You have no idea how timely this video is for me! Oddly, I’ve been struggling with my own cat painting recently. I started the painting shortly before my sweet kitty passed away, and now that she’s gone and I need to finish the painting, I am TERRIFIED of messing it up. There has been lots of crying every time I make the wrong brush stroke. It’s gotten to the point where I’m afraid to touch it, but I also can’t leave it unfinished, and now it’s just this huge ball of artistic insecurity wrapped up in grief. Anyway, you’ve given me some new hope that I turn out a painting I’m proud of. At the very least you’ve inspired me to keep trying.

I LOVE that you kept his boots as his actual cat feet. And the occasional appearance of peekaboo color in the background adds energy and movement. His face, expression, attire, character hat, and colors... really excellent. Wasn’t sure if you were going to put a dripping paint brush in his other hand (paw) as if he was wildly slashing color against the background, the way he’d use his sword.

Funny how painting is full of surprises. At one moment it seems to go nowhere and one feels despaired ; the moment after, something clicks and we're feverishly back in the 'flow'. Everything is always evolving. We artists have an important role in helping the imagination world to evolve too. I make fairy houses. It is my calling and passion. AND I am in awe of watching you paint. The purpose of practicing skills over and over and over is so that you are no longer held back but can move and flow WITH the creative inspiration and bring something fresh and new into the world, even if it is a well-rooted concept or character we all thought we knew. Everything is evolving; birds, bugs, humans and galaxies. We artists (and mothers and gardeners and anyone who helps things grow) is part of that primordial process. Thank you for sharing yours with us! I would love to see you do a portrait of Pallas Athena. She is ready for her make-over! ❤

Since graduating college, I've stayed very busy on my sculpture portfolio and commission work. The past year or so it has felt like "only work"; I was avoiding picking up my tools and I was worried I was losing my love for art. When I started watching your videos a couple weeks ago, I realized the problem was (very obviously) the fact that I haven't done any art "just for fun" in four frickin' years. Dumb, right? I fixed this by doing a fan-art painting of my favorite photo of my favorite band. And now I'm having fun again. Thanks so much for helping me get out of my shell to put things back in perspective :)

I really love the strong yellow/ochre vs blue/teal color scheme you chose for your Mr. Gestiefelte Kater!! I also really love what you said about tapping into the mindset of being a creative kid and just feeling pure excitement for making things, and the way that our motivations for making art change as we get older. I definitely feel most creative when I can get back in that excited and inspired state, where I see others' works and think, "oh!! i love the way they [rendered this lighting/designed this outfit/drew this hand/whatever]-- what if *I* tried to do something like that?" It's nice to hear I'm not the only one who returns to childhood to remember what uninhibited inspiration feels like.

It came out “purrfect” 🐱🙌 As an adult I love how the fairytales/fantasy style brings a nostalgic feeling. On another note, at 9:20 the modern/minimalist art you showed caught my attention. Thank you for sharing this and I really admire artists that can play with light and color as you do! Changing the background was an excellent choice and masterfully executed, because now our hero really pops of the canvas! A character that I believe could use with a fresh breath of life, could be 'Hop-o'-My-Thumb' or as he was called back in 17 hundreds 'Le Petit Poucet' or in the English translation 'Little Poucet' about the youngest of 7 children of a poor woodcutter, who goes on an adventure and defeats a giant, or an ogre, whichever story suits best. Good luck to all people that share their opinion and thoughts, for a small chance to win one of these wonderful paintings!
