It seems to me that Sean Connery was offered the role of Gandalf, and he turned it down. But the producer and director had chosen the most suitable actor to play the wizard, in my opinion. And for many of LOTR fans, this Gandalf was just right. He endeared himself to us. I will always be grateful for the actor who brought Gandalf to life. He was just right! 😊💕💕💕👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏

I went and saw this movie at the theater when it came out. At the time I was going through a horrible divorce and child custody case. And my grandfather had passed away from cancer a few months before... I'm 6'1" and I dropped down to less than 140 lbs and my 28W jeans barely stayed on. It was a dark time. But this scene inspired me to persevere and gut it out. Things get better. Don't give up.

I’m currently the reading The Fellowship for the first time and realised this line is in the book but is used much earlier on when Frodo and Gandalf are in the Shire and find out it is the One Ring. I’m kind of glad they moved it towards the end of the film instead.

or to live in the times Tolkien both saw personally or what was occurring while he wrote the books... JRR Tolkien is on record for hating allegory largely because of his colleague and friend CW lewis. allegories like Jesus Lion etc lack depth and introspection. but as all people try to do Tolkien tried to put into words what he was experiencing. many of the greatest speeches from the books come from these experiences or from values instilled into the author not black and white and simple but deep and passing simple shallow understanding of the modern era. dwell on the words of this old professor of theology and languages veteran of the first world war a man who saw his son go off into the war (didn't see actual combat but that's Christopher's like) in 1943. he lived to see such times and had to abide them.

"Bilbo was meant to find the ring. In which case, you were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought." This right here. Frodo laments his role in all this, and Gandalf reminds him that fate has played its part to ensure the right people possess the ring and pass it along. The fact that Frodo is meant to carry it to Mount Doom means that fate saw in him the will to see this task through. It means that what forces guide the people of Middle Earth, they put all their faith into a single Hobbit, the most unassuming and non-special of folk.

I have been clean for 6 months for good, and am doing well and excelling in all my classes, but I still wished that what happened never did for a long time. All of the friends, girls, relationships I destroyed, and times I missed out on, but I watched this movie the other day and the scene gave me hope. In my case that 1 time I tried that was just like the ring coming to Frodo, and it is encouraging to think that experience has shaped me and will continue to over time. I am stronger because of it, this scene made me reconcile and feel a lot better about that. “With the time that is given to us” #grateful
