Vincent has always been a good dude who comes across and dark and mysterious over his trauma and monstrous nature but he's not the one to manipulate nor hide so I don't see this as him saying half truths but kitase and Nomura using a shallow and empty cerberus motif of him being the guard dog bs that serves no purpose. If he was doing so for Lucrecia's crystallized corpse then yeah it would make better sense to be the guard dog to that but not Shinra and clearance for going inside a room. Why does he give a f if Cloud and CIA go into a room Shinra doesn't permit? I'd say the og Vincent would be like F this company you do what you want just don't disturb me

i mean Barret has always been there… Also, Tifa and Yuffie are supposed to represent ideal asian beauty, while Aerith is supposed to be European. But Aerith’s model wasn’t well received here in Japan because she’s too “manly looking”. It’s hard to put representation in games here because honestly Japanese people don’t really care about that. And characters like Genesis were literally modeled after real Japanese people like Gackt. Also Gackt is so iconic, he sings Vincent’s theme song. Even when Japanese studios are trying to model a character, they can’t let go of making them somehow Japanese looking. Other than Barret, other characters still are trying to appeal to the Japanese audience, after all SE is a Japanese studio. I don’t like that Regina looks like an Eurasian girl with dark skin, and i’m saying that as an Eurasian girl myself. I hate when black people settle for characters with dark skin as if that’s enough representation. Black beauty is way more than skin or hair, but because Japanese people like things to be homogeneous, even making Aerith look “too white” pisses men here off, so it keeps perpetuating this cycle of making characters with ideal Japanese beauty with slapped on dark skin and hoping it will please the western audience to have one token dark skinned character. Notice how Barret isn’t “ideally handsome” but Regina and every other FF character has the same pretty face. And I’m not just talking about the girls. Cloud, Noctis, Zack, Vincent, Sephiroth, etc, all have the same “pretty face” with few tweaked features. When they got Aerith to look more “white” they just widened her jaw and Japanese fans got angry because she’s not as feminine looking as Tifa and Yuffie. Notice how Aerith’s jaw is wider than a male character like Cloud. That’s perpetuating the stereotype that white women are more masculine looking, that lots of Japanese people really do hold as “true”. Also, “npc” characters like Cid get the “non ideal look” but SE makes sure to make every single protagonist look like a visual kei vocalist, regardless of their ethnic background. Lightning was well received because she still fits the beauty standard. Anyways, I say all of this because I’m tired of black people settling for “representation” when a studio is just being lazy and slapping dark skin on the same face and calling it quits. i wish there were more good representation of black people in all media here. It’s lacking and lazy. I can think of very few good representations of black characters, but Canary from HxH is great and I love her character. Wished she showed up more, but tbh HxH’s author is already a pioneer when it comes to representation, compared to other mangaka. Just tired of the “token black character” trope. Even white characters get made fun of homogenous games like Ryu Ga Gotoku (specifically Bacchus). Japanese people still have a long way to go when it comes to actually accepting other races. I know it well, even though I’m just half white.

Dunno, I feel like Matt Mercer is the perfect choice for "generic edgy fellow" but I also like Vincent too much and feel like he's too ever present and ubiquitous to really give an identity to the role that isn't "Matt Mercer's edgelord voice". Still, I feel like Vincent (for an unplayable character) has been done respectfully for the fans of that God awful game he stared in like me (I like it, but man, the writer was like "what if VINCENT was the key to everything")

I feel like DoC was an attempt to capitalise on people's positive reactions to Vincent in OG FF7 and make him cooler BUT much like Communism, DoC only worked on Paper
