I’ve always thought you had definite traits. I’ve got a family member who also tested very high and sees herself as fitting each category. To us all it means is that we are aware and adjust life to help cope. ❤

I worked nights for 40 years. The struggle is real. I’ve been retired since 2018, and I still have trouble going to bed at night, not sleeping, not wanting to get up til later in the day, etc. Has your doctor recommended seeing a sleep specialist, to have a sleep study? Maybe you have undiagnosed sleep apnea. Poor sleep, fatigue, depression etc are some of the hallmarks. I have it, and once I got on a c-pap, my sleep improved considerably. Now to turn my circadian rhythms around!

awww B is growing up! The photographers took some cute pictures of her! David, I know you've been working on getting healthy and running more. Perhaps doing your run late at night is affecting your sleep? I know I can't work out late at night anymore or I can't sleep so I do it in the late morning or afternoon. I also stop eating by 8pm so my stomach isn't digesting food while I'm trying to go to bed. It seems to help. Hope your sleep improves!

Here's a very similar example: a mom with three autistic kids finds herself in the same manner as the kids. I've learned something recently: if the children have autism, it is possible one or more parents also have it.

Yes, it’s possible. I am on the spectrum and my aunt and uncle have it, and my grandma.

Someone else I watch said "The most common trait that autism parents miss, is that it's (partly) genetic!" That really stuck with me as I'm trying to get my parents to consider taking these evaluations too. I think it's wonderful to know how your neurotypes relate or cross over in your family.

Something else that stood out to me too is if you have a kid with autism, the chances a second kid being autistic goes up to like 1 in 4. Clearly a genetic thing.

I took that test a year or two ago just for funsies because I'm autistic (diagnosed in 2018 finally) and my AQ was pretty high. It wasn't surprising in that I am autistic but I was kinda surprised (but not totally) just because I wasn't sure how legit this test would be (I'm used to those weird novelty tests on the internet like "what kind of vegetable would you be?"). I imagine it must be helpful if one suspects they're autistic because with more information being available now, people are able to see their lifelong struggles in other people's stories.

Everyone is different! And we like to have ways to describe and understand people! It is a spectrum for a reason! This was a very interesting video, to be honest I have kind of wondered for David. But I also wonder for myself, I feel like David and I are a lot alike haha, I also feel like Braylee and I are a lot alike in a lot of ways! I’ve looked into autism, worked with kids with it, and know a couple of people on the spectrum, but I have no idea how people tell for sure! I feel like if you learn something about yourself and it helps you understand yourself better, it is probably a proper diagnosis! But mostly, I just think it’s interesting how people are so different, but also how they can be so similar! We are so complex. Also, I do believe that social anxiety, ocd, depression, etc, are symptoms of unaddressed issues or for lack of understanding of one’s self. Where as being on the spectrum is just a different way of processing and experiencing the world around us. These are just the things I think about! If anyone is reading this, feel free to share your perspective! I think it is really interesting

I'm in Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 UK. I've just had an assessment for adhd through the NHS ( health care system in uk) and just waiting for the autism assessment which takes longer. But yes I did an online test before had and I scored really high for the autism.

It is a pity in the US that the cost of getting an assessment is a barrier. I would have gotten an assessment if I was in the States, due to my insurance while there. I am an American overseas. I was assessed for Autism after a years long struggle to even get to the intake assessment. I was asked in 2005, by a friend whose husband works with autistic children in at St. Judes. I took the same assessment and scored about what you did. Plus, multiple choice tests I can skew them easily to the answer I wanted. I was a woman, thus I could not be autistic. I let it go, and in 2014 when my brother got hit with a car and was in a coma, they had the family come in, and the social worker did an autistic assessment. He was, I need to say this was not what killed my brother, until years later. My mother calls me on the phone in the middle of the night here in the EU. She says, do you think you may be autistic, and I say ‘that is funny, you’re the second person who has asked me that’. She then said, if you are autistic than so am I. She tried to get an assessment, but her provider, said no, due to her age. So starting in the fall in 2014, I started the process with my doctor. She had to rule out seasonal depression. So a round of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, CBT, which I felt was lying to myself about what I was feeling or thinking, it just was not logical. I only learned that I was not perfect, because I could not brush each tooth perfectly, though I try. I stilled try to do things perfectly, which could lead to shutting down and not doing anything on projects. Two more years go by, and I am having depression in July, so definitely not Seasonal Depressive Disorder. Then, I have problems with my masters degree, and end up having to drop out. Too many doctors notes etc. The doctor finally asked if I would do CBT again, I told her it did not make sense to me logically to lie to myself. She then said, okay, I am sending you to an autistic assessment intake. Only problem, have to wait the maximum amount of time to get the assessment, else I could have gone to a private company. Believe me, they schedule with a day or two at most, of that time running out. I show up there, the assessor comes in, saying this will take approximately 45 min to 1.5 hours, just depends. I do know, that Dan from The Aspie World, said try not to mask. I do not when talking about my feelings, it is too hard to keep up a mask when talking to a health professional. She asked why I thought I may be autistic, and I launched into that I am easily taken advantage of. She reprimands me saying that is not a reason for a diagnosis. I then tell her I do not understand peoples intentions, and I get into situations that are very dangerous because of it. She asks a few more questions, of which I do not remember much of. Then 5 to 7 minutes in she says, excuse me, I will be right back. I thought I had blown the interview, and I would be shown the door. She comes back, I am already packed up with backpack in my lap ready to run before I break out in tears. She says, we have recommended that you go for a full assessment, you will get some mail, about the date and time of your assessment. Again exactly six month later, I show up for my first, then back a month later, this time I would be video taped, it was pretty much the same interview, but longer this time. Then that video went before a panel of total of nine professionals, psychiatrists with a few psychologists. She told me that I was on the spectrum, just needed them to come to a decision of where I was. I could just have ADHD. I came back a month later. I ended up with a trifecta, ASD/Aspergers, ADHD/ADD combo, and OCD. Was told because of my early intervention by my brother and head start, they could not diagnose the dyslexia. Even though when I am extremely tired, it rears its ugly head. So all in all, this happened from December 2014 through March 2019, so a bit over 4 years of jumping through hoops. I went on after the first intake, because without masking, my interests, monotone voice, and lack of eye contact, is what sent me further. It is really difficult to diagnose women, and usually they do not even make it to the second stage here where I live. That is why they need longer for the intake. They spend it trying to break the mask. Since, I was unmasked, and my interests were in the sciences, numbers, seeing patterns, and a visual thinker this got me further. These are traits they typically see in young males, even though I hate gendered biased traits. I wish you luck in finding a job, it is difficult, since a lot of job openings are just to gather resumes for non-existent jobs. I am a women in a male dominated field. Older than average, so it is really difficult for me to get my foot in the door.

My AQ score was 39 & my CAT-Q score was 138. I was diagnosed with autism last year. It's also important to note that I am AFAB trans genderfluid, and the notes of the AQ specifically says "The AQ is particularly sensitive in distinguishing between autistic and non-autistic adult females, as 92.3% of autistic females scored 32 or higher (compared to 1% of the control group)." When it comes to a test like this, I would fall into the 'female' category because that's my assigned gender at birth & how I was raised & how I presented the majority of my life (so far)

I never did that test before, but I have some little quirks like despising odd numbers, looking at my clock when I go to the park or any other place, I make sure I stay for exactly 3 hours and of if I go over 3 hours, I’m sort of in a panic, repeating things over and over again and thinking about those things as well. I’m also too self-conscious,but I still survive each day and that’s a plus..Anyway, Braylee’s class picture looks great as well as the other class pictures of her. Oh, and lest I forget..HAPPY BIRTHDAY,DAVID and many happy returns🎂! Hope you all are doing fine and God bless✝️🙏🏻❤️🙂🌈!

I can't believe I am leaving the first comment again. That was very interesting, David. I wonder just what it would mean to you if you are indeed on the spectrum. I wonder how many people take that test just out of idle curiosity and then find that they may well be autistic. I am in my 70s so it would be very shocking to me to learn something like that at my age, although it might answer some questions for me. Thanks for a very thought-provoking video.

I’m 58 and female, considering being evaluated for high masking autism. I’m curious what (if anything) you do differently since your diagnosis. If you’ve had success in de-masking, what approaches have you tried? I’ve had lots of CBT; not sure I can answer questions “honestly” by this point. If I answer as I would have in elementary school, I’m pretty sure I’d score as autistic. I’ve intentionally trained myself out of certain habits to the point that now I score in the “somewhat probable” range (or whatever they call it.) Sorry for having written such a long message 🤦‍♀️😂💐
