Great demo Alfie. Ironically today, both my daughters (13 & 15) wanted to each wear one of my Type O Negative zippered hoodies to school today (which they did). I remember at a show in Portland, Oregon when I was with Pete I said something to him like "Hey Pete, it's' just me this time. My wife couldn't come like last time because she's 7 months pregnant." And without missing a beat, Pete puts his finger in my chest and says "I had nothing to do with it." haha.

The problem is .. his tone wasn’t just those 3 pedals but the fact most of his basses had a sustainer built in that gave his distortion unique overtones and harmonic content . Something you can’t recreate with just distortion, chorus and delay .
@yvesheinrich50132 жыл бұрын
What if you use a sustainer pedal alongside?

This was great, I’d say that you got pretty damn close to Peter’s tone. This actually seems like it could make for a cool series, taking the bassists you’ve talked about on the show and seeing how possible it is to emulate their sound at a specific price point

To me it's close enough. Pete never had a tone I liked a lot (too digital) but I can instantly tell it's him. Excellent work.
@WhichBass2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Konrad, I agree, you can make it a lot harsher but it's not as musically "pleasant" this is close enough to get you going.

No one mentions the strings! One Key Element of the Type-o-Negative, not the carnivore, sound are the DR Strings Black Beauties Tapered 110 to 50 tuned to B. Try it out. Especially for the cleaner parts. Black No1 will sound like Black No1.

Mate you did it again another great episode Peter's episode was one of the best I saw but keep in mind that the pedalboard shown is from a Carnivore reunion in the early 2000s although Peter's rig is a lot more complicated than everybody think and thanks to you we learned many things that we would never have known, it is simplified very well in these 3 pedals thanks for the videos !!!!!!!!
@WhichBass2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bajo, it is a Carnivore pedal board but he used the same stuff in Type O too. You got it spot on though. If you want it simple, use those pedals!

2:52 - I took the picture of his pedal board at a Carnivore show in Essen, Germany back in 2007 when I was guest of the band. I am proud it pops up everywhere now, but I'm also a bit disappointed that some thought it was necessary to edit my name tag out of it, but there you go. I just want to remark that this isn't his TON setup, but the the one he used for small club shows with the second incarnation of Carnivore.
@chriswareham6 ай бұрын
He used the same pedals with Type O, but with a lot more amplification. He was a big fan of Peavey amps and cabinets although he switched the 18" Peavey drivers for JBL ones as they were a bit more robust.

Awesome demo! 😎🤘🏻🎸 and that’s a pretty cool bass you got there. Those Ibanez atk basses are killer sounding. And it’s pretty cool that you were able to get his sound from those donner pedals. Considering his setup is remarkably simple. I have some affordable pedals myself from brands like mooer, joyo, and caline and they sound incredible for the price. My brother and I are mooer fans and I have been thinking about purchasing a mooer ensemble queen bass chorus pedal. I’ve seen demos on this pedal and it sounds real nice.
