Here Togashi as in many parts of Hunter Hunter, pays homage to Dragon Ball as a Dragon Ball fan, and then adds his own spin or elaboration to it. Just as Meruem was basically a homage to Frieza and Cell but reversed into both a protagonist and antagonist, here he is focusing on the character of a wish granter / zashiki warashii or shenron in the case of DB and adding an elaboration of: what if I show the wish granter's own internal personality and feelings as well as the conditions governing their ability?

I'm not sure if I got what you were wondering about but it's actually interesting : I think the wish came first, for ex Killua (or most likely someone else) casually asked Alluka to do smth and the black eyed creature Nanika came out and did it, and then it made 3 little requests to someone else (most likely Killua) and then Killua asked how the power works and then they somehow managed to keep it a secret until the first butler girl found out...idk how they did it since the person doing the wish must be different every time but maybe bc Alluka was still young they didn't pay attention right away... Idk About Alluka's gender not a big deal imo (I mean she's what.. 10?) but Killua is calling her 'she' probably bc he's the only one having a normal relationship with her since she was old enough to choose her own clothes and communicate on how she perceived her self, so Killua is acting accordingly bc he loves and cares, but we can see that obviously when Alluka was younger they dressed 'her' like a little boy bc Alluka is male... I think after the power was discovered and they feared her the other members of the family were never even in a position to discuss gender with Alluka which makes sense ...they only provided clothes and toys as requested but no real interactions probably The interesting part for me is Kalluto bc he's dressing like a girl too and I wonder if this has smth to do with Alluka, and maybe the "brother" he's talking about in the Chimera VS PT episode, that he wants to get back, is actually Alluka...it would make sense for him to want to be stronger and learn more about nen and other stuff to be able to help his older brother... Kalluto is the youngest sibling and probably grew up wondering what happened with Alluka for her to end up in jail 😅...I think it's interesting to think of this situation with Kalluto's perspective, being the youngest of the Zoldyck clan must be real tough 😞
