I've had every version of a 5150, I remember the first time I played a fireball 100 and powerball 2....such an incredible amp, I boost everything to tighten things up a bit more but I fell in love with just plugging straight from guitar to amp and not needing a boost. It just blew me away, ENGL is what I tour with and use in studio. I have a 2x12 with a dv77 and a WGS DW signature speaker and they scream but also so balanced for dark, erie clean tones with delay/reverb, slight hint of chorus.

Title is misleading, I thought you were going to bash the amp. 😂I agree with you, I think Engl amps are the sickest. From the designs to the sound, pure perfection. It was the black aesthetic that drew me to Engl products when I first got into guitar too. My eyes liked Engl amps before I knew what good amps were. Never owned any Engl, I hope to change that in the very near future. I want a Fireball, still debating if I should get the 25 or the full on 100. I'll cross that bridge when the time comes.

Great Song! Have you ever released some of your own songs in that style? I would really like to buy an Album or so. I also do a lot of Melodic Black Metal with my own bands and projects. All ENGLs I tried out so far (Invader, Ironball, Powerball II) were a bit to sterile or modern sounding for me. I liked my JCM2000 or my Überschall better. But this amp I would really like to try...if it wouldn't be that expansive. 🤟🤣

I feel this also. Low gain mode with more gain reminds Plexi and high gain reminds Mesa Rectifier. and according to one good Demo at KZbin in A tuning its ultra fat/meat, very tight with super clarity on notes

I bought the Orange Super Crush 100 to cheap out on a rig. I have yet to throw a drive or eq pedal at it... but if I get a tubey tube amp it's gonna be the Fireball. Every amp comparison I've watched it always stands out to me, super percussive.

This is definitely in the cards. It'll be hard to get a first E670SE, but if that should ever happen, I'll definitely do a comparison. As for comparing it to other ENGLs, that'll 100% happen.

Yeah it's got a price... but for example, the Driftwood Darkest Nightmare has a similar price point but not nearly as versatile. In this case the SE/FE would be so versatile that you probably wouldn't need any others and could sell off other amps/gear. For the cabinet, I used the Celestion ENGL Backline, XXL SM57 Balanced IR for the demonstration. For the reamp, I used a bunch of different IRs... already can't remember because I have the memory of a fish 😆 It's on the reamp video in my Patreon though if you're curious.

I would LOVE to see a A/B/C between this and the Artist (prio 1) and Savage mk2 since im on my way buying a new Engl. (Have mk2, Artist grey Edition and Fireball) Fireball and Savage was a little too cold for my taste. So either I buy the Black Artist or the this. Is it warmer Artist-ish than the Savage?

Great video man! But I gotta say, you should’ve done the review in a higher tuning. Maybe E/D standard. Everything sounds muddied up in the super low tunings. A higher tuning would’ve showed off the true character of the amp better.

I disagree. The ENGL catches every note in Drop A and it's very clear. The Driftwood Darkest Nightmare was a literal nightmare to get Drop A to be anywhere near close how articulated these notes are. HOWEVER--definitely want to re-visit this when I can get my hands on it again... was so sad to send it back to ENGL 🤣
