This sia a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2022 Lexus NX 350, NX25, NX350h and NX450h+ models. NX 250 - 2.5L 4-cylinder with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. FWD available in the US. NX 350 - 2.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 275 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. NX 350h - 2.5L 4-cylinder with Lexus hybrid drive matched with an ECVT, 239 total system horsepower. NX 450h+ - 2.5L 4-cylinder with Lexus plug-in hybrid drive with an ECVT, 302 total system horsepower. 61 km/37 miles of EV range. The NX is wider, taller and longer than the outgoing model with a 14% increase in cargo space with the second row in use. The new Lexus NX is 20 mm wider, 5 mm taller and the wheelbase is 30 mm longer. The exterior doesn’t look as angular as the outgoing model, it is more rounded, it has an enhanced spindle grille, 18” wheels with optional 20” wheels. The back end has slim LED taillights and a full light bar with the Lexus script. All NX models come with run flat tires now to save space in the cargo area, there is no longer a spare tire. Instead, you get under floor storage and for the Hybrid or PHEV, it’s where the battery is stored. There is an available hands free power liftgate. The Lexus NX comes standard LED headlights and LED taillights with optional triple beam headlights. Designers took a lightweight and compact approach reducing the overall gross weight of the NX 350h by 210 pounds.The exterior doesn’t look as angular and sharp as the outgoing model, but it still has the big grille we’ve come to expect from Lexus. It comes standard with 18” wheels, optional 20” wheels. The backend has slim LED taillights and a full light bar with the Lexus script. All NX models come with run flat tires, there is no longer a spare tire but extra storage under the cargo floor. The NX 350 comes standard with LED headlights and taillights with optional triple beam headlights, which our F Sport model has. There have been some fantastic upgrades to the interior, gone is the trackpad, instead a standard 9.8” touchscreen, an optional 14” which our test model has, wireless Apple Carplay and Android, E-latch door handles and Safe Exit Assist. A new digital latch system allows the doors to open smoothly at the touch of a button when exiting or entering. Safe Exit Assist works in conjunction with the E-latch door handles and scans the area to let you know if cyclists or cars are approaching before you open the door. If it senses something, it will not allow you to open the doors. There is a manual lever, you can override the system is you choose to do so.

personally love the e-latch system…it makes more sense to grab the handle and press the button where your thumb would naturally rest instead of pulling on a door latch and then moving your hand to grab the handle…plus the added pedestrian safety aspect…it is very windy where I live, in the moment it takes to move your hand from the latch to the handle your door gets blown open with force…the e-latch will definitely make a difference as you already have a firm grip on the handle when it releases…

Run-flats are brutal. First thing I did on my Alfa Romeo Giulia was to remove them and put on Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4's. Carry a dedicated flat repair kit and compressor and you will be able to handle any flat. For those time when you have a major blowout, runflats ain't gonna help either. Nothing worse than a luxury vehicle with loud tires.

Great review! 👏 Its good to see Lexus coming out with all new updated models. The NX packs a long list of features, and the interior looks fantastic with the new 14" screen interface and design language. I still like the Genesis GV70 however and would definitely cross shop the two models.

Hey Zack. I'm the one guy who likes his run flat tires! :) I've been driving a 2019 BMW X3 for 2 and a half years with run flat tires and been very happy to know that I won't be stranded somewhere with a flat tire in the rain, snow or soaring heat. Had two punctures over this period and BMW replaced both at no additional cost to me. (I am paying $15 a month for this free tire replacement feature, but worth it to me.) If it wasn't for the much higher price of run flats, people would love them more! But the function definitely gives piece of mind. And it's not noticeably louder, especially not in the city. My girlfriend just ordered an NX350 with the Ultra Luxury package, which is essentially identical to the car you tested, minus the HUD, the F Sport suspension/active dampers, and the F Sport styling. Same interior/exterior colours. It's supposed to be arriving on October 8th. Exciting!

in terms of the horsepower, don't forget that this NX weighs over 4,000 lbs... that's a lot to haul even with 275bhp. But I could live with that I guess because of Toyota quality. Appreciate the honest review like with the Shifter, and no reclining rear seat... really in a luxury SUV...

This is a huge improvement over the last NX. I've never bought a Lexus. Their quality is top notch but their designs have been way over the top for me. But somehow this has cleaned up the design language and it looks very sharp. AND which level of trim would you go for Zack?

Great review guys and good looking interior minus the blood red leather. When comparing alternatives would it be fair to say that the NX is more inline with the Audi Q3 rather than the Q5? I have the latest Q3 here in Australia and when I did my homework and test drove competitors the next Lexus up from the NX was the RX which the dealer advised and you could clearly see was NOT the direct competitor for the Q5 in size and price. I’m thinking the NX is definitely a Q3 competitor. Keep up the good work!

I think NX directly competes with Audi Q5 (because of the price and size) and the UX competes with Q3 (and I confident the Q3 blows out UX without a doubt!). It will be interesting to see a review on 2022 Q5 VS NX.

Can I just say that I like run-flats. It's nice to know that a high-speed blowout isn't going to cause any drama and that extra space is worth having. Sure, the ride is firmer and there's a marginal increase in noise but they're a small price to pay.

I was waiting for this, thank you! Pre-ordered my NX 350 Turbo AWD F Sport here in Australia and can't wait to test drive it! Also the point about the BMW X3 being better, agreed that BMW offers better handling/driving dynamics. That was one of the other vehicles I shortlisted in this segment but the M40i is super expensive and the other engines are less powerful than the 2.4 Turbo on the NX. The xDrive30i is close to it but costs more - and even more when we add in some packs to get some of the features that are standard on this NX. Sadly, Acura is not available here in Australia. So, looking at the retained value, reliability and ownership costs of Lexus vs BMW, I'd pick Lexus any day! Genesis has worse resale value than BMW as you guys quoted in your GV70 review. I'd go for BMW only if I was filthy rich.

On the Lexus Canada site you can compare the different trim levels for the new 2022 NX. For the Executive Package in the 350h model, it comes with ADVANCED REMOTE PARK. It’s the top 350h trim level and the only one with ADVANCED REMOTE PARK. Does anyone know what this does? Is it a self-parking features for parallel parking? Or helps you remotely park the car with your phone app? Thanks!

The GV70 won't be getting a hybrid sadly. They're just going to go straight to an all electric model which will be unveiled soon in Korea.

In our testing, we beat the Lexus-estimated acceleration to 60 mph by a full half-second, hitting 60 in 5.5 seconds versus the quoted 6.0-second time. That's quicker than the other 2022 NX models we've tested, but a 2021 XC60 Recharge reaches 60 in a MotorTrend-tested 5.0 seconds. We haven't yet tested a Q5 plug-in, but Audi estimates its model to be just as quick as the Volvo. In case you wonder, the lighter-weight RAV4 Prime matches the NX450h+'s 5.5-second time to 60. This means the NX plug-in hybrid is both the quickest NX money can buy and the slowest SUV in its tiny segment.

Thanks for the review guys. Can you tell me your thoughts on how these new NX vehicles stack up against the current RX 350/ 450h ? I am planning to get one of these in the next year and I want to figure out which one drives better is more refined, quiet, etc between RX450h. I think the plug in is way too expensive to come close to the HP of the RX450h . I imagine the 2023 Rx will most likely follow the NX drive trains. Which means no V6. Also if a well-equipped NX450h+ with ML and triple beams will cost around 64k, what will a 2023 RX450h+ end up costing fully loaded? 72K? Can you help me figure this out?

Everything looks top notch, agree with Zach with the handle and shifter but I'd like to add a couple of things... touch sensitive steering wheel and HVAC controls are not good for tactile responses. Hated the new Audi interiors with dual screens instead of hard buttons and I was really disappointed to see that the prior premium-feeling buttons and knobs are replaced with 99% screen which is cheaper to manufacture and just feels gross to control.

I’ve never been a fan of the styling but it’s nicer looking now with less of the peculiar bumps and angles of the prior version. I’m more interested in the 450h plug-in hybrid. However, if the stealers/dealers jack up the price because of high demand and short supply, then I’ll look at Genesis rather than the non-plug-in Lexus versions. Or I could go all electric.

Oh, I don't know. Just sat in a 2022 NX a few days ago. Raised the car seat to suit my height of 5'7". Still, trying to look over the hood at the road was like trying to look over a mountain. Uhhh. And such a cramped looking cabin. I just walked away. In contrast, the new 2022 ES300h is a delight, so spacious, big trunk, even a spare tire despite being a hybrid. That's the one for me. Too bad, I was so looking forward to the NX. For me, gas mileage is important; it is 44 miles a gallon (USA gallons) for the ES300h. The NX hybrid is pretty darn good at 39 mpg. Awesome mileage for an SUV, I'd say. Lexus cars are hard to come by these days due to the global chip shortage, and dealers give zero discounts now. Some charge thousands more than list price is what the dealer said.

Such a nice looking vehicle. Not sure if the backseat area has temperature control. That to me is more important than Andrea’s heated steering wheel :):) Can you two please add this to your reviews when a car has to is available as an option? As a luxury brand it really should have it … Acura RDX does and is cheaper. I don’t like the bright white of the huge info screen when items are being selected. I just watched Straightpipes review and there are a lot of quirky things with the info system … when volume knob is adjusted … screen is interrupted to show volume change … entirely blanking out other info for a few seconds. Etc.

I just want to point out these are prototype models that we were able to drive, something that Lexus and Toyota don't ever allow, they will all be crushed and not sold. Straight pipes may have had some issues with the infotainment screen, we didn't. But, with the chip shortage, it's been difficult for manufacturers. We are just happy we were able to drive one. So things are definitely not perfect in these prototype vehicles, but they aren't the finished product. We can definitely add in temperature control in the backseat, thanks for the tip.
