What about the spray option? No one has covered that part
@5MinutesBlender Жыл бұрын
We are adding spray tutorial in our action item. We will create a tutorial for release. The challenge with spray is, you need to use a particle system to create the spray. Ocean modifier won't help you with anything other than a velocity vector that you can input into your particle system. Basically, you'll need to create the spray effect yourself, only taking some vector information from the ocean data. So it is not so useful as it sounds. That may be the reason why it is not so popular either.

How did you figure out what time increment to use?
@5MinutesBlender5 ай бұрын
By trial & error to be honest (not shown in the tutorial). Once you play with this stuff a lot, you get an idea of the ideal values to use - purely based on your experience.

How do I make it seem large or like real life ocean(endless looking)
@5MinutesBlender2 жыл бұрын
Any endless geometry is always faked by visual tricks, it is not what you see. But your question is still valid. How do we make a large ocean? First, it needs a lot of compute power. The overall method remains the same. The subdivisions will increase. You will use a very short height for the waves. The camera will be close to the ocean surface in order to see the waves moving. Basically we will be taking a microscopic view (not literally). Now control your camera such that it never actually captures any edge of the ocean, or hide the edges with some objects like moving ship, clouds, or a glaring sun.

What about the edge of the water on the beach, where the water rolls on the sand and retracts? How would that be done?
@5MinutesBlender3 жыл бұрын
Very good question. I tried that during the thumbnail creation for this tutorial, with half success. You can create an uneven slant plane with sand texture, for the seashore. Then make it intersect with the ocean water. So you will get the ocean water going up & down the seashore. Ensure that the edge of the water remains under the seashore plane, so that it is always hidden. It works very well for a hilly seashore. But the water treatment on sand beach is more delicate. For the best results, we need to create actual sand particles through particle physics and probably we need to also use fluid physics separately for the retreating water effect on sand. It all depends on how much realism you want to achieve. Frankly, it was overkill for this tutorial, so we did not get into that. Who knew that we'll have a viewer thinking in the same line? 😂😂
@macnavi3 жыл бұрын
@@5MinutesBlender 😊 The hilly seaside is a good and logical idea. I think if you are somehow able to add foam to the water end, it would be convincing enough.

Adding an emission Shader make the Foam Glow in the Dark wouldn't that be a problem with nighttime ocean scenes?
@5MinutesBlender2 жыл бұрын
You're correct. I did not test it with nighttime atmosphere. We may have to tweak the settings little bit. But the thing is, the foam actually glows on the waves in the nighttime (I mean in the real ocean). So it is theoretically ok, but we have to reduce the intensity to make it look real.

Hi, sunlight won't be suitable for an ocean, you need HDRI. If you don't know how to enable HDRI, please watch this tutorial 👉 kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIbLommZfbmohac And if you have already enabled HDRI but the lighting is not correct, I need to look at your blend to understand what is happening.

When i am using ocen modifier, it's working fine without applying the modifier (animating) but when i apply it, it isn't animating anymore. Can someone please help!!
@5MinutesBlender2 жыл бұрын
If you apply the modifier, it takes a final form for that particular frame where it is applied. That same form will persist on all frames. You do that only when you need a static ocean. For animating ocean, just leave the modifier as it is, don't apply it. Same philosophy goes for all other modifiers as well.
@Neon_Polyform2 жыл бұрын
So if i animate it without applying it with settings i need, it will render all frames animated?

Super tutorial. Very nice for beginners like me. I am wondering if I increase REPEAT X or Y, will this effect on rendering and will put more trouble for CPU? If I keep REPEAT X or Y on single, will this reduce power consumption of rendering and rendering will be easy and fast? If I keep RENDERING at 10 instead of 32, do you suggest that power consumption of rendering will be reduced and Rendering will be easy and faster?
@5MinutesBlender Жыл бұрын
If you repeat X and Y, the ocean will get enlarged in size. It will take more time to render if you capture the entire ocean through your camera. If you only capture one part of the ocean, it does not matter much how large your ocean is. Only the size of the visible area of the ocean will impact the rendering time. If you render with resolution 10, it will take far lesser time than if you use 32.

What about the spray option? How does it work?
@5MinutesBlender2 жыл бұрын
The spray option requires you to first add a particle system. The spray option will use that particle system to create a spraying effect. We did not cover that here because it will make the tutorial unnecessary very long, and it is seldom used. We would plan for a separate tutorial for that.

@@5MinutesBlender well I don't see a spray tutorial
SHALLOW is an adjective. It means not deep. A thin layer of water, like a puddle, is shallow. SWALLOW is a verb. To swallow is the action oftaking water into your self usually through your mouth and down your throat. This is a reasonable beginning tutorial but Blender struggles with creating realistic oceans.

You're so humble to tell us the difference while people usually send harsh criticism if a mistake happens. Im concerned about the rendering time for this... it takes about 30 min to render a simple image on my computer in cycles :O
@5MinutesBlender2 жыл бұрын
Which version of Blender are you using? With version 3.0 onward, now you can set a time limit in Cycles. Your render output will be approximated within the given number of seconds (like you can mention 60 and the output will be ready approximately within 60 seconds - however Blender will compromise with the quality). You need not go with the default settings, you can also change the render settings, specifically the light bounces, and reduce the time further. For this scene, we got sufficiently good results within couple of minutes or 120 seconds.
