There's a funny irony to it. I'll never get over how so many people's definition of "toughness" is in reality supreme ego-tickling weakness. People paying out of the nose because they have some kind of FOMO, to be abused in the hopes of one day becoming an abuser (presumably that's the end game, to also become a screaming maniac that hoses other people down) isn't any kind of real strength of character, it's fragility.

My dad’s a former SEAL and had to go through intense training. He was a SEAL for 4 years as part of a college scholarship deal. It was only when I was like 20 did i woman up and have the courage to tell him to tell his inner drill instructor to take a hike. I genuinely wish he was more emotionally available when I was growing up because our relationship absolutely sucks as of now. I take after him in a lot of ways, and I cant explain just how frustrating it was that I would set aside my pride long enough to have a conversation with him and open up to him only for him to turn around and mock me. Maybe thats just my first-born daughter energy kicking in, feeling like I have to hold it together because no one else will. It really sucks. My advice to parents is: Don’t mock your children when they pour their heart out to you, and certainly don’t subject them to 75 hours of torture. Hell, don’t even subject them to 1 hour of torture. You’ll mess up as a parent, because we all mess up as people. Tell your ego and pride to take a long walk off a short pier, get your head out of your ass, and *apologize.* Apologize when you mess up. My dad’s hardly apologized for anything, I can only think of one instance off the top of my head, and my mind can’t even humanize him if I tried. He seems more like a robotic drill instructor.

The transformation from civilian to Marine is hard to explain for me, personally, but bootcamp teaches you to appreciate the shit that you take for granted, to struggle through the physical and mental turmoil, to help your fellow recruits/Marines/teammates/etc., to be more courteous, and to be the best version of yourself. No meal plan, no personal trainer, and no results, which the advertisement promised over and over, stressing how different it was. I dropped it within a month even after trying to give it my all. There are courses that teach you how to be handy around the house, where the person learns DIY stuff, general plumbing, how to fix things, etc. That could actually be profitable for people who didn't have a father figure growing up who taught those things, and it doesn't cost anywhere near $18,000. They could pair such a course up with some books or even other courses on economics and money management. Maybe learn how to cook and how to do all the other little things that make someone self-sufficient. That should cover the superficial part of being the "man of the house". But, obviously, being a man/husband/father is much more than that. You need to be reliable with everything. This "program" looks like a grift that doesn't teach anything meaningful and long-lasting. Frankly, one of the best investments you can make if you are not confident in your abilities in being a reliable adult is buying a book on critical thinking. At first blush it doesn't seem like it has a direct connection with the subject in question, but if you're kind of lost right now, it might lay a solid foundation for you to take steps into the right direction. Just "trust me bro" on this one and buy a book on critical thinking.

What makes this extra sad and depressing is that, according to some of the other videos covering this that I’ve seen, most of the guys at these camps are there because their dads, uncles or other male guardians sent them there. They were so afraid that their kids would grow up to be nerdy, gay/trans, whatever that they paid $18,000 to send them to some wannabe boot camp that doesn’t teach them anything except what it’s like to be wet in different places at different times of day

Idk, the clips I saw of those dudes they all looked over 18. At that point no one is sending you anywhere against your will. And if you allow that then maybe you do need the "alpha" training. Lol 😂

What's sad is all those special ops guys I followed long before they did this and I looked up to them. If these men want to be this don't pay all that money. These men instructing that course didn't pay nearly as much as these kids. In fact they didn't pay any money at all. Shame on them for stealing all that money.

3:40 I love that the guy getting yelled at is actually *significantly bigger* than the guy who’s yelling. I would love to live in a world where the guy getting yelled at was a real alpha male, and just kicked the crap out of that wannabe drill-sergeant.

"Don’t give yourselves to brutes, men who despise you, enslave you, who regiment your lives, tell you what to do, what to think and what to feel. Who drill you, diet you, treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder. Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men - machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines! You are not cattle! You are men! You have the love of humanity in your hearts. You don’t hate. Only the unloved hate - the unloved and the unnatural." - Charlie Chaplin

Thanks for the reminder of that talk, I used to listen to it often until it made me cry. I was a former soldier and then a psychedelic dude so I'm much more into love and growth but both helped me see how people are easily led astray by con artists. I was too. Charlie Chaplin really had something important to say there.
