After hearings about his early life, I’m surprised Hearst was so against Citizen Kane when it came out because honestly it made his story seem WAY more sympathetic & complex than it actually was. Kane at least was this tragic tale of a brilliant person who was given everything expect the things he needed and went paranoid searching for it. Hearst seems to have just been a spoiled latchkey kid that was slightly charismatic, but more importantly wealthy. His whole disdain for the elite seemed less like a call to change the system, and more like petty grievances over not fitting in with their social cliques. Even his achievements ring a bit hollow when you realize he basically just copied someone else’s idea and simply threw enough money at it till it eventually worked.

I vaguely remember seeing a fan video which took the frame of Citizen Kane, but made it Citizen Hearst instead - Hearst being the fictional character and Kane being the real-life figure. But Kane was at the height of his power while the real Hearst in our world had experienced some setbacks. So, Kane would succeed in not only destroying "Citizen Hearst," but also utterly discrediting and destroying the Orson Welles equivalent. The last scene of the video was the victorious Kane walking past a derelict who was the Welles character - totally lost. I can't remember where I saw it, and I don't see anything like it on KZbin, but I believe it does exist.

@theotherohlourdespadua1131

Harvard and other Ivy League schools are attended by the children of "Old Money" families that are more often than not modestly rich. Not filthy rich like Hearst, just rich enough to have a mansion and some property. Theodore Roosevelt is of the "Old Money" stock since he can trace his lineage to the Dutch settlers in the 1660's but his family's wealth can only get them to the top 500 families of New York City and not any higher...

An interesting tidbit about the Homestake Mine is that nowadays its occupied as a scientific research laboratory called the Sanford Underground Research Facility, working primarily on neutrino detection about a mile underneath the ground. There are still so many precious minerals in this region (Northern Black Hills, SD) that there are active mining explorations starting every other year.

Mark Felton recently published a video that implicitly suggests two alternate history scenarios and I’m thinking they might be worth exploring. 1. What if Herman Göring was removed from his posts and executed for treason at the end of 1939? 2. What if Herman Göring removed the aspiring Austrian painter from office and replaced him again at the end of 1939? Dr Felton suggests Göring was aiming for a peace treaty with the allies but you shouldn’t consider it set in stone for the second scenario.

"Old Money" families aren't really very rich, their elite status where more often than not established due to family lineage and historical provenance. Take for example the Lees: despite being poor for most of that family's existence, its status in the Virginia state elite remains due to the prestige of its members like Harry Lee who fought in the American Revolution and Robert E. Lee for fighting in the "War of Southern Independence" to the bitter end...

What if Spain colonized Australia? What if France colonized Indonesia? What if Europe converted to Mithraism? What if China converted to Manichaeism? What if Mazdakism was a prominent religion today? What if Southeast Asia was Zoroastrian? What if successful Huguenot colonies were formed in the Americas? What if Ancient Carthage and Ancient Egypt industrialized with support from an already industrialized ancient Greece? What if a Lydian Empire emerged in Anatolia and industrialized? What if Ming Dynasty China wss Electrified first in history?

Great video as usual (always interesting to hear a good rags to riches story however I feel that the more accurate ai generated background pictures, lessen the comedic effect previously exemplified by the creative use of stock stock photos, as their contrast with your art and characters lent a very persistent charm (compared to the relative bland look of ai generated art) epically with the cuts between stock photos often creating a great comedic effect (especially with the previous episode about America’s first cross country road trip) However I’m just a commenter and you’re the person who actually put in the work and knowing how hard you work on your videos I can appreciate the use of the new ai art approach if it was intended to save time and your sanity as you continue too feed our unending alternate history fix. Hope this comment reaches you, best of luck to you.
