is the best I’ve seen in a superhero movie. Hope to see more of her in the future

My list (Favorite to least favorite) 1: Druig - I loved his powers and his thoughts and views on the world and humanity. Yes he comes off aggressive but like he said having the ability to stop wars and bad violent acts and not able to stop it cause your told not to. It takes a toll on someone especially since he is immortal. So yes I understand why he is aggressive and angsty. To me that fits his character well. I couldn’t picture him being a happy all the time type of character. Now unless he’s with Makkari because let’s be honest that’s the only time he is smiling. 2. Makkari- I love her though we don’t see that much of her. She was a great character. Plus I loved her and Druig’s chemistry. Her and Druig they were so cute. Honestly had way more chemistry than the main ship. 3. Gilgamesh- I love how he was so protective and patient with Thena. He was her protector when she started losing her mind. 4. Thena- I love her powers. She was such a strong character even when she started losing her mind. Her and Gil had such great chemistry as well. 5. Kingo- I loved his humor. Which I think it was a great addition I like when movies like this has someone who is the comic relief. 6- Phasto- His powers were cool. I love how he said he exist for his family. Even though he gave up on humans. He still was able to find love and happiness. 7. Ajax- We didn’t see much but I like her. But that’s all I can really say about her. 8. Sersi- I loved her powers but I agree she didn’t really have a personality. She was kinda just there. 9. Ikaris- The laser eyes were cool. He kinda reminded me of Superman. But he’s 9th for a reason he turned on them. 10. Sprite- You know what she gets 1 point for her name. But other than that I found her annoying especially towards the end. I don’t hate her…just don’t love her either.

1. Ikaris was a great false lead and twist antagonist, was invested enough that I never saw the twist coming until I realized what he and Ajak were about to talk about! 2. Thena felt like she played against her type and it worked out for me! Her revenge for Gilgamesh was satisfying but as I explain for his ranking, I think that they could've done much better for the Deviants. 3. Makkari was a solid supporting Eternal speedster and love how she wails at Ikaris when she finds out about Druig. I just wasn't fully attached to her as much as the others due to her lack of screen time. Also her being mute for me wasn't explained in the film, and if it was was done poorly. I like that she was, but in the film's context currently made no sense like Druig and Sprite. 4. Phastos made an impact for me. His emotional arc made sense to me, but it's still jarring to see his drastic shift in views so quickly due to how little we've had of him up till then. 5. Druig was great to watch as the acting for him was spot on alongside his chemistry with Makkari. Loved seeing him float and jump in the fights! However his powers are conflicting in terms of why Arishem would send a mind controller to a planet with the job of not using his powers. That brought him down for me. 6. Gilgamesh was compelling enough that I felt it seeing him get killed off was harsh. Just wished we had a bit more time with him, as well as wished that what happened to him after in terms of the Deviants had a bit more satisfying ending than just plain revenge as it felt like the Eternals could've teamed with the Deviants to better stop Ikaris and Sprite and them use Kro's powers to join the Uni-mind in some fashion as he holds the powers of TWO ETERNALS! 7. Kingo was such a fun Eternal to have in the family dynamic, especially with Karun, Ikaris, and Sprite, making her character better thanks to him! I just have him this low due to him dipping out of the third act for a poorly explained reason, especially when the actor seemed to work out for the film only to not show up at all in the big ending. 8. Sersi is conflicting cuz while I don’t feel as much for her, I understood why Ajak chose her as the substitute lead in her absence, bought into the romances and journey. Her powers like others needed better explanations in the film as to why they are the way they are. 9. Ajak is near last just because of how they chose to build their story out with the murder mystery and back and forth timeline placement as it takes the longest to fully invest in her. Also her powers are mostly water by the end of the Deviants. 10. Sprite made sense as a character in the film but I wasn't as invested in her, probably by design. But even more so her being by Arishem's design doesn't make much sense as to why a Celestial who creates Eternals to carry out a specific mission would create such an emotional being with such a gaping flaw that would feed into her emotional insecurity that Arishem intentionally creates for her. Her existence feels less justified for the MCU and more justified for the themes of the film and an emotional arc that doesn't hold as much water to it. And being rewarded for her stabbing Sersi felt lazy to me.

If I had the other characters as well, I’d have Karun above Kingo just cuz he was funny and had a better reason to leave than Kingo did, Dane would be above Sprite since I can tolerate him more than Sprite and since he should’ve had more time with Sersi at the start, and Arishem at the bottom since while it was imposing and beautiful to look at its motivations and the Eternals it designed made little sense to me as I thought about it more.
