I'm in the military so we drink a lot of water but also thus have to pee a lot throughout the day. Depending on the activities planned, we'll have some electrolyte powder added. And at night we chug a quart of water before bed (which means a disruptive night of having to get up to pee). Idk how scientifically sound it all is but dehydration is the quickest way to go down so it's a better alternative than heat exhaustion (and potential ensuing brain damage).
@trueg115

@@jamesb.russell2942 I think our hydration science is still getting to the basic as for as our understanding goes. I believe one reason why those things are happening is chronic excess water causes the body to not hold onto water as well. I think we are seeing this systemically from people who have been told to drink more water than they actually need, over a long period of time. I am seeing a population of people drinking more water than ever before and peeing more than ever before. I also notice they do not seem very hydrated throughout this process which is leading them to needing so much water. Our bodies were designed to effectively hold Onto water through the highs and lows of satiation and thirst but I believe by bypassing thirst and consistently drinking more it leads to being waterlogged and the cells not holding onto the water as efficiently, needing more.

Bruh....I work for a pool company in the Sonoran Desert Southwest. I monitor my water intake year round and during the summer (esp late summer when even in this desert it gets humid), depending on how high the temperature gets (It ~easily~ gets to 110° f and can reach 115° f and up), I will drink as much as 2-3 gallons of WATER throughout the entire waking day andy urine will still often get dark! It bothers me bc I think I drink too much water.

Exactly, however I don't know as seen studies that we overestimate water intake unless u exercise around an hr then yes at least 2-3 ltrs per day and I agree. Its the electrolytes we need more of, not over indulge of water especially so much at once. Another huge issue is you will alkalise your stomach acid too much and won't break food down and will sure bring on other issues in the digestive system plus absorption of nutrients etc.

I do physical work outside in the summer heat and drink roughly 2-3L of liquid in a whole day. I sweat quite a bit but don't get dark urine or bad thirst... tbh I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong because these numbers don't add up with the recommendations but I'm feeling good most of the time, so I don't want to throw myself off-balance by drinking a lot more water which might dehydrate me in the end. It's been this way ever since I started keto and I think it's because I had to augment my salt intake.
@jerppazz4525
@jerppazz4525 Жыл бұрын
dont drink more than that. hes pulling these numbers out of his ass. very few people need to drink more than a gallon of water a day. thats a good amount of water and if you dont feel the need to drink more dont. your brain has evolved extremely well to control hydration levels in your body by your thirst. only extreme sweating can throw that off just because you are losing water so fast and your thirst levels cant keep up.

I’m going to have to disagree with you on the point that dark urine is always a bad sign. You want to have dark urine in the morning. Giving your kidneys a break from fluid intake at night allows filtration to be maximized. If you are constantly drinking water your kidney function will suffer.

Dude, dark urine is an ominous sign. I've only had it a few times in my life, usually after waking up from a drug binge where I ended up passing out because I forgot to eat, drink and sleep for too long. Cloudy urine is fine in the mornings, but dark urine means that you're extremely unhealthy and/or sick.

We've got a generation of people who have neem drinking beyond thirst for a while now and as a result I believe kidney function and cellular hydration has suffered a loss which is why the amount of fluid recommended has literally started to double. Early 1900s it was found we need 64 oz of fluid, including from food. Now a recent study came out saying up to 3.7 L which is almost twice that amount. Excess water leads to electrolyte disfunction in the body among other things

when our ancestors were building the pyramids, they didn't have a bottle of water for each worker ready to be drank every half hour of the day. they relied on fats like oils goat cheese and olives to keep their day going without a drop of water in the desert. this was also true in different parts of the world. our bodies are well adapted to fats. water isn't necessary every day.

You are very knowledgeable, but I guess that it's better to clarify that the 3.7 liters figure is actually total fluid intake, not just water, so considering 0.7 liters from food you have 3 liters of optimal water intake for an average man. Anyway the minimum water intake to avoid dehydration seem to be lower, if I remember correctly it's about 1.5 liters per day.
