i love this plant so much i have 2 that are around 3 ft and 1 around 1-2ft theyre upwards so far, i put down some metal sticks to hold the 2 tall ones up and they are thriving about 2 feet of growth since i had them last july before they went dormant for the fall and winter, their growth is picking up currently and i expect another few feet of growth during spring and summer i absolutely love these plants

How tall can these get indoors? I have one thats over a foot tall that recently got its first offshoots. Any care tips are appreciated!
@WhatPlantisthatPaul Жыл бұрын
I would guess 3-4 feet in time. We have one that is about 10 years old and is like a hedge now. They like sun and don't like to be over watered. Let the soil dry out between watering.

Around 3ft tall before they fall over. If staked they will keep growing upward. The grow fast in the spring/summer. Just kinda forget about them.. they do better with less fuss. I have west facing windows.. I give a good soaking at night maybe every 2-3 weeks and they grow rapidly. I’ve cut the heads off and started new plants 6/7X in 2 yrs. Original plant was from ikea

I have one of these in my room. It’s been doing amazing for the 4 years I’ve had it but recently the branches near the bottom (where it is very crowded with new baby plants) have been drying up and falling off. The plants where this is happening the top is super green and vibrant, no other problems. I’m repotting it soon, so is it just too crowded and that’s the problem? Or is this normal?
@WhatPlantisthatPaul5 жыл бұрын
That doesn't sound normal in my experience. Is it too much water or not enough light? If you observe any rot, cut off the healthy part, let it callous over, and repot it. I have only grown this plant outdoors with good drainage. Good luck.

Oooh what is that purple and black plant next to your climbing aloe??

I think it's a very shiny black rose aeonium... I'll need to check, we have so many plants :)

Hello there! Would love your input as I've got 2 little guys sprouting out of the bottom of my climbing aloe. I'd love to remove them to plant in their own pots. Do I simply snap them off at the base and pop them in soil? Will doing so kill them? Any guidance would be awesome! Thank you! Great informative vids! - Johanna
@WhatPlantisthatPaul5 жыл бұрын
Awesome! I'd be patient and let them develop a bit until they reach 6-12 inches. Cut them off, let them callous in the shade, and plant them in well draining soil. Good luck!

@@Fahrdaris Keep it in shade and let the soil dry out. These plants are tough. In the yard, I water them every other day on drip and they do very well.

I have about a foot of empty stem and then growth on top. Can I cut off the top green part and put it in soil and then trim the dry bits and leave it in soil to keep growing?!
@WhatPlantisthatPaul5 жыл бұрын
Hi!, yes you can and it should do fine. After you cut it, let the cut callous over in the shade for a few days... Then plant it in well draining soil and water it once per week. The rooted 1 foot stem should sprout some new growth as well. Good luck!

Hi, I'm new to taking care of my climbing aloe and have some questions. I had some buds, 4 of them, off my main one and I cut them off at the stem close to the roots as possible. I didn't know I was supposed to let them callous over for a few days. So I immediately potted them and watered them. Is that going to be bad? It's been almost a week since I separated them but never let them callous. Sadly, also I think one had root-rot as it fell over and its stem right at the soil gave out and the whole thing flopped over. Is that one going to make it? What do I do? Thanks.
@WhatPlantisthatPaul3 жыл бұрын
I'd recommend pulling them out of the soil and letting them callous in the shade. This variety is less forgiving in my experience and needs to callous over before rooting, or rot will set in. I cut a few and put them in the soil last spring. We had a rain and all but one rotted out and died.

@@WhatPlantisthatPaul oh wow! Ok thank you! I'm so glad you have the answer. Thank you for getting back to me! Do you know How long I should let it callous?

Can you use this type of aloe?

I heard it's similar to Aloe Vera. I searched online and it seems to be used for skin care, hand washing, and more. www.researchgate.net/publication/283348154_Review_of_Aloe_Species'_Medicinal_Properties_and_Bioactive_Compounds

If you cut the tops out of those it will go crazy making baby every where. Stick the tops back into soil and theyll root too.

@@maristella8367 Put them in the shade until the callus over. They will do fine if you keep them below freezing.

Moni Taylor Many of the Aloe species are used for medicinal uses, I’m not sure about this one. The most common Aloe is Aloe Vera.... we have some in the yard and use it for sunburns and scrapes. 😀
