Johnny I think you have answered your own question by weaving climate change into your videos. From experience, making a video about climate change directly often just attracts the extremists looking to prove a point. Inserting the real circumstances of our climate INTO the already compelling stories you create is a fantastic way to communicate these issues without "making a statement".

Some feedback: personally, I almost always watch yt ad reels to support my favorite creators, but I know many don't, so you should still be strategic about it. If I were you, I would place the midroll a bit more separated from the sponsor, at least not after it. In my mind, most people would be far more inclined to skip when they just watched you plug the sponsor.

@udkc3 жыл бұрын
@@rambutketiak you're talking about sponsors. I'm just advising Johnny not to put the the yt ad reels immediately following the sponsor presentation, because that might make it more likely that people will skip it, which essentially means lost revenue. Hi Johnny! In your recent "China's Rush Into Africa, Explained." video at the 10:10 mark, you mentioned that you are working on a video about the conflict between China and Taiwan. This is an incredibly sensitive topic and because I am aware of the reach of his audience and respected reputation from said audience, I was hoping you might consider some of these points? You said that both Taiwan and China claim to be China. I understand that when speaking casually one would state things that way so I don't take issue with that when speaking on the fly. I have absolute confidence that Johnny is aware that it is the Republic of China that claims to ''be China'' . The reason why I think however when making a video specific to this situation and conflict is that we cannot neglect the percentage of Taiwanese residents who did not wish nor welcome the Republic of China to take over their island in 1945 when the Japanese relinquished their claim over Taiwan. What percentage of the Taiwanese did and did not welcome the Republic of China to take over at the time is something I have always been curious about. Virtually nobody, and I mean that seriously, nobody in Taiwan wants to fight a war with mainland China to take over the mainland. After centuries of being separated by the island, families have been living in Taiwan during the Spanish colonization, Dutch colonization, the Koxinga take over, the overthrowing by the Qing, the 50 years of occupation by the Japanese, and the dictatorship under the Chinese nationalists thereafter, the Taiwanese have adopted their own identity that is independent, and separate from that of Mao's China. Just like how there may be Americans who have Scottish ancestors, they may simply just refer to themselves as Americans when they are at home or when traveling abroad. Is there an ''American'' ethnicity? Is there a "Taiwanese" ethnicity? In a similar fashion, that is how Taiwanese people identify today, as just Taiwanese. Even though I personally identify as Chinese (of the Republic of China, not the People's Republic of China) - Taiwanese - Canadian. I personally think that specifying that hyphen, of being "Chinese-Taiwanese'', acknowledges the fact that not all Taiwanese people are of Chinese ancestral background. We cannot neglect the over a dozen aboriginal tribes that are said to have actually been the origin of other aboriginal tribes that have since travelled throughout Austronesia. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rH_Kqodnha-Un8U (turn on CC) I was born and raised in Canada, and was only exposed to one side of the political narrative that I grew up with. My grandfather was a veteran of the Chinese civil war. I think it is sad, a tragedy and a shame that when people today say China, they think of the People's Republic of China when they are the regime that has been responsible for the highest number of Chinese deaths than any other regime in history, including the Japanese. When it was the Republic of China that did the most to defend China from the Japanese. There have been stories passed down where with each battle the nationalists defeated off the Japanese in the mainland, the communists would wait and scrounge the ammunition and supplies as the nationalists went off to the next battle. By the end of the war, they had nothing to offer their veterans and had to turn them away; the communists used this as ammunition and said "See, look at how they treat you, you should join us instead, we'll feed you." The communists then went on to burn precious Chinese scrolls, books, art and artifacts that we will never get back. I curse that we will never see or know what was written inside. There is even rumor that Mao wanted to scrap Chinese writing altogether and start from scratch to create a new phonetic Chinese alphabet. It was their goal to see to erase the culture that was present and start from scratch to have Mao's version of communist culture be the only culture that was necessary. It is because of these reasons why I think it is a shame that when people think or say China, they think of them, when it was the Republic of China that saved what scrolls, books, and art they could get their hands on and protect them by bringing them to Taiwan. Another crucial point I would highlight about the US is that they technically only acknowledge that the PRC claims Taiwan but does not recognize it. "the United States of America recognized the Government of the People's Republic of China as the sole legal Government of China, but it only acknowledges the Chinese position that there is but one China and Taiwan is part of China. Within that context, the two sides agreed that the people of the United States would continue to maintain cultural, commercial, and other unofficial relations with the people of Taiwan. On this basis, relations between the United States and China were normalized." The use of the word "acknowledge" (rather than "accept") is often cited as an example of the United States' ambiguous position regarding the future of Taiwan. Regarding the political status of Taiwan, in the communiqué the United States acknowledged the One-China policy (but did not endorse the PRC's version of the policy) and agreed to cut back military installations on Taiwan. This "constructive ambiguity" (in the phrase of US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, who oversaw the American side of the negotiations) would continue to hinder efforts for complete normalization. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Communiqu%C3%A9s en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_Assurances www.thebatt.com/opinion/what-the-one-china-policy-is-and-why-it-s-time-to-ditch-it/article_9bcaf78c-f628-11ea-a9bd-cb630a421ccd.html Some fun facts. The Republic of China is the only Chinese government that has governed both in the mainland of China and Taiwan. The People's Republic of China has only governed in the mainland. While the ROC and PRC both claim to be China, only one side is threatening the other with violence to end the other. If that is the case, can we really say the Chinese Civil War has ended? The American civil war ended with the end of the Confederacy, but both the PRC and ROC exists and functions independently of each other to this day. The ROC was a founding member of the United Nations and one of five permanent members of the Security Council until 1971. Taiwan is the first country in Asia to legalize same sex marriage Taiwan is the first country in Asia to ban the eating of dogs Taiwan is the number one country in Asia for gender equality Taiwan scores 94/100 on Political Rights and Civil Liberties while China scored 9/100 freedomhouse.org/country/taiwan/freedom-world/2021 freedomhouse.org/country/china/freedom-world/2021 Growing up with the side of the family that naturally leaned towards the KMT, I was only exposed to their side of the political narrative. I was only made aware in 2018 that no, not everyone was ecstatic about the Chinese nationalists coming to take over Taiwan, and that Mandarin is only commonly spoken today in Taiwan because the Chinese nationalists enforced it after World War 2. Funny enough, my cousin on my mother's side of the family is very much on the opposite of the political spectrum than my father's. Not only does she chooses not to identify as Chinese at all, she is part of the faction of Taiwan that wishes to rid their country of "The Republic of China" and one day just be The Republic of Taiwan, given that this doesn't start a war. She cites the Treaty of Taipei and the Treaty of San Francisco. "Japan formally surrendered its claim to sovereignty over Taiwan on 28 April 1952, thus calling into serious doubt the authority of Japan to formally make such an assignment regarding the status of Taiwan over three months later on 5 August 1952. Indeed, British and American officials did not recognize any transfer of Taiwan's sovereignty to "China" in either of the post-war treaties" "The San Francisco Peace Treaty was signed on 8 September 1951 and ratified on 28 April 1952. The date of the ratification of the San Francisco treaty is the same date that the Treaty of Taipei was signed, that being 28 April 1952. However, the Treaty of Taipei did not enter into force until 5 August 1952 with the exchange of instruments of ratification between the two governments in Taipei.[4] While there is no explicit provision for the transfer of sovereignty over Taiwan from Japan to the Republic of China, Article 10 is taken by some scholars as an implicit transfer." The premise of citing these two treaties is that: a) Japan gained sovereignty over Taiwan in 1895, b) Japan lost sovereignty over Taiwan in 1951-1952, and c) Japan never indicated the "successor state" on Taiwan thereafter. Therefore, according to certain activists, this means that Taiwan is only controlled by the Republic of China on behalf of the WWII Allies, and does not constitute a part of the ROC's sovereign territory. I would be biased only to show you one side of the narrative. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiwan_independence_movement#Legal_basis_for_Taiwan_independence I realize that I have thrown a lot of information at you; you might have already finished your video so this effort of mine might be too late. I would be very happy to speak to you further if you would ever need to. I would also defer to two experts on the issue that I have come across over the past couple of years. twitter.com/catielila twitter.com/jessicadrun Thank you so much for your time, and I look forward to your video! Sincerely, Daniel Ku, a Chinese (of the ROC) - Taiwanese - Canadian.
