I've been rewatching a lot of 70's and 80's movies. I was amazed by how many of them Michael Pataki was in. I was shocked that he played the Russian guy in Rocky 4. Never thought that was Roselli from this episode. He's actually a great actor. Like a chameleon with his roles.

Actually Archie makes roundabout sense about "a crack in the head is worth a thousand words." We can certainly see the results of all the intervening years of "there's nothing the P.D. can do" has done for all of us. Recalling the day of the home invasion and assault in my former home, 10 years ago, it took the police department a half-hour to respond to the call that my down-the-street neighbor told me she made about the perpetrator when he was outside her home, shouting into her master bedroom window in his Meth-high state.

All in the Family had some of the best character actors in the business. My favorites were the recurring characters: Val Bisoglio (Ralph Silvestri) and Barnard Hughes (Father Majeski). Their performances were so memorable but it was Edith's respect for Father Majeski that touched me so. He was there for her on several occasions (cling peach accident, the clepper (sp), religious enlightenment). Thank you Norman Lear as you influenced generations.

I sympathize with Archie on one thing. Used to be most jobs had these elaborately crafted uniforms that were meant to command respect.... from nurses to nuns to college professors to scientists. Even firemen had these big fancy hats. Then its like everyone collectively said, "f it, I'm dressing how I want" which is always jeans and t-shirt. Reminds me of a paleontologist I saw giving a lecture on KZbin recently who looked like a homeless man. They still try to sound professional with their voice though lol.

If you look closer you'll see he liked Lionel in a fatherly way and actually took him in a few days when he had a falling out with his parents, because he didn't want him out on the street. Even though he pretended to complain about it. When I was a kid I always thought the show was all about showing up racism and bigotry. And it does have that. But as I've gotten older.... I've come to see there were more messages in the show that I think weren't so obvious. The opening song is a hint at one. Another might be that line in To Kill a Mockingbird. "Most people are nice Scout... When you finally see them."
