I read a lot of articles of how Alex Cora was helping the Red Sox be more aggressive at the plate this season. Sean Manaea was the first pitcher to take advantage of that approach. He kept the ball down, got ahead in the count and struck out 9 of 10 players swinging the bat. Great job. Boston, sometimes you need to curb that aggressiveness.

Ill never forget this game. My best friend had just committed suicide a few months prior and the a's game was one of the last great memories i had of us. I couldnt even go to a game that year until i got dragged to this one. I just remember talking to him in my head before the game started saying "if you're still listening, if you're still here somehow, you'll make something extra ordinary happen at this game. Show me something that would only make me think that you're listening" Sure enough i witnessed the 1st no hitter in person. I don't think i even sat down after the 6th inning.

This is only the 12th time that a team that won the World Series on the losing end of a no-hitter the year they won it. The other 11 occurrences will be listed below: 1917 St Louis Browns over Chicago White Sox (twice) (ON BACK TO BACK DAYS) 1940 Brooklyn Dodgers over Cincinnati Reds 1952 Detroit Tigers over New York Yankees 1958 Baltimore Orioles over New York Yankees 1959 Pittsburgh Pirates over New York Mets 1971 St. Louis Cardinals over Pittsburgh Pirates 1973 Texas Rangers over Oakland A’s 1974 Cleavland Indians over Oakland A’s 1981 Houston Astros over Los Angeles Dodgers 1988 Cincinnati Reds over Los Angeles Dodgers(ALSO A PERFECT GAME)

Boy, that was a very shaky no-hitter. Marcus Semien dropping that popup could very easily have been scored a hit. Trying to make a backwards catch like that isn’t a routine play, so to call it an error is pretty generous. If that game was in Boston, it would definitely be scored as a hit. But don’t get me wrong, that play could have been called either way (depends on the umpire) and Manaea dominated that game anyway. Congrats to him!

J. B. Hogan the Benintendi call was correct. That second line is there to mark the baseline, and once you cross it you’re out. The error call was the only iffy ruling, but the home team usually gets the benefit of the doubt. Semien did get quite a bit of glove on it though so I can understand where the error argument comes from. It’s a hit if this was played in Boston.
@southpaw6026 жыл бұрын
Tanner_10 it wasnt a routine play either. That couldve easily been called a hit.
@tbb2366 жыл бұрын
walter yanez it wasn’t, but because it was in Oakland, the scorer will likely be in their favor
@JBHogan6 жыл бұрын
Tanner_10 - I appreciate your perspective on this. Home or away, though, in my opinion, that play in center should have been called a hit if nothing else for the difficulty of the attempted catch itself. I checked the rule on the Benintendi play and still think that was a really questionable call. I fully see your points though. I'm happy for the guy's no-hitter but it was the shakiest one I've seen in a while.

If we are gonna be honest with ourselves the Red Sox had two hits against him. An error is only when a routine play is botched allowing a runner to reach and well that was not a routine play for any shortstop. And then Benny was avoiding the tag there is no rule stating you have to let the opposing team tag you, you can try to avoid it within a reasonable distance of the running lane which he did so due to a bad call umpiring and a gracious score keeper he tossed a no-no.
@jguavalaker126 жыл бұрын
Quit making excuses because your team didn't win, if it was sale you wouldn't be saying single thing
@knubbelidoo6 жыл бұрын
"Within reasonable distance of the running line" is determined by the extra line that's added for the last 30 feet or whatever it is to first. The one at the edge of the infield dirt. He clearly went out of that area to avoid the tag, and by rule he's out. That's what this extra line is for. It's the sole purpose of this line. So that's how they call it. Sure, the Semien popup could've gone either way, but that call is clear as day and 100% according to the rule book. Also, you're pretty lame and pathetic if you spend your day trying to discredit a guy's no-hitter, as some people around here have been doing quite extensively...
