Imagine going to the movies as a child to watch movie stars of your time and then they all end up attending a party in your honor. That's quite amazing. Wow. I mean wow.

Interestingly, Beverly Sills wrote in her memoirs that 1982 was one of the worst years of her life - her tenure as the chief of the NYC Opera was going very badly. She eventually turned it all around. But her love and admiration for Carol Burnett was genuine.

Carol Burnett.... beautiful inside and out...🤗💜🤗💜. Praise the Lord that we still have her. Many of those in her audience are no longer with us😢. Let's enjoy her while we can. Ty Carol for all the wonderful laughs..💜

Thanks for posting this! If you have more I'd love to see! It's very moving when Beverly Sills comes out. Carol is so surprised to see her dear friend. It's a bit odd that the camera didn't catch Bette Davis when Carol spoke to her, though.

Yeah, when the camera did not go on her when Carol spoke about All About Eve and even mentioned Bette's dialogue, I thought she wasn't there at all, until she appears in the singing group at the end.

One of the very few and very last time Sills sang in public after her 1980 retirement from the stage.

I remember when this special premiered. Never forgot how Jimmy Stewart came out to sing to Carol as she whispered, "You're wonderful". And it appears that she has outlived almost all of those standing with her at the end, except Vivki Lawrence.

I’ve never seen this before, and yet I met both ladies (Carol & Beverly) on different occasions, not together though. They were both as delightful as their public persona, although that wasn’t always the case with some other stars.

Steve Lawrence was on here. Where's Eydie?

Can the whole show be posted? The first clip cuts off Steve Lawrence's song and this cuts off Tim Conway funny act to Carol. I have seen the whole show and the best parts are missing.

17:28 BETTE DAVIS????
@akrenwinkle Жыл бұрын
It is, and this is the kind of thing the very private Davis was noted for avoiding. The story goes, and I believe it, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward ran into Bette somewhere, and said, "You must come over for dinner." Bette: "Why?" And the Newmans burst out laughing.
