What if Hitler honored the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact? The Soviets built the first nuclear bomb? The Soviets did not join the allies in WWII, but formed a dually hostile alliance in a Sino-Soviet Pact? Hear me Cody!
@ChiefCrackola9 жыл бұрын
+The Adamant lets say the Soviet and German Forces won the WAR, New tension would build Between Fascism and Communism, it would be like the cold war except Democracy wouldnt exist. As for the Soviets building the first Atomic bomb, Chances are 0 to none since Germany had the upper hand developing new military hardware such as the Horten ho 229. So in short, Germany would have made the first atomic bomb since the soviets were a bit behind. If the soviets did not join the allies in WWII, Then back to your first question, they would ally themselves with the Axis or just be Nutural. For the last statement, i dont know what to say sorry. Hope that this was helpful XD
@Tytoalba7779 жыл бұрын
+The Adamant If Hitler didn't honor the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, well 1st: He'd probably be able to at least try a full scale invasion of Britain since he wouldn't be directing resources east (whether this would have been successful or not is a different story), and 2nd: the Soviets would probably invaded him back (again, whether this would have been successful or not is arguable) If Soviets built the first bomb, well I don't think things would have changed in the long run. Soviets didn't want to continue on to invade the West, they already suffered enough. Maybe the most that could have happened is greater Soviet influence on Japan, so maybe Japanese history could be different.
@danuk5009 жыл бұрын
+The Adamant I thought the Soviets were preparing to attack Germany a few months later anyway?
@Tytoalba7779 жыл бұрын
RedWings01 That's not necessarily true. Most Soviet generals were concerned that they weren't prepared for war against Germany at that time, and I'd argue that the main thing that saved the the Soviets was 1: Allied aid (which probably wouldn't happen) and 2: a sudden burst of Patriotism (having a sudden, unjustified attack has been shown time and time again to unite the defender rather than tear it apart). I'm not going to say that the Soviets would have lost, but I don't think it would have been a quicker death for Germany
@redwings01429 жыл бұрын
James A Clouder true one of the main reasons the soviets survived the initial assault but just looking at the pace at which they forced the germans back it stands to reason that if the soviets attacked first the war would've ended sooner. though due to a number of factors the germans could've put up an outstanding resistance it may not have made much of a difference

The Americas would still be colonized. Not nessessarily by Europeans, but someone would have done it. The Native Americans still lacked evoultionary defenses against old world diseases. So 95% of the population would still die at some point, leaving it easy as hell to colonize. Because the native population was constantly dying, in order to effectively colonize it, you would have to import large numbers of people from the old world. So just like in our timeline the Americas would be filled with people from the old world.

What would have happened if Saddam “won” the Iran-Iraq war depends on what would constitute a victory. Would it simply be territorial gains in southwestern Iran near the Persian Gulf? Or would it mean driving deep into the entire country? Regardless of how unrealistic. I’ve always been under the impression that the west’s (the US in particular) hatred for Iran was larger than the skepticism of having Saddam become The major player in the Middle East. I would be interested to hear the opinion of others. But I have always felt the US, UK, etc. would welcome the idea of the still fragile theocracy in Iran being driven from power. Even if that meant Saddam became the most powerful leader in the Middle East, and a much more powerful player on the world stage as a result. If the Iraqi military began to make huge gains into Iran, and the Iranian government and military fell into a state of chaos, would the west have gotten fully involved? I always picture the Iraqi military driving to Tehran, and the US influencing the structure of the new Iranian government. Saddam not wanting to govern all of Persia would take the southwest, and maybe an extended piece of territory along the Persian Gulf’s coast. While Saddam and the west orchestrated the rise of a new “puppet” government in Tehran. Whether that would be installing the young Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi as the new Iraqi and American sponsored Shah. Or some sort of elected secular “democracy.” Whose Prime Minister would be hand picked to keep Iran in line. Maybe even a hybrid of both.
@MohammedAli-un2ms2 жыл бұрын
If that whould have happend iran whould be in a state economicly like itself now with huge inflation but like iraq politically today. But saddam whould try to gain more influence in the new state in iran and end up influencing arabs located in Iran. The Us whould want the Soviets to be far away from ever taking Iran so the Us starts funding monochist for democracy wasn't popular in Iran and the US whould arm they to fight communist in Iran. Saddam whould still try to take Kuwait,but not in a invasion but in a vote, he whould try to get Kuwaitis to say there iraqi so like in 5 years or so he could annex it. But Iraq whould end upp having more coastline that they have wanted to have for a long time and that's why saddam wouldn't enter Kuwait because he has the coastline that Iraq needs, kuzekstan or arabstan in this universe has alot of oil so Iraq whould come closer so Saudi oil trade numbers, saddam could have sold for cheaper because Iraq could hold itself without the Vass oil fields in kuzekstan.that whould end upp crashing some nations oil trade and make a dent in the Saudis and alot of nations whould start trading more with Iraq, the US whould whant Iraq to stop but saddam could just Staal the Americans and make Nato and European nations trade with him so the Americans leave him alone. The Kuwait economy whould have plummeted if Iraq started mass production of oil for now that Iraq has much more Oil fields in former Iran it has more people that whant to trade, Kuwait will see a form of pro ba'athist and pro iraqi movements and parties that are getting secretly aided by saddam. A puppet government like Belarus gets formed in Kuwait and Iraq starts getting its oil companies into Kuwait.

All this while maintaining America's political and military isolationism. The US was NOT commercially Isolationist. America minded its own business and defended its own borders, until the Japanese attacked. More than anything WW2 was more or less a MASSIVE jobs program, just when America needed it. If not for the Great Depression, American response to Pearl Harbor and so the Wars in Europe and the Pacific would have been far faster and more robust.

What would happen if the USA didnt nuke japan during WW2 but opted for the alternative full on invasion of japan?
@Alovii-819 жыл бұрын
There would have been mass death on both sides, from soldiers during in battle and the Japanese commuting seppuku, which is a ritual suicide of they are dishonored, which they would have been when they lost a battle and lands fell to the allies. I would estimate that Japan's population would be nearly halved because of battles lost and citizens commuting seppuku. So actually the abombs would result in less death than a land invasion.
@Duke_of_Lorraine9 жыл бұрын
+Anthony Long the war would also be longer, and with the Soviets attacking (the bomb was the excuse to surrender to only the USA... a better choice than also surrendering to the USSR), Japan would maybe have parts controlled by the USSR, or possibly all of Korea. So, more damage for Japan, a war more costly for the USA and the USSR gets more powerful in the region. Now, without the demonstration of nukes, sure the Soviets would take longer to take interest in it, but I hardly believe peace could have been held in the aftermath of the war, possibly very quickly triggering WW3. Overall I think the western block would have won (the USA had a fantastic economy during WWII while the USSR struggled very hard) but at what cost ?

@Alovii-819 жыл бұрын
Tecknitian Those same citizens and hundreds of thousands more most likely would have committed seppuku, like I said before as well. Along with both allied and axis soldiers adding to the death toll. Yea nuking a city is bad, and in most cases unnecessary, but in this case, the nukes would have killed less than a land invasion. And both senerios lead to a Japanese surrender.

What if Finland took part in the siege of Leningrad and Stalingrad during WWII? I mean, the finns DID actually take part in the siege, but there was really no artillery or anything like that coming from the finns, even though the germans insisted that Finland would aid them in their cause. If Finland had helped Germany to take over Leningrad, it would have had a possibly major impact, since Leningrad was a huge loss to Germany, who was stuck there for the winter.

Hi AlternateHistoryHub! I just discovered your channel and I love the videos I've seen so far. I was wondering if you could do a video about Snowpiercer. It's a 2013 film about how the world's temperature rising causes scientists to launch a cooling agent into the air to regulate the temperature. But instead of regulating the temperature the cooling agent freezes the entire Earth. After this the rest of the Earth's population is put on to a train called Snowpiercer. The passengers are divided into sections divided by their social status. The poor are put into the back of the train and are treated terribly while the rich are put into the front and are given many luxuries. This causes one passenger in the back to start a rebellion to get to the front and take over the train. It's a fantastic movie that I think you should check out. I was wondering if you could make a video about Snowpiercer to see what would happen if the Earth did freeze and people were put on the Snowpiercer and were divided into classes like they were in the movie. Would a rebellion actually occur or would something else happen?

Iraq very well could have won, if only (no offense to the late great Saddam) Saddam wasn't as stupid as he was. Just like Stalin, Saddam feared "Napoleonic" generals so extraordinary that they're a threat to his power. So, Saddam expelled and demoted many leading Iraqi officers, and took the war into his own hands. He -like Hitler- made an army group north, center, and south, and expected the whole line to be pushed back all the way to the Caspian Sea to encircle Tehran. The only problem was that the army groups north and center were instantly bogged down in the Zagros Mountains, forcing his army group south to make little gains in Khuzestan. It would be awesome to see an alternate history where he was smart and put only an weaker army group center, and an overpowered army group south, along with a two-front alliance with Pakistani dictator Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq who would invade through Balochistan. The Ayatollah would be squashed in this case.

Your military analysis is flawed as always. Iraq had FAR more potential to win this war than most people give it credit. Military analysts in the late 80's predicted that Iraq would have the won had the war continued into the 90's (and they made those predictions before the war had ended in mid to late 1988) because Iraq was killing Iran economically. There were staggering differences in both militaries and Iran's post-1979 military was vastly inferior to that of Iraq. Despite having the capacity to mobilize 6.2 million men, Iran's military was still a weak force, under-trained, under-supplied, poor logistics and poor leadership. Iraq's military by contrast could only deploy 2 million men, yet they had a better trained army and air force, they had tons of foreign backing including loans and financial aid but they also had really poor leadership, just like Iran. I have to hand it to Iran, at the start of the war they inherited the Shah's highly equipped army which had tons of state of art American equipment which was really new. Their flagship fighter jet was the F-14 and they also had several F-5s and F-4s. Iraq had Soviet tech at the start, which is absolutely top tier and excellent, but they had older Soviet equipment (the USSR, unlike the US, was reluctant to export its newest equipment, so the best stuff always stayed behind the Iron Curtain) like MiG-21s, MiG-19s, SU-20s and MiG-23s. All these jets are great in their own right, but it was outdated compared to the stuff Iran had at the start. Despite this, at the beginning of the war Iranian F-14s and F-5s were shot down in scores by older MiG-23s. In fact, by the end of the war Iraq had lost 79 fixed winged aircraft compared to Iran's loss of 234 aircraft (not including helicopters for either one). Iran's poorly trained militias died in scores. From 1982 until 1988 Iraq held off two dozen Iranian offensives. Iraq's Popular Army, which was made as a garrison and was far more poorly armed and trained than the Regular Army, was better equipped than Iran's Revolutionary Guards who were Iran's finest troops! Iraq maintained air superiority throughout the course of the war and made the War of the Cities one sided because they inflicted more damage on Iranian cities and infrastructure than Iran had done to Iraq. Whenever troops were brought to the front from Iran's major cities to the frontline with Iran's poor infrastructure, Iraqi aircraft would bomb them and cripple their ability to make more. Iraq also sought after much higher value targets than Iran. They bombed more economic complexes and supply roads, reducing Iran's ability to make war. By contrast, Iran's priorities are mostly in the wrong place. They seek out capturing geographic territory rather than primarily attacking Iraq's economic and military infrastructure. Iraq was able to create the world's first aerial blockade ever when they bombed the Khrag Island Oil Complex, which was responsible for 80% of Iran's oil revenue. They managed to prevent Iran from selling its oil, which was already being sold at below market price because of Iran's diplomatic and economic isolation post-1979. You mention in the video that Iraq could have won if they held on the defensive and bled out Iranian manpower. THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THEY DID! In fact, they could have won the war if it hadn't ended with the forced armistice in 1988. If the war had gone on to 1990, Iraq would have won for sure. If the Iraqis wanted to win within the 8 years of the war, they simply needed better leadership. Iraq's T-62s destroyed masses of Iranian Chieftains (God help them if they had met the T-72s!) and their older MiGs easily scrapped Iran's air force. Consider also that at the start Iraq was weaker, towards the middle and end they acquired all sorts of new technology which gave Iran an even harder time! They got F1 Mirages and MiG-25s later on in the war and even more foreign backing while Iran ran around looking for equipment from the USSR, China and North Korea to replace the massive losses they had suffered. By the end of the war, Iran's military had been reduced and had far more equipment at the start then it did at the end of the War. Iraq, on the other hand, was in a stronger military and economic position. They did suffer problems, but far less so than Iran and their military had more tanks and jets than it did at the start, unlike Iran. So in conclusion, your military analysis of this war is very poor and simplistic, but I am not surprised especially considering how many of your other videos share this simplicity and lack of knowledge of warfare. You said it yourself: "Saddam knew nothing about warfare" but neither do you.

I think one should consider the implications of the Arab spring, when discussing the future of an Iraq which would continue to be under the rule of the Baathist party. Whether or not Saddam´s power would be seriously shaken by the democratic movements(and potentially rebels) is uncertain, but he might be condemned by the US for suppressing them.

Iraq winning the war would probably have removed one of the major motivations of Osama bin laden. Iraq would never have been a threat to Saudi Arabia, never prompting Saudi Arabia to seek to protect itself from Iraqi invasion by inviting an American military presence on its territory. Osama bin laden hated America for its invasion as he saw it (amongst other things) of the Islamic holy land. But having said that Saddam Hussein was not sane and just as in our timeline his expansionist ideology led him into conflict with nato it probably would have done at some point in an alternative history too.
