I've seen one or two Cummins engined Landys but hadn't realised it had become a scene all in its own. Some impressive set-ups there. It's mad to see an old Landy with a unique patina and yet bolted into key places are clean precision engineered components!

It's a sad reality that most Americans don't understand that most land rovers In the UK were made diesel-powered, and the USA market never got them, unsure If Canadian markets got them either. I owned a 1991 200TDi turbo diesel Discovery all standard but had done an easy 240.000 when sold without any engine tear down in its life, in my 10 years of being a daily driver it was just serviced and I replaced the timing belt twice. Set up properly it easily did 90MPH, it even ran happily on 50% diesel and 50% new bulk-bought cooking oil (bio diesel) plus a splash of unleaded that kept the injectors clean but gave a bigger CET rating (bigger bang) bulletproof but old designed engines. My now BMW diesel-powered Freelander has too much elecktricery to try bio but that's okay.. Land rovers you either love them or hate them, guess my choice - lol

Lovely landies. In the US they are ridiculously expensive. There's a 90 just up the street, North American Spec, in very good condition, but just bone stock. It's worth something in the $60-80,000 range. Last time I saw a NAS 110 it was nearly $100k. It's funny, you seem to like the fact it throws out so much black smoke, but nobody wants to breathe it. I love the Lightweight Series III, and thanks for asking him about the transmission and axles. 🙂

Great great video Alli. I love Land rovers and modded ones even better . I had a 96 Disco brand new, the engine sucked , leaked more oil than the Exxon Valdez but it had a very nice body and suspension. I would love to get one with a BMW swapped engine. Thanks for the video.

There is an Australian farmer who has a 1000 hp supercharged V8 ute (not diesel though) which he has run in the Dakar (detuned to a mere 500 hp). The Kamaz Dakar racing trucks have Cummins twin turbo diesels in them (the engines are built under licence in China). Torque and horsepower are monstrous. One of the memorable drives of my racing life is in a Dakar spec Isuzu D-Max turbo diesel with a Holinger sequential dogbox. It weighed about 2300 kg or something like that but accelerated like an EV0 10 . It was gobsmacking. The factory backed tuner had to come out from Japan to do the Dakar spec tune on it. It was anything but agricultural!!

This is high quality content sir, well done. My dad put a Ford Essex V6, in his 2A in 1990, a common swap at the time. Also one of his mates, had GMC Diesel RRC, that seemed bonkers, in the late 90's.

I got rid of almost all my oil burners years ago when diesel somehow got more expensive that 87 unleaded. My old YJ has Perkins 3cyl marine diesel in it and the mileage is the only reason I keep it, that and I can run it on waste oil cut with #2 and a bit of 87.
