I've been working with youtubers for the last 5 years on graphics / animations / designs as my main job and the succesful ones have had multiple channels for a while, between 3 and 6. Some are clips, some are full gameplay no edits, some are translations in different languages. It's a smart move that has been around for a while.

I'd definitely be interested in hearing more of how to do this type of thing with gaming content. With the notion of "Have an idea before a stream for content", I have no idea how you could segue that into a gaming stream. Most clips/shorts I've ever gotten while streaming was just the random oops or funny moment, which are nearly impossible to plan. So, I'd love to see more ideas of how to do this type of thing with Gaming content.
@HeronHQ3 жыл бұрын
What about having a tutorial/guide or review section for the game you stream? Depending on the game type there will be questions from chat anyways what you'd recommend. Take those questions and prepare yourself a scene to answer them in an appealing way. A few examples: - what tanks do you prefer in World of Tanks/War Thunder and why? - what role/character to play in overwatch? - what factions/strategies are your favourites in Age of Empires 4? - how do you like game xyz and to whom would you recommend buying? - introduce your viewers to a game that means much to you personally. - what's your best strategy to farm xyz and showcase/analyze it - etc.
@capp003 жыл бұрын
@@HeronHQ I already do a ton of tutorials and guides, as well as lets plays, on the youtube channel.
@HeronHQ3 жыл бұрын
@@capp00 I don't know you, sorry. You asked for ideas but turned em down instantaneously. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I don't watch lps on yt anymore so I'm not your target audience. But I feel that lps are not that kind of content that helps anybody grow that much on yt anymore. Every viewer starting to watch your gameplay might lose interest eventually. Maybe because their life changed, they lost interest in the game or whatsoever. But you will do content and release on a regular basis even though numbers become smaller. Why not play onstream and upload those streams to a lp channel afterwards, while using your main channel for easy to watch videos that don't belong to a series one should watch from the beginning? If you stream 4 hours a day, you can easily plan them out to have x amount of time explaining stuff, y amount of playing stuff and z amount of showcasing stuff. And if you rely on game servers to be up while playing, having alternatives at hand to be streaming if they're down can become handy, too. Taking 7 days to die as an example: Why don't you showcase different builds you came up with of how to easily build efficient or kind of stupid but fun zombie traps with a twist that might be hilarious? Or tell your audience something about the history of this game or take your time to speak about the direction this game should be going in the future. "I'm doing tons of x anyways, that's why I don't need to think about it anymore." sounds like a fallacy to me. You maybe right, but what if it's not about changing what you do but how you do it? Anyways, have a good day! o/

@@HeronHQ Sorry, I didn't turn them down, just that I"m already doing those kinds of dedicated videos on the youtube channel. And I typically don't stream the same game on twitch that I play on youtube, because I need variety in life :) Wasn't trying to "shoot your ideas down". Was just referring to Harris comment in the video. He mentioned having an idea before the stream and then hit that idea. Often times, when streaming a game, It might be the first time ever playing it, so planning on what to try and do/show is impossible. And often times, the tips given for ideas, doesn't work for video game channels. That's all.

I’m a music streamer on twitch (and KZbin). I think you are spot on with having a plan to make a part of your stream be standalone. It is just so logical to use that time and set up as essentially recording time for your next video on KZbin. Excellent video as usual. You are great at what you do!

In terms of short-form videos (Shorts/Tiktoks/etc.) - the "full video at X" tends to lead people into bad directions (too many small creators interpret it as cutting an interesting part out of a longer video solely to drag to a new video, which is bad - since it prevents the hook from spreading), a more effective redirect is a standalone short with "find more at X" - but yea, double-dipping content when possible is 100% a great goal to be going for. For those wondering how to "plan what you're doing on stream" - a really great basic way to do it, would be to plan a roughcut of a tutorial or plan a playthrough with a roughcut of a review - these are both fairly basic content types that are easily made on stream, and then repurposed into content. As you get more experience, and experiment a bit, you'll find a lot more templates that work for you at double-dipping this kind of content. And, if you learn your recording setup, you can multi-repurpose some content as well - doing a tutorial? you can also use that background footage in a review, you can use that background footage in a top 10, you can use that background footage in a comparison video with something else - so not only is that stream content being repurposed into more succinct videos in and of itself, it's also cutting down on the workload of your non-streamed content as well.

100% some of the best advice most streamers need. I went the exact opposite direction though - I started with videos, and my perfectionist brain makes 5x more speaking mistakes when recording a video than when live. So, I converted the topics I'd make videos about into streamed-essays and discussions - IE. Reviewing an Ocarina, discussing a topic about creativity, and then gaming. One stream would typically have 2 planned 30-minute topics, and I would get 2 10-20 minute videos + 3-5 shorts per 2-hour stream just by optimizing planning AND execution. And each video's performance is just as good (if not better) compared to when I didn't stream at all

This is good advice, of course. But it's also being made to sound too easy. "Just do this and grow", "just plan your stream around making extra content and grow". As someone who has a full-time job and a family to take care of, this is nearly impossible. With an already limited time to stream, those 5, 10, 15 min extra adds up a lot during the week. And then finding the good parts in your vod, editing and cutting it takes up even more time. Also, these people can afford editors and other people to help. Why wouldn't they have multiple channels. Like I said, it's good advice and it might help to get you noticed. But not everyone have time to do it. But to all of us out there having fun with streaming etc, good luck!

I'm getting REALLY comfy with turning streams into good content. My problem is editing, and focusing on editing. I swear once I get medicated (ADHD) it's OVER. The biggest turnoff for me if TikTok's scaling for iPhone 11+ displays (zooms to fill screen, cutting off the left and right sides), and how it messes up my edited-in assets. I've begun just making my edited TikToks in 19.5:9 aspect ration for iPhones, which 16:9 devices will just zoom out a bit, or cut off the top and bottom a little. Jokes aside, I've begun gathering obscure VHS tapes and watching them on stream with everyone. There are tons of funny moments, but usually the content on said tapes stir up some really cool conversations. We watched a documentary on the 60's, full of firsthand video from major events in American history, with almost none of it happening through the lens of nationalism. It started a conversation about how many of the same issues plague America today, exactly as described, without the distortion of rampant nationalism atop it all. I don't avoid politics, and encourage discussion, so we all had a pretty decent time going over it.

But what about those of us that don't want the same content on all platforms? I've started a YT channel with very different vibes to my twitch. People always talk about "diversifying content" but reposting the same content doesn't seem very diverse to me. Love what you do Harris. Even if you hate cats ;)
@TheRealAlpha23 жыл бұрын
While I take issue with some of what he's saying, I think the point of having content on different platforms is to give people a sampling, or at the very least the people who aren't watching your stuff on say KZbin or Twitch, a chance to catch it on Instagram or Tiktok because that's the platform they frequent most. You gain a following on that platform for the same content... Unfortunately that 5-10 minutes for his editor is more like 20-30 minutes out of the day per video for regular folks without editors, time that could be spent making more content that we already have enough trouble making if they arent already doing it full time.
@TheCrimsonCountessJinxie3 жыл бұрын
@@TheRealAlpha2 Yeah I 100% get that. I'd probably add those little samples to IG/TikTok (even though I hate the platform) or Twitter but would try and keep it away from YT as it's not the style I'm going for. I don't think you can go into any type of content creation with the goal of making money or becoming famous. Whether you're a streamer or a KZbinr or even a social media influencer. You have to do it because you love the creativity that goes into it. I think something a lot of content creators struggle with as well is they make content that isn't who they are. They see top streamers and KZbinrs and want to mimic their style because it's obviously been successful. But if you're not being yourself and playing to your personal strengths when making content not only will it be hard to grow, you're just not going to enjoy what you do. Sure if you have an acting background, maybe you can do this. For me? I can't. I'm just myself if my live streams and in my KZbin videos. When you're a small creator, it's probably not you're full time job anyways. So sure, if you've been able to support yourself with content creation and you need to switch some stuff up to match the trends so you can pay the bills, go for it. But when you're small this is the time to start figuring out who you are on camera or on stream. I don't have a ton of experience with the creation side yet, but the creators I like are relatable and nothing feels forced. That's what I think everyone should try and emulate. Once a viewer picks up that you're just trying to snag views, it's a real turn off.

I totally agree, when I look at the first 4 or 5 comments on this video and see all verified checkmarks I have to start wondering if this guy with the fancy hair and specifically constructed streaming room is even meant for me to be watching. No offense to him, it's clearly working out for him, but there's a missing link situation here where most of us are still hitting things with bones and he's using heavy construction equipment.

I wish there was a way to have groups or something. As in, I want to keep everything on one channel but have different kinds of content. Almost like 2 or more channels under one roof - except I don’t want to make multiple channels, yeah.

Hey Harris, can you do an in depth video on setting up multiple channels on youtube? I wonder how hard that would be. Would that require me to hit the monetization threshold on each individual channel?

What is the best editing software would you recommend? I would be interested with uploading videos as I slowly start streaming, but I’m not the most tech savvy and just wants a free basic video editor to cut large VODs down, add some transitions here and there and maybe some text too

0:20 - If KZbin fails to introduce play-list level (un)subscriptions and analytics - allowing content creators to diversify without hurting their existing pillar(s) of content - then yes, what you say will come to pass. If KZbin 'does' improve its platform to be a little more consolidation friendly - then no - we won't see so much of what you mention at this point of your video. They are unlikely to as KZbin is very comfortable with most content creators remaining below their arbitrary thresholds for YPP. 5:10 - This is where you speak of what I call bandwagon-following - the unspoken open secret to succeeding on KZbin. Identify the updraft and ride it. Identify the host and latch onto it. Hyperbole a facial expression, mention a celebrity and talk about a saturated topic for a few minutes. Not every person has the stomach to do it and that would be OK if KZbin didn't heavily favour such 'content'. If I sound tilted it is because I am (and not at you - 0:20 sent me down a dark path).

SHORTS may bring subs but they literally bring zero revenue. They also hurt your long form content.

I read online Twitch viewership is down 20% since May. Dont know if thats true or not but I would like to hear you speak more on why the big viewership drop happened.

Probably because several large streamers have left to go to another platform.

Great video! 👏 Sadly for me though, I created a second KZbin channel dedicated to shorts (84 of them since September) and didn’t really see any growth. All the clips where good/badass moments from streams but, it didn’t get anywhere (even with editing/tags/etc), and I would put hours into editing all of them… I’ve since deleted the second channel & put all of my shorts on my main channel, but it seems like everything I do doesn’t help. I create content, I have a streaming schedule, I engage with the few viewers that come in and I don’t see any growth. Probably wasn’t meant to do this then 🤷🏻♂️

Have you tried to put your shorts on TikTok, Twitter or Instagram instead?

@Winter Hill V • I have! 😃 Even so, not the growth I expected...I'm not trying to sound greedy when i say this, just ambitious 🤔

Twitch isn't easy to grow on, what's crazy is as a small streamer myself I've had more success on Facebook that I ever had on twitch

I'm also a small streamer/creator, and I get more views on a KZbin Stream VS a Twitch Stream. Haven't tried Facebook yet

THATS WHY NO ONE SHOULD ACCEPT AFFILIATE!!!! ReStreaming is essential!!!!!
@awesomeboss20203 жыл бұрын
@@koenignero I've never tried ReStreaming or Streaming on multiple platforms at once. I think Harris generally advises against that lol. I think he wants us to focus on streaming on 1 platform if we're trying to stream lol

@@awesomeboss2020 Kinda torn about restreaming. Devin Nash highly vouches it
@awesomeboss20203 жыл бұрын
@@monopolyn You can do that, I'm not the rule maker here! Lol I'm just following Harris' advice Personally, I already struggle a bit tryna keep up with the comments on KZbin Livestream Chat when I stream. It'd be even harder for me to manage 3 separate conversation chat boxes (KZbin/Twitch/Facebook) while streaming, but maybe what you do when you stream, would allow you manage all that. That's just me though, you don't have to listen to me, or do exactly what I do lol
@WhoopsyouGaming3 жыл бұрын
I knew all this already. My question to you is where to find an editor to get started? Does your editor go through your vod and chose the parts they think would grow? or do you just primarily send the clips over? Could be a combination of both. I'm also curious on how you what you guys recommend on using for sending and receiving files. Most people I've worked with have used Google drive.

@Alpha Gaming I'd love to see you guys take a no name streamer spend a few hours a week for like maybe a month and then track the growth and success of the streamer and their content and then truly show just how valuable you and your teams knowledge really is. Sorta put your mouth where you money is kind of thing. Don't get me wrong. I love the channel (s), the info you share the products your review. I love it all. Just think it would be a cool concept.
