In these All Along The Watchtower guitar lesson videos you will learn how to play one of Jimi Hendrix's most beloved songs note-for-note!
It was released on The Jimi Experience's final album of new material Electric Ladyland in September 1968.
This song has it all from cool chord lead style rhythm guitar parts to half a dozen solos. There is something in this song for every player to learn from.
In the All Along The Watchtower guitar lesson videos you will slowly be taken through all of the sections that make up this classic rock masterpiece. There are five videos in all including the full performance video.
So take your shot at learning one of Jimi Hendrix's finest moments then go to the full performance video and play along. The entire performance and note-for-note lessons are done in standard tuning as opposed to Hendrix's original half step down tuning. That way, everyone can learn the song without having to re-tune their guitars. A real life saver for any player with a Floyd Rose.

The whole 3rd solo is absolutely brilliant guitar work, the way it keeps changing, but that part is one of the best parts. On the record he had his wah toed all the way forward, which is why it sounded so bright.

8:14 What settings do i use on the amp for the "clean sound?" I have a pretty old crap amp and all it has High, Mid, Low for Equalization and then Overdrive. No treble or bass mix. Help?

I'm pretty late but the best way to get tones on your amp is to basically "get to know it". Experiment a lot with it, I remember when I got my first amp when I was 13, I was self-taught and didn't know anyone who played guitar. I picked up guitar skills pretty quick, but the technicalities of good tone took me a couple months to really get down, so just mess around with it and eventually it will just click.

What are the tuning for these solos. I would say it must be 1/2 step down : Eb Ab Dd Gb Bb Eb ?

Yes it is. If you wanna play it in E standard tuning just olay everything one step lower than he says. For example when he plays fret 12 in the video, then you play it on fret 11 in E standard. Thats how I play this song.

I love these videos. But there's a problem. Whenever I play the chord progression in the verse before the second and third solo's, when I'm playing on an amp it sound horrible. When I play it unplugged it sounds great. Help me out?

Maybe slide on the studio version but to play it live it's to fast, so I just use C# octave slide it down & back my 335 doesn't have a sammy bar. i've never seen any footage of Jimi using a slide other than a mic stand?

I said the same thing when I was a beginner but now I use my thumb to bar the Low E, A and D strings always. Of course, when I was a beginner I was like 9 so I had smaller hands. You'll adapt eventually and it will become natural.
