My mom is almost 91, she still drives, she's fiercely independent, lives alone. She still cooks, gardens, uses a wheelbarrow. She dresses to the 9s, dyes her own hair. She keeps up with the news and current events and affairs. She can discuss AI. This morning she wanted to know what a meme was, lol. She's pretty amazing. She's still a pretty woman too. I hope she makes it to 107. She has kidney disease and diabetes though. I hate to think about her no longer being here but also have to be realistic and that's sad.

My wife started with early onset dementia at age 55 passing at 62. We gave her keys that didn’t fit anything but she did stop looking for them. She said I should take her car to the mechanic because it wouldn’t start. So many things we had to improvise but we managed to keep her safe and in her own home until the end. Thanks for sharing your journey with your dad.🇺🇸🚒🐄

I just recently found your youtube channel. I am a retired RN, most of my career was working with those with dementia (skilled nursing, assisted living, memory care, and adult day care.) I just wanted to tell you how impressed I was with your family and the care your provide to your dad. It is a difficult situation, and everyone's journey with this disease is different. He seems very well cared for, and happy. You provide such vaulable information to other families who are on this journey. You have my 100% support in what you are doing.

Me too. Very impressive that his son is understanding and taking good care of his dad. I appreciate him. Many Americans have to see how children should take care of their aging parents. These parents sacrificed and did good jobs of caring for their children. In my culture, children are expected to take care of their aged parents unconditionally. This is the only way children can pay back. Not sending their parents to nursing home, forget their existence, and waiting for them to die. Thank you for sharing the videos. Many Americans and people from other cultures can learn from these videos.

My mother is 64, she’s healthy still working but retiring in the next two years. She called me last weekend saying how she was worried about being abandoned in her old age. In my culture we care for our seniors at home, I told her she had nothing to worry about that I would take care of it. Thank you Dan for being a great example.

My husband is 63 , he has the beginning stages of dementia/Alzheimer’s. He asks the same questions at least 10 times a day. He does out of the normal things all the time (daily). We just celebrated our 30 year anniversary last week. I can’t imagine my life without him. I’m learning patience. It’s definitely not easy because you don’t know what tomorrow brings. I don’t let him drive because he gets lost. We liv in the same town for 30+ years and he doesn’t remember how to get anywhere anymore. I’m glad to see your dad is so well taken care of. God Bless

Great-Grandchildren @ 60+ and 4). Great-Great-Grandchildren @ 80+ years old. That makes a 5 generation. I am happy for him. He is so blessed for having loving and caring children. Aww just found your channel….I’m a retired nurse who worked in an Alzheimer’s “rest home” we had patients that were in various stages…it’s good to see how you redirected your father when he was looking for his keys and getting agitated. I’m also glad to see you have him living with family. So often families don’t want to be bothered and put their loved ones in places like I worked and trust me they progress much faster than they would in being in a loving environment! I know sometimes it can be frustrating answering the same things over and over but you will never know how much you extended his life, providing a loving home and relationship!

Dan, you have come so far in dealing with your dad. I love when you are so patient with him and talk in a soothing tone to him. I know it must be so frustrating for both of you but I admire you so much for taking such good care of your sweet Dad.

Validation Therapy . Maybe be a wonderful thing to look at for all parties involved. I have worked for decades with dementia patients . Convincing rarely is successful . Often just aggravates all parties. Once I learned this my work ( live in) became deeply fulfilling and grew to be a joy. Still challenges but nothing like before. Wishing you all the very best.

Dan, you are WONDERFUL❣️ This warms my heart!!! You handled this PERFECTLY!!! I realize you and Danielle don’t need validation. But as a human being, I want to thank you with all that I am for sharing these beautiful demonstrations of compassion, empathy, and unconditional love. Your father is NOT demented. He is pure love consciousness. If the world was full of Ed Salingers, we would be healed. Thank you for shining your light!!! Sending love & light to your family and this community. ❤️💫❤️

I can understand how frustrating it can be on both side of the fence. It's hard to reason with a person with dementia. Best wishes for doing such a wonderful job !!!!

I think of my dad every time I watch one of your videos. My grandma, my father and everyone of his eight brothers and sisters suffered from Alzheimer’s. My Aunt Donna is the only one left. My dad would have been 99 this year and I miss him so much. At 58, I’m also starting to show some short time memory loss which frightens me. My love to all of you and thank you for taking care of your dad and having patience. It’s tough. ❤️🙏🏻

Aww, Ed is not demented but he does have dementia. It's tough watching him struggle and to see him suspecting he's not being told the truth. He's generally so nice and tries to remain polite even when he's really confused and frustrated. My ex husband, who will be 70 soon, is starting to show signs of dementia, it's scary. His mother had dementia in her 90s, it was sad to watch her decline. You do a great job dealing with your dad. The redirection techniques you use work pretty well. My mom will be 91 soon, she's doing really really well, knock wood. If her health declines I'll be her caregiver. I hope she doesn’t develop dementia. You're a good son AND you were, in your prime, evidently one hell of an athlete. ❤
