I finally picked up the Essence highlighter she loves and it’s soooo amazing! No chunky glitter and I actually like it better than the way the Becca highlighters look (they’re more glittery/chunky IMO) and like 7X cheaper!

Deb Shand essence pure nude highlighter! They make a light and a darker shade. It’s perfection! I like to build it up to not be natural haha but it’s so fine and no glitter chunks it still looks amazing. Especially if you finish your makeup with a setting spray, it just melts into the skin and glows

A couple of their choices had me questioning them....🤔🤔🤔 I've tried a lot of awesome drugstore eyeshadow palettes and the Almay and Rimmel ones wouldn't even make a top 10 for me. I honestly don't really trust magazines to recommend beauty products anymore. I feel like the beauty editors can be easily persuaded by brand PR or gimmicks that seem exciting at first but fall down in real life or on extended wear. I picture them picking from products from their beauty closet and testing them in office under superficial settings, rather than actively going out and hunting down the best products. Also it's not transparent which editor(s) are making the decision, which items were gifted to them, or which brands may have taken the editors on a sponsored brand trip etc. At least in the KZbin/Instagram beauty community, there is typically more disclosure around that type of potential influence / motive for using a particular product. I'm sure there are some great beauty editors out there who truly have a passion for cosmetics and experiment constantly beyond their working hours, I just wouldn't know who they are!

I've enjoyed the Allure awards since I was a make up-loving girl...but this year's awards (high-end & drugstore) are disappointing. I've heard that since Linda Wells left, that the awards (other than readers' choice) are basically for "sale", that some brands are paying (maybe through ad fees?) for placement. IDK if it's true, but both lists have obscure brands & products included, that I haven't heard anyone raving about.

Hmm I think with KZbinrs you’re only see one skin type / skin color test out something versus Allure has a beauty team filled with diverse skin types and tones that help choose the best so maybe that has something to do with it. At least that’s what I read from Allure :)

I really distrust these magazine award winners. I started to notice over the years that the biggest advertisers in the magazines tend to win a lot of the awards, especially in the Good Housekeeping beauty awards. If one of the big companies is launching a new product it will be plastered all through the magazine, and then when the award time of year comes....surprise, it wins.

Magazines receive money the same way that youtubers do to advertise makeup products. That doesn't mean that these awards are completely fake, but it's important to keep this in mind and make your own judgments about how honest these awards are being about the products.

I don't know if you've tried them yet, but the Rimmel Mangnifeyes in Spice, Crimson and Jewel Rocks are AMAZING! They are very pigmented and blend beautifully. They are my current GO TO pallets right now - even over my more expensive pallets.
