I think Thomas Jane's punisher was the best. His voice and look fit the character and Howard saint was an amazing villain and Thomas as the punisher and john as saint fit perfect together

Thomas Jane and Jon Berthal played two very different Punishers. I prefer Jane's but that's because he nailed the role to a T in Dirty Laundry and the 2005 video game. He literally was the Punisher in both those.

sn41175 You will be happy to hear that warzone wins in highest killcount. Over 100 something kills more kills than mins of film. 2nd place the 80s with 90 something kills. The tv show got only 60 something kills and has 13 hrs of screentime. It seems like the 80s one and warzone are more like sequels where he is now the punisher no longer getting revenge. Where the thomas jane one and the netlfix punisher are more of a origin story with frank getting revenge on the people for killing his family.

Interesting choice for number one--but it makes sense. I have seen the last two movies and the Netflix show and I'd say that Bernthal is the most interesting to watch. The 2004 Punisher is pretty good and if we didn't have the Netflix show, he would be the only one remembered as the Punisher.

Jon Bernthal Punisher is too angry and loud for me, he acts like your generic dark and edgy tough guy. Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson were calm, cold, collective, and precise...they were also grounded but still intimidating enough to make you say "That's The Punisher alright." My favorite is definitely Thomas because well first off he LOOKS LIKE The Punisher to me, and he may not have the height but man he had the freaking voice...that voice plays in my head when I go back and read the older comic material. Not to mention that script was so freaking good, very underrated and the changing of the origins was interesting.

Still haven't seen Punisher: War Zone, got a soft spot for Punisher 89', remember renting it on video back in the day and still own a VHS copy I recorded off the Showtime cable network in 1991, Thomas Jane Punisher I upon first viewing hated it, but strangely have warmed up to its quirky odd tone over the years, and Netflix Punisher I still haven't seen yet.

I like Jane's best as well! I guess it really sort of depends on which Punisher your expecting to see, cuz after all there are multiple versions of him in comic book form released over the years. For one version of the Punisher, Bernthal's portrayal is too out of control and over the top where as for another, Jane's is too ice-cold and seemingly emotionless. I do have to say personally, i find Bernthal's grawls and shit ridiculously obnoxious though - which is another reason why i like Jane's portrayal better!

AFAIK Bernthal said in an interview that his Frank Castle isn't the full-fledged Punisher yet. Taking that into account, I believe Jane indeed has the upper hand compared to the other three. Lundgren and Stevenson were post-revenge Punishers, Bernthal didn't quite get past his revenge yet, but Jane portrayed Frank Castle in all main situations for the character: before, during and after his revenge plot (Dirty Laundry and the game). That makes me agree with you in terms of considering Jane to be the best live-action Punisher up to this day. Bernthal's Castle is almost tied up with him, though. This is a tricky one when you have three actors from Punisher movies and one actor from a tv show. The tv show of course gives us hours of Frank Castle, allowing the actor to grow into the role and give us many sides to the character and so, in our minds, maybe being the best Frank Castle there is. However I would agree with Sean that Thomas Jane was the best so far. That said I've never seen War Zone But Dolph's film was just terrible, even for the 80's, lol. Jane's Punisher felt right to me. It felt like a good combo of comic and real life and I think Jane did a great job bringing Castle to the screen in a way that was faithful to the comic character. Jon Bernthal is an amazing actor and I loved him in Daredevil as Punisher. However this first season has diluted what he did in Daredevil for me. In that series we got the real Punisher, we got balls to the wall killing from him, and yeah, we got his backstory to. But the new series of The Punisher has retread the origin story again and seems to be pushing a lot of monologue, soul searching, family angst for Micro and precious little action and for a Punisher show we should be getting more action. What there is is incredible though and I too am hoping season 2 will be less talk and more of what the Punisher should be, taking out the trash!

Yeah thee's a bunch of people in here strongly disagreeing with me, but season 1 really didn't give us Punisher going full Punisher. I mean the entire setup was that he stopped being the "Punisher" because he'd gotten his revenger. Which really made him the "Revenger."

I loved what they did for Vet's coming home and how it affected them. That was incredible to watch and felt like they showed the proper respect for that subject. But again, I felt they went a little OTT with it. They introduced characters from that group meeting who felt out of place, that we didn't really need to know or understand and yet they spent a lot of time on them. Maybe it's a pay off later? I'm only on episode 7 right now. But his corpsman friend feels like a male version of Claire Temple from the other Marvel TV shows, only there as a shoulder to cry on and to fix him up. His best friend from his days in the Marines even though pushed him as a good guy, you just knew that there was going to be a twist in the tale and I found myself waiting for it. But, Bernthal, I feel, when let off the reins will be an amazing Punisher. As I said in Daredevil he was a cold, uncaring killing machine for the most part and that's the Punisher from the comics, the one I want to see.

I've only seen Jon Bernthal and Thomas Jane, but all I remember from the Thomas Jane version is the fight with the wrestler to Italian (I think?) opera, which was amazing, and the moment where Frank sticks a knife under a guy's chin, and his mouth is open and you can see the knife in his mouth. I dunno. I'm not a huge fan a violent movies, but that image sticks with me because it was so cool. The Punisher (Marvel Netflix) was brutal, but I cried when Lewis Wilson died. That a character who did such horrible things, could make me cry because of his struggle with PTSD...that is some amazing acting and writing.

I recently watched the kill count on all punisher films and dds2 and punisher s1 on carnage count. I was shocked to find out that warzone won. It has over 100 something kills. Dolph Lundgren got 2nd place with 90 somethig kills. You would think that a show with 13hrs would win in this vs a movie with less than 2hrs. But no the show only got 60 something when you would think it would get in the high hundreds with way more screen time.

I haven't seen the Dolph Lundgren or Ray Stevenson version, though Ray Steveson does get a solid 5/5 for best designed punisher because he does look like he walked right out of the comic page. So I'm gonna talk only Thomas Jane and Jon Bernthal. And it's a tie because I can't say one's better than the other because I have to take it all in regards to the 2004 movie and the Netflix show and each has its strengths and weaknesses. The 2004 film I have a soft spot and the Netflix show is amazing. However the film clearly had studio interference all over it, and the Netflix Show I think kinda was trying to do too many things at once story was because it felt like the main plot kept getting put on hold for side plots until it went back to the main plot.

I have to disagree with your interpretation of the Netflix Punisher. What you are not taking into account is the fact that this is a series on netflix that will most likely have a season 2. If you go straight into the shit right away than your going to have a very short lived series. I mean, did the Walking Dead go straight to Negan? No, because you need to form a connection to the character. Not like a movie where the producers want to get people to see a movie, then maybe watch it once in a while. In a series they need to have regular returning viewers in order to make a profit. And you know what? Netflix succeeded in getting their audience invested in the series.

Well...I think I said it in there, if that's what they do in season 2, he can easily move into my top spot. I would argue, we already got a season of introduction to Frank Castle with Daredevil season 2. We already had a connection to our lead and one of the supporting characters. And we already know the world of the show. And if I recall correctly, my argument was that Punisher season 1 was dealing with a lot of the same plot points and backstory that Daredevil season 2 already tackled.

But they barely covered that, after all Frank was just a side character in Daredevil Season 2. By all accounts Netflix had no intentions of doing a Punisher series, but immediately after the second season ended Netflix started getting fan mail for the character, petitions from fans demanding a series, exc. Even people who never watched Daredevil got involved due to the poles on social media. So they had to do a series, but also had to cater to the folks who are either watching the Marvel shows out of order or just picking and choosing. Comes down to wanting to draw in members. People who get that Free 7 Day Trial package who have not watched any of the Marvel shows might decide to watch Punisher first, but with the few references to Daredevil in the show they might decide to watch Daredevil. Show needed to stand on its own, away from Daredevil Season 2. P.S. Kudos for actually responding. Caught me off guard. Most people who do channels like this only respond to a limited number of comments within the first forty eight hours after release or just don't bother.

Yeah not many are agreeing with me. Like I said, it's not really just a talent issue for me. ON pure talent and acting chops displayed, Bernthal easily wins. But it comes down to what the actor has been given to do with their characterization. Punisher season 1 started with Frank in Punisher mode, but it very quickly has him retire once he finishes his mission of vengeance. In which case he's more the Revenger than Punisher. Then it spends the season setting up his backstory again and putting him on another mission of revenge or protecting friends. I would STRONGLY argue that haven't shown him go full Punisher yet.

The cool thing about "Dirty Laundry" is that [ALL SPOILERS FROM HERE ON] it features a version of Frank Castle who's trying to give up being a vigilante (that's why he waits so long before helping the girl), and also trying to get over the drinking problem that was implicit in the Jane movie, and his two addictions -- drinking and Punishing -- are treated as metaphors for each other, until they converge in the finale when he finally heads to the liquor counter and orders a bottle of booze (which he's been avoiding throughout the film), only to use the bottle to punish the thugs.

I never played the video game or saw the fan made film but I did see all three Punisher movie and I watched the pilot episode of the Neflix series. Even though you ranked Thonas Jane's the best because mainly of his voice work on the video game. I rank him the best solely on his performance in the movie. My ranking is the same as yours.

Dolph was the best look for the role, he's big and chiseled, looks imposing without a chainfed machine gun let alone with one. Tom Jane can do the layers and the acting but he's 5'10", the punisher character has seemed to rely more on emotion and delivery in recent years which is good, however if Dwayne Johnson ever gets the role, he might win an Oscar

I love war zone this punisher was different from the others he was eerie and he was dark and filled with so much rage that he exploded someone’s face with his fist and the final Fight was bad fucking ass and he was just brutal but the plot was just fucked I think they could’ve done better and the tone was something else but I love but not as much Thomas Jane

Obviously you must be a big fan of Thomas Jane if you are I definitely respect that unfortunately for me I've collected Punisher comic books for many years and I respect the fact that you had said what you said about Ray Stevenson and I will disagree with you on one point I believe Ray Stevenson and the movie Punisher war zone should be ranked number one just because the fact is I get a Punisher MAX feel from that film not so much story-wise which is why Jon bernthal's show probably gets or should get the top spot because they have enough time to focus on character development much like Punisher war zone where they didn't really have a huge funding for that film so Lexi Alexander probably did what she could do what what she had but I feel Ray Steve's and look like he jumps straight out of the comic book from classic to Punisher MAX I really feel he should be given another chance to make a separate Punisher MAX film and he really does look like The Punisher straight from the comic book and you're right I never get that filled with Jon Bernthal he's a light slightly different from the comic book version but unfortunately he's way too small as well Punisher war zone has a huge cult following till this day and I've met a lot of people who want Ray Stevenson back I just hope he gets to come back I doubt that'll ever happen but if he does get a chance to come back I hope they make a true to the Punisher MAX film The Vietnam era Punisher what is Ray Stevenson never comes back my pick for the next Punisher on the big screen or a separate Punisher MAX series on TV should be actor Michael Shannon if you ever seen the movie Iceman you probably would see what I was talking about but great video I really love your review and yes I I also like Punisher Thomas Jane movie back from 2004 I love all the films the TV series is okay it's not my favorite pick of the Punisher or version so to speak but thank you for putting this review out I think it was the most honest and more reasonable reviews that I've seen online and giving the other films a bit of a chance and yes I do realize there are a lot of points these films have missed so thank you

You must love the campiness and blood letting which was over kill and cartoonish ......it's a fantasy world ..... but you need some realism and a decent story ..... I hate the marvel comics movies which are cookie cutter super hero ... But I was never a comic book addict ... take care man
