@@lillytwo they don't come from vegetables thats for sure! they're seed & grain "oils"! Modern PUFAs and the amounts we consume today is unnatural & sick! We need to get back to what we eat before like Dr Weston A Price's research showed even in the 1930's!
@wp23123 жыл бұрын
@@lillytwo I agree with you, what worked for me for weight loss was a plant-based low fat, high starch diet (around 10-15% calories from fat max) with mostly vegetables and a bit of fruit, and cutting out meat and dairy (I also would have bread and pasta, although I'm starting to think I may have a mild gluten sensitivity, which would explain some things for me personally). I also stuck to around 2000 calories per day and always felt full. I think Mark is half right, in the sense that high carbs spike insulin, but it's the fat in the high carb meal that then gets stored as fat under those conditions (with probably the exception of processed sugar/high-fructose corn syrup which get converted into fat in the liver in a way that's unhindered compared to eating fruit, for instance). By contrast, a keto-style diet works for weight loss by using the fat consumed and stored in your body as your primary source of energy, instead of carbs which the body normally prefers, since for many people, it takes very little carbs to knock them out of ketosis entirely. The breakfast of champions he mentioned, for instance, is actually not normally low-fat, since it usually contains bacon/sausage and eggs with bread/potatoes, so it's actually probably around a 25-35% fat diet minimum in many cases, which a lot of "junk food" also happens to fall into. IMO the breakfast of champions is properly called such precisely because it promotes weight gain, i.e. muscle repair and tissue growth with its optimal macro ratios, which is important for any active, in-shape person. On the other hand, he's spot on about other points he makes like inflammation due to food sensitivities, genetic disorders like celiac's, heavy metals/toxins (which he experienced first hand), genetics in general playing a role, the microbiome's effect, etc. which can cause a host of problems, including weight gain or a higher base weight. For instance, we know that lab rats exposed to more antibiotics have a less diverse microbiome and gain more weight from an increasingly higher fat diet, so it's not hard to extrapolate from there that there are people with a similar problem that's no fault of their own. The same goes for people who have genetics that hinder their ability to naturally detox when they eat a lot of fruits/vegetables/etc. with high levels of antioxidants and chelators, etc. I'm sure there are also many of us who actually know people who went on medications who suddenly gained a large amount of weight that they never had their entire lives, and the only thing that changed was that they're now taking a pill or receiving an injection. There's obviously a lot more to it, but I'm just pointing out that I'm not a hater, I think he's excellent and the stuff they're doing where he works is on the cutting edge of medicine imo.

100% agree! At 50 years old my doc told me I had signs of insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome and on my way to Type 2 Diabetes. We looked at my diet. Relatively healthy by her standards. I was hungry all the time and had no idea how I'd find the willpower to eat less. On my daughter's suggestion I added healthy fats back into my diet as well as shunned and/or severly limited sugar, starch, and chemicals. 50 pounds down at 50 years old - eating foods that I enjoy. Now I'm 52 and at my happy weight of 70 pounds down. I'm happy. Doc's happy. Daughter's happy (she lost 55 pounds eating the same way). :)

I actually have been looking at what you are sharing and it sounds so doable and as well sound advice for so many people that struggle with spikes from sugars, simple or complex. Some of us just can't handle these choices. I don't think anyone can argue with whole food based diets. We all need to figure out what works for us and one that is sustainable. Not everyone is a young healthy athlete that can "Carb the * up" and thrive on high sugar diets or even high starch diets. Quality is another great point, processed anything is not as good as whole foods. We need to as well look at what we can sustain over time and as well what we as an individual needs to be healthy, stay healthy, we all have different histories and damages done to our bodies as well. I am very anxious to read your book when it comes out, as well looking forward to your summit that is coming up soon. I love the line up you have, anxious to see what some of the 100% plant based doctors have to say that you are interviewing. It does come down to a person's own needs and what will work for them to have their optimal health. I appreciate this and as well your no nonsense approach.

This I know, the more one eats, the bigger the stomach becomes. It stretches! Once stretched, if not FULL, it feels empty ... and wants to be filled up ... and sends messages to the brain that you're hungry. It's one reason why some folks can eat a ton of food, and actually feel hungry again shortly afterward. The stomach sends a message to the brain that, "Hey, there's a little more room here ... not quite full yet! Best solution to this problem .. DRINK WATER. It will fill up that "empty" feeling, and you wil NOT gain weight. Actually, you will lose weight. Blessings! :)

I tend to disagree with your thought. I think that weight gain and weight lost is learned. The only way that weight is not controllable is if you have a hypothyroid condition. Weight is dictated by hormonenal levels as well as diet. People want a wuick fix and if you neglect your body for a long time it will take twice as long to gain control. One of the biggest problems with diet and weight gain is education.

My husband had triglycerides more than double high normal. It’s a marker of metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance. We went high fat, low carb and within 12 weeks his HDL, triglycerides etc normalized and he lost his fatty liver and 26 pounds of belly. No longer hungry all the time, fat satisfies. It was hard to give up bread/pasta/rice /potatoes and sugar, but I said “we do this for 12 weeks and if it doesn’t work, we try something else.” For more than 5 years we tried, low fat, portion control, bland meat with veggies and salad and the biomarkers only got worse. Dr. Hyman knows what he is talking about. I love butter, cream and there are lots of low carb baking recipes. Baking, we never had it before but with low carb flours and no sugar sweeteners, it’s back.

One thing i don't understand is that there are high carb low fat diet people thriving as well. There are plenty of people who went on a higher fat paleo diet who returned to a higher carb diet because of difficulty. There are also people who were vegan and have returned to eating some animal protein. A lot of doctors claim a particular diet is the solution but not a lot of them talk about strengthening and cleansing of the various organs and glands (liver, kidneys, colon, adrenals) so we can digest the carbs fats and protein properly. Maybe if our bodies were working correctly and we are able to break down, absorb, assimilate and eliminate all macronutrients we wouldn't have to worry so much about how much fat or how much carbs etc. Also If you look at the world the only higher fat food sources are meat, avacado, coconut, olives, butter, milk and durian. Yes you can flavour these things in different ways but not exactly an abundance of choices. There seems to be many more sources of carbohydrates available in nature. Is that for a reason or just for fun! Sticking with wholefoods is a good first step for anyone!

The truth is found in whether or not the doctors are promoting supplements. If they are, then they should not be trusted. All they want is your money. The high carb low fat doctors don't. They are the ones to follow. It's a simple test.

I exercise 5-7 days per week, do a mix of both aerobic and anerobic activity, yet I am still starving. Any ideas Doc?
@BenjaminGessel8 жыл бұрын
+XbsnuserX Just a guess, sounds like you need to broaden your diet a little... Everyone needs more iodine btw (including me), eat your seaweed. Also, try more nuts/seeds, apples/pears, sweet potatoes, and different kinds of poultry/healthy meat, like turkey, bison, grass-fed beef, duck eggs, duck on occasion, and game meats. Pork on occasion as well. Also oysters, clams, that kind of stuff. Also, what happened to the veggies? Those nutrients in broccoli, spinach, kale, etc. really make the difference, if you eat enough of them... Make sure to get some dairy substitutes as well, like almond milk, if you don't do dairy.
@XbsnuserX8 жыл бұрын
I am sorry, I forgot to mention I eat 1 cup of broccoli with every meal. As far as iodine, I am on permanent T4 replacement therapy (a replacement dose of around 100mcg per day) so I do not really think that is as much of a factor for me. Regarding nuts and seeds, I typically have a negative inflammatory response due to the high omega 6 content (bloating, water retention, raised blood pressure, etc.) so I typically limit them to 1-2 servings of almonds max throughout the week (since they have the least negative effect on me). Pork does not typically agree with me, and I cannot really afford anything other than chicken and eggs (chicken is only $1.79 and 3 dozen eggs is $3 at wegmans and everything else is marginally more expensive, with the exception of ground turkey which is $3 per pound). I do treat myself to fish/sushi once every 1-2 weeks though to try and mix up my protein content though, without any of the high salt sauces of course. I do not know how I managed to leave all this out, so I apologize for the missing information. Going off of that what recommendations would you provide?
@BenjaminGessel8 жыл бұрын
XbsnuserX I should recommend a website I found VERY helpful/free/easy to use: www.myfoodrecord.com I really hate phone apps that are health-related, for the most part, and things you have to pay for, regarding diet analysis. This website is REALLY good for being free to use... World's Healthiest Foods is an OUTSTANDING general website: www.whfoods.com 1.) Magnesium is sometimes a mineral one can at times be a little deficient in, depending on whether one regularly consumes stuff from the chenopod family (spinach/chard/quinoa), as well as beans, seeds and nuts like cashews, which also contribute to magnesium, etc. www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=nutrient&dbid=75 2.) Vitamin B1 is another nutrient you might want to look at, but those oats you eat should take care of most of this stuff: www.healthaliciousness.com/articles/thiamin-b1-foods.php www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=nutrient&dbid=100 The B vitamins in general (along with stuff like potassium) do account for quite a bit, regarding feeling full, having energy throughout the day, etc... If I'm feeling sluggish, or perpetually hungry, sometimes it is simply a matter of including more variety in my diet, getting even more "brain" food, etc. Its true-fish/shellfish, red meat, berries, cashews and pistachios, these kinds of foods are more pricy than most foods, some are VERY pricy, but of these foods, fish (SALMON) and berries are the most important ones to include in one's diet on at least a periodic basis. Esp. berries. I ALWAYS buy lots of berries in the summer. Also, if one really looks into natural sources of all the nutrients, there will be times when one can see the dangers of being strictly vegan (and not have a doctor's/professional nutritionist's guidance), and ESPECIALLY the futility and extreme danger of being a fruitarian (good heavens...), and one will readily see the need for regularly consuming all of these kinds of foods: 1.) green/leafy veggies-brassicaceae, chenopods, asteraceae, etc., 2.) 100% whole grains (with emphasis on leaving gluten out when possible, dep. on the person), 3.) seeds/nuts (where one is not allergic to them), 4.) fish and shellfish/fish oil (tuna, cod, canned wild-caught fish/shellfish, etc. are some less expensive options), 5.) (organic) poultry/eggs, with a little grass-fed red meat here and there, 6.) avocados, olives, bananas, and starchy/fatty/calorie-dense fruits and veggies like carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, beets, etc., 7.) mushrooms, 8.) allium family (always cheap), 9.) fruit, esp. berries and apples, 10.) beans/peas/lentils, 11.) other veggies-the nightshades like peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, etc., also asparagus, okra, etc., and 12.) herbs and spices. Supplements and seaweed, etc. to round out the overall diet. No junk. :)

XbsnuserX I've also worked on some things in the past, regarding botany and nutrition, etc. You might find this useful-it is fairly comprehensive, a breakdown of various plant foods and what family/order, etc. they are in: 1.) Allium: Onion, Garlic, Leeks, Chives 2.) Brassicas: Broccoli, Cauliflower, Collards 3.) Chenopods: Spinach, Chard, Quinoa 4.) Asteraceae: Artichoke, Sunflower Seeds 5.) Asparagus 6.) Nightshade: Sweet Potato, Potato 7.) Apiaceae: Celery, Carrot, Fennel 8.) Cucurbitaceae: Cucumber 9.) Lamiaceae: Herbs 10.) Lauraceae: Avocado, Cinnamon 11.) Vitaceae: Grapes 12.) Rutaceae: Oranges/Citrus 13.) Rosaceae: Any (Apple/Cherry) 14.) Ericales: Dark Berries, Blueberries 15.) Grossulariaceae/Adoxaceae: Currant/Elderberry Juices, etc. 16.) Moraceae: Figs, Mulberries 17.) Myrtaceae: Guava 18.) Actinidiaceae: Kiwis 19.) Sapindaceae: Lychee, Maple 20.) Passiflora: Passion Fruit 21.) Oleaceae: Olives 22.) Musaceae: Bananas 23.) Bromeliaceae: Pineapple 24.) Cactus fruits 25.) Oxilidaceae: Wood Sorrel 26.) Palm: Dates, Coconut 27.) Annonaceae: Custard Apple 28.) Anacardiaceae: Mango, Cashew 29.) Fagales: Walnuts, Pecans 30.) Betulaceae: Hazelnut 31.) Fabiaceae: Beans, Peas, Peanuts 32.) Poaceae: Grains 33.) Malvaceae: Chocolate, Okra 34.) Zingerivbaceae: Ginger 35.) Myristaceae: Mace, Nutmeg (36.) Mycota: Mushroom) Of these groups, alliums, brassicas, chenopods, asteraceae, nightshades, apiaceae, cucurbitaceae, lamiaceae, lauraceae, vitaceae, rutaceae, rosaceae, ericales, oleaceae, musaceae, anacardiaceae, fagales and/or betulaceae, fabiaceae, poaceae, malvaceae, zingerivbaceae, and mycota make up the vast majority of my plant foods. In particular (for me): 1.) alliums 2.) brassicas 3.) chenopods 4.) asteraceae 5.) apiaceae 6.) lamiaceae 7.) lauraceae 8.) vitaceae 9.) rutaceae 10.) rosaceae 11.) musaceae 12.) anacardiaceae, and 13.) mycota, along with eggs/fish/poultry/meat, no dairy, just dairy substitutes (almond milk). Cucurbitaceae, nightshades and fabiaceae are all cheap, but I just don't eat a ton of this stuff. I'm not totally wild about fagales either, its an "on and off" kind of thing. Grains (more just corn, rice, not gluten stuff) are something I eat more just here and there. Honey is another great addition to a diet, so long as you're not diabetic, etc. Some of these foods/groups are more just in the tropics, and aren't really needed if you're getting a well-rounded diet. Aside from bananas, pineapple and mango, you don't need guavas, lychee, passion fruit, papaya etc., in more temperate zones, etc., that stuff often doesn't hold up well in transport anyway... Thing is, each plant family/group has certain trends, nutrition-wise, with them. Which its why its good to be aware of all of them/the nutrients that tend to be more plentiful in certain groups, etc. More on all this in a bit. Hope it is helpful. :)

XbsnuserX Regarding cost, yeah, the cheapest food families would be: 1.) allium 2.) fabiaceae 3.) nightshades 4.) cucurbitaceae 5.) brassicas 6.) asteraceae 7.) apiales 8.) chenopods 9.) musaceae 10.) rutaceae 11.) poaceae 12.) SOME rosaceae 13.) SOME mycota 14.) actinidiaceae Oleaceae, lauraceae, lamiaceae, rosaceae, vitaceae, mycota, the spices, fatales/betulaceae, bromeliaceae, asparagus, ericales, anacardiaceae, etc. this stuff tends to get into the pricier areas, yeah... I guess we all trust that these kinds of foods will always be there for us when we need them/if we are in a tight spot financially, etc., also to make our dollars stretch, family budget, etc.: 1.) bananas 2.) apples 3.) onions/garlic 4.) beans and peas 5.) potatoes and tomatoes 6.) zucchini, squash, pumpkin seeds and melons 7.) greens and sunflower seeds 8.) lemons and limes, grapefruit as well 9.) bread, rice, corn, oats 10.) button mushrooms 11.) kiwis 12.) eggs This is why, when I go for the stuff that is more than a buck or two, etc., I focus on the stuff that completes my diet, such as fish, berries, herbs and spices, cashews/walnuts/almonds, and grapes/dark chocolate-I must admit, grapes and chocolate are more like indulgences for me, but I love this stuff. Meat is kind of like this too, its great to have once a week at least.

I weigh 55.5kg no matter what I eat and how much I eat... Calorie-in-out theory failed me throughout this year..(I think it used to work during some periods of my life before) I did experiments with my diets, tried both 1000 kcal & 3000 kcal, neither change my weight..., I'm always hungry....always....even though I eat generous amount of fats and protein ...

As a T2 diabetic, the research led me to vegan diets BUT I was always hungry. Now I eat eggs and low fat yoghurt along with some salmon, almonds, avocado and coconut milk and I'm no longer hungry. Chicken, beef and lamb really hurt my liver and kidneys so I've had to cut them out. I also get neuropathy in my legs with meat, sadly. If I had to have a label, I guess I'm a pescatarian!

Wear a waist trainer or neoprene waist wrap.. 30 minutes BEFORE a meal. Eat quality proteins and vegetables. Stay away from foods that require your body to release insulin.. Avoid Foods like pasta, bread and muffins, cookies, cake etc. Etc. The waist trainers act like the Gastric sleve surgery putting pressure on the fullness receptors. Only eat 2 or 3 small meals a day..include 1/8. Cup nuts. NO snacking. It takes months of small meals for the stomach to shrink down to Its original size. That's why don't ever eat a big meal again, you'll stretch it back out again. After while you will naturally feel full with small meals.

I am a normal weight 28 year old woman who works out 6-7 times per week. Im not trying to loose weight or anything. Im trying to live a healthy life where I give my body the love and food that it needs. But even I have periods in my life when Im always hungry. Sometimes for a whole week sometimes for a few days. Even after eating a whole (big) plate of green lentil stew ( its a turkish dish with onion, olive oil, water and lentils) with a big salad next to it until I'm full i get hungry again after 15-30 minutes. So hungry that I feel starving. I've been trying to figure out if it is the type of food that I eat or if it is that I've burned more than I've eaten that day. Im not sure really. I would be so happy for response. Thank you for this page!
