This is a fun idea! Regarding the girl who likes Sims 4 while her friend likes Sims 3 - Their communication is pretty terrible. A good example is my closest friend is a Disney adult who loves Crocs. I have literally no interest in Disney and _abhor_ the existence of Crocs. Thing is, I don't spend all my time trying to convince her she's wrong for loving the things she does. I get excited along with her and we laugh at my extreme dislike of the crocs. I still send her cute links and videos, etc about Crocs because it's so much fun watching her excitement. This Sims 3 girl is so focused on her obsession, she's not thinking about how her actions and words are affecting her Sims 4 loving friend. It's a shame, really. What a silly thing to nearly ruin a friendship over!

I think messing around with your simself and potentially your partner's is a good way to start a conversation about boundaries and jealousy. But then it requires communication and will to do so, which a lot of people not only lack, but sometimes are simply unaware of :v

About the little sister thing - that's why I think Sims 1 and Sims 2 save systems are superior. Because in those two you could share saves without much issues, games were designed with that in mind. In Sims 3 and Sims 4, you can't really do that, because if you switch your families at the wrong time everything gets flipped over - like you lose out on some events like new baby, sims might age up without you, you might lose out on important work day, in Sims 4 you might literally fail uni for doing that - so not allowing someone else to play the save is obviously justifiable. I remember that in our house we played both Sims 1 and Sims 2 in the same neighbourhoods with my mom and brother. Each of us had way different playstyles (my mom was pretty much a mansion builder in 1 and generational player in 2, my brother was mostly goofing around with single family, making his sims busted and using cheats and I was pretty much a rotational player with notes and goal to make the neighbourhood feel alive). We just had one rule about playing together - don't mess with other's sims (by messing we meant no killing, no forcing into cheating and no marrying without permission). And it worked, pretty much for x-teen years we had shared pc with sims on it. Sometimes I hope that maybe one day Sims will have something like that, but in like online way (so you could share the neighbourhood file with friends you'd want to play with) and that they would make story progression actually optionable (not like in Sims 4 where even if you turn it off you still might leave a sim sleeping in their bed with almost full motives, switch and return to the same sim just an hour later partying somewhere with almost empty motives).

about making your friend's family in the sims, i have to confess that i did that a lot as a kid in the sims 2, however only for my best friends. never about someone i'd just recently met, and that's what i really feel weird about in the post lol. not to mention that sims 2 didn't have traits and i was kind of a dumb kid bc I didn't know you could alter the personality in cas, i just gave everyone their zodiac signs and called it a day lol

I definitely made my friend's entire family as well because I wanted them as neighbors! But I think it's a little different when someone complains about a difficult relationship that they're trying to fix and you proudly show them you made that family member a total villain 😅
@JayTohab5 ай бұрын
For me, I almost feel like there's not enough info. Like, what was the attitude of the friend? Did she see it as like a joke, like "ha ha, you complain about your dad a lot, so I made him evil", or was it like "I'm giving you the validation you deserve by rightfully calling your dad evil"? I could see this being both an example of oversharing family drama and just not being prepared for the possibility of a friend doing this. So not the jerk, but maybe be a bit more careful with communication (both for disclosing personal stuff, and expressing discomfort)? idk
@totakluska5 ай бұрын
I feel like the dad situation was supposed to be a joke that clearly didn't land. Making a fake version of a disliked person to mess around with can be a great way to deal with negative emotions and frustratation, so I can see why the friend thought it'd be a good idea. The OP's relationship with the dad is clearly more complicated than that, though, so I also see why they didn't find that funny

That first story sounds familiar. When I was a kid, my sister got me into trouble for something that she did. I was pissed at her and I had our family in the game, so I completely ignored her sim, but whenever her sim self tried to do something to fill one of her needs I would cancel it out. Once her needs were deathly low, I finally showed her the sim and told her that if she didn't tell our parents the truth, her sim was dead. She laughed her ass off, but still told them the truth anyway, and I raised her needs again. She still reminds me of this. We get along very well and are very close, but she knows what will go down if she ever really pisses me off again.
@caitgrate61725 ай бұрын
This just reinforces my general discomfort with making my sim self. It hits a little too close to reality and starts getting a bit weird, in my opinion. I did try to build my parents' house in the game, but I'm a terrible builder so I didn't get far beyond the floorplan. edit- I mean weird to me. I made my family in the game when I was a kid but as an adult it just feels different and a little uncomfortable.

The person who made their friends family, we have to remember that they only know what they are being told especially if they’ve never met the person or aren’t constantly around them. If they’ve only heard them ranting about the bad things their dad has done, then in their eyes he is a bad person. She literally said how they’ve only talked for less than a year so she doesn’t know much so I’m not surprised

@miaumiausane5 ай бұрын
@Marticore But it's not about that. I get that comment and agree with that. It's not just liking different games. The way she describes her friend is so passive agressive. It's like she doesn't even like her. Describing sounds like she tried to make her friend look like a worse person, because "she can't use her imagination" or "she is blindly agreeing with youtubers (unlike me)". And the last part "aita for understanding how hard game development is?", it's like screaming "look at me! i'm smart and good and understanding! i'm the right one! my friend is wrong, because she knows less". It looks like she hates her friend, she made such an effort to describe her like she's a bad person, why are they even friends?

Exiling partner's Simself: Harmless emotional outlet for problems that both seem to be dealing with like adults in real life, NAH. Simself got a Sim girlfriend: She's not real, and the IRL girlfriend seems like she was a bit nasty about it, NTA. Made Simself and random Sim boyfriend: That is a bit weird and the boyfriend seems to be trying to have a reasonable adult discussion about it; I'll give the benefit of the doubt and say NAH. Doesn't share friend's Sims 4 hate: 1000% NTA, and that's coming from someone who doesn't like The Sims 4 _even as a micromanagey storyteller-type player._ Disliking something is fine, criticizing something is fine, heck, making a reasoned argument for why you think other people should view it through more of a critical lens is fine, but constantly spewing invective about it to a friend you know likes it is just an AH move. Not letting sister play their saves: Either NTA or NAH. Those are your saves, if you don't want others playing them that's fine. Making a copy of the save for them to play would be a good compromise, and honestly the reaction to the "I'll make a copy for you" strategy might help gauge whether this is NTA or NAH (it's NAH if she accepts it, indicating no intention to mess with the saves; it's NTA if she insists on the actual save, indicating at the very least disregard for the careful micromanagement). Upset friend made their family: Whoa. I'd say NAH, but with a BIG asterisk. Personally, I think the friend should really have consulted OP: "Hey, I want to make your family in my Sims 4 save, can you make some suggestions for their traits?"

I would definitely get offended if someone created my family members with nasty traits even if I shared certain unpleasant things about my relatives with them. Why can't people just assume that I'm being a pessimist or really mad when I say that my dad is abusive? Or why can't they see that at the end of the day it's none of their business? Especially the girl who's 23 (!) and yet her younger friend seems to understand such things much better. I'm personally very grateful to my mother who's always been teaching me not to say anything bad about my family outside of it. People will get wrong impression of your close ones that you won't change that easily. Just the way it happened to me: I kept a guy in my friendzone for about a year (I was dating another person back then). The guy from the friendzone said many unpleasant things about me to his friends and family members. But eventually that guy and myself got married! Just imagine the stares I'm getting from his brother when he comes to visit... I always feel guilty and somewhat dirty, and my only hope is that at least half of my new in-laws understand that my husband was exaggerating because he got friendzoned.

I’m the kind of person that would absolutely have a cow if someone messed with my saves. Like.. if someone wants to play my game on my computer they will not EVER touch my precious saves that I already have. I have one that I’ve had over 2 years now and I’m going on 40 generations with. I’ve spent many hours on it on just that one save alone. So I’d be devastated if I lost it. Also, people need to realize that this game is JUST A VIDEO GAME and the fact that people get mad at pixels on a screen blows my mind. You can do whatever you want with your simself. It’s not real.

I think TS4 has its good sides and I play it a lot, but I can see myself being the EA hater friend in the second one. I don't mind people enjoying and playing The Sims 4 but nobody is going to convince me the enormous greedy corporation is not delivering good content because "waaaaah game development is so hard"! If it was an indie studio, I would not complain. But what they're doing is so terrible at this point that we shouldn't defend them like this. It's not that they don't have enough resources or time to make good content (well, perhaps that was the case with the first version back in 2014 where I think they had to scrap and redo lots of stuff rushing the game - but it's been 10 years now, and like 80 dlcs), they just don't WANT to because they know Sims fans would settle for any crappy content just because it's the Sims.
@lumilumii5 ай бұрын
But I think the whole SIMS 2 VS SIMS 3 VS SIMS 4 discourse is nonsense because like you said, it all depends on the player's preferences. It's very subjective. I love all of them and which one I like best shifts depending on what I want to achieve and how I'm feeling! Right now I am having a full on Sims 4 phase. But I hate EA.

I'm a professional QA with a CS degree who literally worked in gamedev for 5 years. People try to argue with me about how gamedev is hard and I have to give TS4 some grace (which I don't BECAUSE I understand how bad what they're doing is more than people who don't have a similar background). When I tell them about being a professional in the field, they just ignore me. I think a lot of people for some reason feel like TS4 critique is a personal attack on them, as if they're not allowed to enjoy the game?.. It's very weird because I love the Sims and criticize TS4 because I actually want it to be better, like most of the people. Idk
