Gravedigger: will the Hound return?

In Game of Thrones / ASOIAF, is the Hound, Sandor Clegane, really dead? Or does he live on as the gravedigger on the Quiet Isle? Will he return again to fight once more in an epic showdown against his zombie brother?
This video contains major spoilers for Books 1-3 / Seasons 1-4 and some minor spoilers/references for Book 4. The last part, which is preceded with a spoiler warning, contains major spoilers for Book 5. Basically, if you've read Books 1-3 or seen Seasons 1-4, you can watch most of this video without having anything significant spoiled. Joshy Song Hahahahahaha. Brilliant. I watched all episodes up to the end of season 4 and didn't have a fucking clue who 1/3 of the characters were. I don't have the time/want to read the books, so these KZbin vids have helped me to eventually understand what is going on. A whole bunch of my friends have just started watching it in the last couple of weeks. I've told them all.... keep an eye out for Littlefinger. He's behind pretty much everything. I had no idea what he was up to until season 4, I couldn't even remember his name. Yup... mind blown. Best show on TV.

Btw guys: For any history/geography buffs out there, the 'quiet isle' is almost definitely based on the island of 'Lindisfarne' in the north east of England. I went to a catholic school, and one year we went on a pilgrimage to lindesfarne. It is an island that you can walk to by day, but not by night once the tide has come in. More significantly however, it is home to a monastery. We had to carry a big wooden cross to the lindesfarne monastery, across the shifting sands before the tide came in, just like Brienne! :P In all seriousness though, GRRM has previously said that much of ASOIF was inspired by his trips around the UK, and in the north east of England; Lindesfarne is seen as a bit of a cultural & Historical landmark. Also, apparently the Vikings invaded it too at one point. Pretty interesting stuff.

So Jon Snow goes to tyrion and burns him with albino dragon fire then on his death bed, tyrion tells Jon that tyrion was Jon's long lost mother. Yeah... Maester Aemon gave Tyrion a sex change when tyrion was young, he was born a girl then Maester Aemon used Theon Greyjoys sniped off man parts and made Tyrion a guy... In the season which he supposedly was left for dead by Aria there was a round table extra feature for the dvd release that featured all the actors who's characters died that season(Oberyn, Ygrette, King Joeffery, Grenn, and all other major characters) . The hounds actor was not there. This is, in my mind, confirmation from the show that he his alive.

Sandor being alive would also create a nice symmetry with Gregor: The Hound was injured and died, but Sandor Clegane survived. He now lives at peace, free from his rage and hate. Gregor Clegane was injured and died, but The Mountain survived. He now lives(?) in a state of submission, free from any of his humanity. Both brothers died, but it's which part of them that died that counts.

I honestly don't see Sandor as being a bad guy. He's certainly not a good guy, but I wouldn't call him a bad guy either. Also, while Robb was heroic to some extent the thing that actually lead to his death was a lapse in honour (and judgement).

kuledinho I don't think he has found his peace. This is a guy who spent all of his life from age six telling himself he would kill his brother. He would not have a change of heart in a month (Or however long it has been) on Quiet Isle. He would also be representing the faith, so I don't think the monks would care. Kris K I think- and that's more my personal wish than any theory, that Arya will become a Faceless Man (or more a Woman) and be sent to Oldtown, probably to help Jaqen for his mission (if he really is the guy that killed Pate, but that would make good sense, since he never visits the House of Black and White) with the maester. I really look forward to the story part, especially because I think there is more to the Sphinx riddle that Alleras being Sarella- that is too obvious and kind of pointless to be the solution.

akrybion lol I'm still on book 2 trying to catch up. So most of the stuff you just said falls on my deaf ears just yet. Gimme a couple weeks and I'll get caught up. I just discovered ASOIAF recently so I'm a newbie. Although I have binged on all the TV show. Arya is my fave!

Cleganebowl could happen in one not entirely unrealistic way: If the monks are somehow bonded to the Highsparrow. It could go down like this: The Highsparrow gets sentenced to death for whatever Cersei comes up with, he chooses trial by combat, Cersei of course chooses Zombie-Mountain and the Monks send Sandor as champion for HS. Of course, they first need to explain why HS wants a trial by combat if he believes his fate is written by the gods, but the other points are rather plausible.
