The reason people thought tomatoes were poisonous is because when you mix tomato juice with the lead (thanks) which is in plates, spoons, forks etc. which gave the people eating it lead poisoning

At the time it was the height of fashion to have all of your utensils to be made out of a mixture of lead and other metals. Only the rich people had access to this and had access to tomatoes so when they ate the tomatoes the acidity of the juice caused the lead to run onto the fruit. This lead to people being suspicious of tomatoes as when the rich are it they died of lead poisoning.

It even made it's way to South Africa and during apartheid got it's own Afrikaans version, a teacher of mine once remarked she and her fellow female students where orderd to stand and sing it to the Kommando (basically the military town guard/militia) marching through her town, the teachers told her and the others to also shout to the men that they are the guy's Erika's and will give them many white children.

fun fact: the 1/3 vs 1/4 lbs burger thing isn't true. Or at least, its probably not true. A&W had exactly one focus group that incorrectly identified 1/3rd as being smaller than 1/4th, but even in that group it was only a handful of people. To be fair, it was around half of that very specific group, but it was just that one. They were just upset they were losing out to McDonalds and so they just declared Americans as too dumb to understand their marketing strategies. Its still there as the Papa burger. Also, at 9:31. In Norway we have preserved 3 viking ships, but we have discovered alot more. One ship in Rogaland was found entirely intact in the 18th century, but the farmer who found it used it as fire in his house instead of cutting down trees, Another ship in Vestfold was destroyed in the 1870s because the viking burial mound was halfway at where they planned to build a road, and instead of moving the road a few metres, the people in charge decided it would be better to use more time and resources to dig it away, so they wouldn't have to do that later......

Tomato, Potato and nightshade are in the same family of plant. And - Potato, while first discovered by Europeans in the 1500s, wasn't implemented as anything OTHER than pig feed - until the Prussians started forcing their peasants to eat it in the mid 1700s. weird how shortly after the potato becomes a staple food, less than a hundred years later, europe enters an agricultural revolution.... weird.
