Fell in love with this pedal, after seeing this video. Luckily a friend of mine had it and wasn't really using it at all; so I borrowed his. I love the ability to have "weird" pedal effects without have to commit to buying a single pedal for a effect you might use very little, like the 8 bit or mini synth. I wish I knew about this pedal much earlier. Also the new update is FANTASTIC.

The 70 cdr is really great, considered the price. Tremendous value and very inspirational. I sold my H9 max which is nearly 10 times pricier; surely better quality, better a/da conversion, better bypass, BUT... in a live situation not so noticeable.....great tool!

The MS 70 CDR is stereo out and stereo in and only has the Chorus / Modulation / Delay and Reverb stuff. That should work I guess! If you also need distortion in addition the MS 50G is the better solution. But you can just go in mono but stereo out.

Yessirree! I needed a reverb pedal and bought a Zoom MS-50G from a starving college student (a good source of affordable used gear) about a year ago for $50.00 CAD. I still cannot believe my blind luck in stumbling onto this thing. I use it daily for both guitar and bass effects. With the last firmware update the options are pretty much limitless. I bought that pedal just for Shoe Gaze. I looked at several Fender Jazzmaster guitars because of the unique tone. I did not like the quality. I built my own Jazzmaster with the best parts. I made the body on a friend's CNC machine. I did buy the neck and put my own ebony fret board on it. I wound the pickups and I did buy the hardware and locking tuners. Fender could not make a guitar of this quality. It plays like a dream and it sounds great. Now some people and friends want me to make them one I explain why it cost more than they have. I own the 70 CDR... It's been updated lately with new effects like Compressors. This pedal is a nice tool, but with a Boss ES-8 and a disaster area ghost converter, it is full midi controlable and it becomes absolutely unbeatable! Some sounds like shimmer or black hole are so cool, they sound exactly the same that their extensive models. You've got to give it Time to tweak it, but from a strictly sounds point of view, it is an amazing pedal which has no contenter in the market at this Time.

Don't forget the Zoom MS-100BT. It has a bluetooth connection and you can add additional effects via an iOS app. They used to sell them through the app, but are now available for free since May this year. It's stereo in and out. It's probably the best buy from the Zoom MS series. I own a 70CDR and will probably get a 100BT to match, and build a hacked MIDI controller for them through the USB port - somebody did it, so it is possible. :)

I have the ms50g. I got it for rehearsals / jamming and have used it for gigs. It has some really good sounds. As with most effects units, many are over the top or harsh but some are great. Switching between sounds is not easy for a live gig (especially when singing so time to tweak on the fly is limited) so I have a Boss GT100. More flexible but 4 times the price and so far I don't like the sounds as much as the zoom, eg RAT drive for breaking up sounds on overdrive. I love the particle echo setting on this video, as mentioned in one of the other commentsFor some of the shows I do, string sounds and brass sounds would be really useful - you mentioned asking if we had any queries / ideas - so there you go. Thanks for the video, also for the one on upgrading the firmware :)

What's the difference between the 2? Also just got a Polara and feel I should've gotten this!
@andrejsuliakovskij81287 жыл бұрын
Robert Palacios the difference between the MS-70CDR and MS-50G is that the 50G contains drive, cab simulations and even some quirky sounds (mono synth!) as well as delay chorus and reverb. While, on the other hand, the MS-70CDR only has delay chorus and reverb, as well as some utility tools like eq, which is a bit more extensive than in the 50G. It's worth mentioning that 50G got some updated over the years and the latest one contains most of the effects of the 70CDR. Also as someone already mentioned, the 50G has mono IN and stereo OUT, while 70CDR has both stereo IN and OUT.
@jetjaguar727 жыл бұрын
Andrej Šuliakovskij thanks for the reply! Great info
@tonepoet7 жыл бұрын
You can basically use the MS-50G straight to a board (or interface) and get great results due to the cab simulations. I've done a good bit of recording with it (together with TC Electronics Flashback and HOF). The 70CDR only has the time based effects (no cab simulation). The updated sounds to the MS-50G make it a better option in my opinion.

Thank you for this comment. Very helpful!

With the v2.0 update for the 70CDR there is now a monosynth, as well as lots of other quirky things, lots of new filters, and several new comps. It's well worth the update.

I have one ever since they came out. Here's my take on the pedal: 1 - *It has some pretty good stuff in it but it also has some bad ones* - most of the Reverbs, Delays and Chorus are great. Do they sound like the originals they try to emulate? Don't care [though the Boss emulations, some of the Eventide stuff and the EHX Small Clone is pretty spot on]. The problem is in the "extras". 2 - *The Extras are shitty overall* - the phaser, Pitch Shifters and flanger are very lackluster. The Flanger has that digital metallic thing to it that is damn annoying. Way too bright. The 4 and 8 voice Phaser sound pretty much identical to the Inverted 4 and 8 counterparts. The Pitch Shifters are glitchy and sound awful on the 1 octave down and 1 or 2 octave up range. The Vibe is shitty. The Rotator is bad. The Noise Surpressor works BUT from mid point onward is "all or nothing". 3 - *The "ok" Extras* - The Guitar and Bass EQs and the line selector are ok. They do their job quite well. The Dual Tremolo is also quite alright though you'll struggle to get a smooth volume up and down from it [it's more like a square wave than a triangle or sine wave in any of it's positions]. 4 - *It's either/or for the Tap Tempo and Tuner switching* - The major gripe I have with the CDR is the way the TAP Tempo and Tuner function. You can only have either one or the other engaged when you press the footswitch. This is not good for live use, unless you have a standalone Tuner already on your board. 5 - *The Tap Tempo is somewhat awkward* - It doesn't work for all the delays, only for those that have sub-divisions; also the tap tempo function is linked to the sub-divisions themselves. This means that if you set your delay for 320 in the CDR the Tap Tempo will not function. It will only function if you set the delay time to the sub-divisions [in the end of the delay time is where you will find them]. Live, this is not good either. Also, the Tap Tempo will not go bellow 40 BPMs for some reason. 6 - *Zoom had a great idea, but didn't think of it well* - This is one of those examples in which Zoom should have done the CDR the same way they did the G1on. A dual foot-switch with the ability to add an Expression Pedal into. The Tap Tempo and Tuner/change presets should be independent of each other. The way the CDR is, it needs pre-planning if you intend to use it live. Also, some of the FXs in the CDR demand an Expression Pedal to take full advantage of them. It would be so nice if they included an EXP IN. 7 - *It's a great Pedal for the effects you use in a fixed fashion or as a sporadic "extra flavor" to your overall sound* - Because the unit requires pre-planning, you end up either choosing those reverbs and chorus you usually use in a fixed way [like the barebones of your sound] or as a momentary spice. In either way it works like a charm. But due to it's own quirky design, you'll end up requiring other pedals to accompany it. It's a great unit overall and you can use it in a myriad of ways [I also use it to alter the living shit out of my drumpads] but it's low points become noticeable the more you use it. I do hope they release a new version of this pedal and strip it away of the useless stuff it has.

Amazing video. Is possible to make shoegaze with only one of these pedals or you need both?
