Thank you for touching on this topic. I once made the mistake of trying to “include” an introvert in a casual group conversation. She stated exactly what you said. She didn’t feel like she had anything to contribute to that part of the conversation. I learned a valuable lesson that day. Some people are just content listening.

That's me in a nutshell. I find general small talk very boring, but what makes it interesting for me is to observe how others find it energising, and musing over body language in relation to statements that are casually made. I find body motions fascinating, so that's how I would typically enjoy myself in such a setting. I definitely observe more than I participate!

Being alone doesn't really bother me but I do have a very strong desire for family, friendship and intimate relationships. It's a desire almost as much as eating. I see people all over the world of all different ages, cultures, social status that have friends, family and connect with others. I get so depressed at times because just like a neutered dog I just don't get it. I just don't understand why it's impossible for me to get what people everywhere get so effortlessly. And I've put myself out there and tried but all my relationships end the same way with them abandoning me. I don't even try anymore. I've pretty much resigned myself to my fate

I'm an INFJ, and I can be either an introvert or ambivert depending on who I am around. I am not anti-social, I am selectively social. I am definitely an HSP. That's why I can only tolerate other people's energy for so long, I can only handle their emotions in short stints. Subjects of interest will keep me engaged, small talk is the bane of my existence. I NEED my alone time for my sanity and recharging.

Thank you for explaining me so well! My dad and all of my ex-boyfriends are very extroverted and none of them understood me. We always had people at our house for cook outs, stay overs, etc. because my dad loves an entourage and it would drive me nuts as a child!!! I wish this video had been available when I was a teenager so that I could educate people in my life about my needs. It wasn't until my early thirties that I realized fully what I am and that there wasn't anything wrong with me. Thank you for another clear, informative, helpful video!!

I always thought i was an extrovert until a life changing event. Maybe it changed me? Or was it just that I have always been putting on an act wanting to be an extrovert but i was always truly an extrovert? I guess I’m a little confused about myself. Marriage, betrayal, isolation made me more comfortable being alone. I recently took the mbti test and it says I’m a INFJ. It surprised me but when i read into it, it definitely resonated with me as well.

Im introverted but more on the extroverted side. I dont like deep conversations as i find them draining. I would rather talk about many different things for a short period of time. I also tend to avoid people although i do initiate contact. I do tend to withdraw as well. I like being in groups but dont like talking much id rather listen. I couldnt spend all day with one person. I go for talkative people, quiet people freak me out as i dont feel comfortable around them and i dont like talking about myself. I prefer talking about hobbies and interests but nothing personal. Im not that trusting. I also have Social Anxiety but its not as bad as it used to be.

We cant talk about introversion and extroversion and not acknowledge energy as a contribution. Listening IS a contribution, one's mere presence IS a contribution. Any therapy group or addiction recovery meeting knows that. It bothers me to hear you put your stepdads listening as not contributing, which also devalues listening. It was very much a contribution. Without words, we can be more aware of the energy exchange that is very much happening, and is a contribution, and is valuable. You would think in a post pandemic world having a person that listens and is present would be more valued.

Difference between autism VS introversion?
@DocSnipes
@DocSnipes 5 ай бұрын
Autism and introversion are distinct concepts, each with its own set of characteristics. Autism is a developmental disorder that affects communication, behavior, and social interaction in various ways. It is a spectrum condition, meaning it can present differently in each individual, with symptoms ranging from mild to severe. People with autism may have difficulties with social communication, exhibit repetitive behaviors, and have a strong preference for routines. They may also have unique strengths and differences in how they perceive the world around them. Introversion, on the other hand, is a personality trait characterized by a preference for quiet, minimally stimulating environments. Introverts tend to feel drained after socializing and regain their energy by spending time alone. This is not due to a developmental disorder but rather a natural variation in personality. Introverts may enjoy deep conversations and have a few close friends rather than a wide circle of acquaintances. They are often introspective and may need downtime to reflect and recharge. It's important to note that while introverts may find social interaction exhausting and need time alone to regroup, this is not due to the same reasons as the challenges faced by individuals with autism. Introversion is a way of interacting that is common in healthy, empathetic, compassionate people and does not stem from a developmental disorder. In summary, autism is a developmental condition with a wide range of symptoms affecting social interaction and behavior, while introversion is a personality trait where individuals prefer less stimulating environments and may need alone time to recharge. Both can influence how a person interacts with the world, but they originate from different causes and have different implications for the individual's life and relationships.
