Good advice to install over the pan. Only time will tell if the HVAC industry likes it or not. It’s certainly an upsell.

Something about PVC glue and primer I never knew until I read the directions. They said you apply the glue before the primer dries.

Thanks for the help on the Trane S8B. It worked like a champ, did what you said. Jumped G and Y ran yellow straight.through. Fan ramped up to cooling tap. Also thanks for the help on getting the condenser. This will become a regular thing as that property ages. Glad I can call on you when I need help.

If it’s mounted right outside the evaporator coil pan and the drain line does back up. You might end up with chlorine leaching back into the coil. I would worry that might cause refrigerant leaks.

cool product, but they need to add a gasket and some screws in there or something to prevent leaks. That would also make it able to be maintained each season...

My first impression of this video is your shop is beautiful. It was hard to see what a diamond in the rough it was back when it was a dingy, dirty body shop.

I think the idea is ok but I don’t like the idea of chlorine vapors getting into the coil. Not sure lowering it would prevent vapors from migrating to the coil during off periods. I also wonder if that block of chlorine will last a year in hot humid locations where a couple gallons of condensate a day is produced. Rev2 might make use of standard pan tabs. Ultimately condensate lines may have to go commercial made with copper at least the first few feet.

My issue is if/when they go out of business you wouldn’t be able to get those square chlorine tabs. It would be better to just make one out of pvc that those 1 inch hot tub tabs

It's certainly an interesting gizmo... I'll be anxious to see how the long term eval goes! The only snag is that being all glued together, if ya gotta take the thing out for some reason, you're kinda stuck with buyin' another one!

Seems like this should be mounted after the trap to prevent caustic chlorine fumes from entering the coil area. Not to mention the annoying smell. But then the trap wouldn't be getting any treatment..... ETA: This is some info I found from the site "The placement of the intake, outflow, floor, and directional vents of the Always Clear device eliminates vacuum induced hydraulic back draft and liquid back flow to the HVAC air handler. " So this addresses my previous concern.

I agree on the “over the pan” ahead of the trap, but could you use a little bead of window caulk to seal the lid but still be able to take it apart?

They could make the body of that a little taller, the water level would trip a float cut off switch before it could leak out. That is for a unit without a pan.

Does it prevent a clog at the outlet of the evaporator drain opening itself? I guess some tablets in the pan would help with that.

Any concern of having the chlorine potentially gassing off so close to the evaporator coil? I imagine they tested it thoroughly, but we all know what chlorine does to aluminum.

No kind of Chlorine should be used in a drain. The fumes will back up into the coil and rust out the coil and Chlorine leaves a white residue when dry up over the winter and clog the drain when the cooling starts back up for summer. Was also told Chlorine attacks the pvc glue causing the glue to fail

$99 for a kit with one unit/cartridge. Refills are $25. Made in USA The top should be designed with an O-ring inside and 4 screws holding down the top to the body 🤷‍♂️

if that chlorine tablet is the same as what they use in a swimming pool then maybe you can break off a chunk of a pool chlorine tablet when it comes time to reload it.

I watched the guys video. He states you need 5.5 inches to install this. My units are on stands in closets and drain to the wall behind them. The drain on both units comes out past the float switch and makes a 90 and another 90 to the back wall. One unit I have enough horizontal pipe but the other only has 4". I could do some wacky go out further and 45 it back but I think I will just stick with the tabs. My secondary pans are right under the stands and the condensate lines are beyond the pans so if the float switch didn't work I would have a nice flood. Thankfully in Florida both float switches have done what they are suppose to do. At least once a year despite putting tabs in every month when I change the filters both lines have clogged at some point. CO2 and or a vacuum always clears them until the next time.

That AC thingy needs some form of lock on its main part so that the feed doesn't pop open with attic heat or some force. Also, some type of a gasket to waterproof it to avoid leaks. If the two pieces can be joined together with screws or something and a gasket, rather than the way it is that pushed together.

There was an extensive scientific study done on joints done with primer and without primer. Everyone of the tests showed the joints were stronger without the primer. The primer actually makes the joints weaker. I've never used primer and installed lots of irrigation pipe and have never had a failure.

A Float switch on your condensate line would prevent damage. It seems like it is an okay idea using the chlorine but there's a couple negatives. It Is the cost and the other is that if you want to use a condensate water it's going to have chlorine in it so you can't use it for watering plants. I would also be concerned that the chlorine water does not backflow into your other furnace.
