At 72, I do feel the most sorry for my grown son and grandchildren. This is such a harsher time than we grew up in. I am pretty content , even though I live alone , and am a plane ride away from everyone. I do pray and feel grateful everyday that I am still in good health, in my paid for home. I know health issues as people age can be so stressful. So I am able to garden , do my crafts, make something good to eat, read, and just try and remain content for where I am at this point of my life. I have a few good friends. But I am feeling the need to volunteer and meet others. I do notice I spend a lot of days alone.. But even though I am alone, I am never lonely. Thank you Jesus!

You have hit the nail on the head with this observation. I've been feeling this way..I'm 61 and starting to notice that I don't quite fit in this chaotic world the way I used to. Then I think to myself"did my Momma feel this way at my age?". Then I tell myself that it's the natural order of things.......except that there are changes in this world that are not normal. I'm sorry. 💔 My father had Lewy Body dementia, so I know a bit about how difficult that is. I couldn't imagine being a full time caregiver for someone with dementia. I hope you have family members who can help, or you're able to arrange some other resources for respite care. If you try to do it all yourself and put everything you have into caregiving, eventually you'll end up wearing yourself out, and you'll end up sick yourself. I know it's extremely difficult, but some time off for self care is really important. I wish you the best.

As A nurse, I have seen many ways caregivers take care of themselves. One is creating a quiet area in the backyard or house to go and be alone. A neighbor of mine had a wooded area behind her house. She created a small open area to place a small bench and chair. Everyday about 1pm while her husband, who had Alzheimer's, napped she would go and just sit in the seclusion alone. She continues to speak how that area continues to soothe her even though she's lost her husband.

HI from Annie thank you for your kind words of inspiration. Yes I agree it is a sad world out there and we have to focus on ourselves more and take better care of our mind body and spirit, if we don't no one else will. Reaching out to family is good if you have one that wants you and cares about you. But if your family ignores and pushes you out then what can you do nothing I have reached out so many times in past to be thrown out told to go away and the is sad coming from my only daughter she is 45yrs should know better. She won't let my grandkids see me or their father we are shut out. It is awful don't even have their contact details at all no address no phones etc blocked from facebooks etc. I have done nothing to deserve this is all came about when she remarried for second time, it was her buby who started it. I thought she loved me enough to say NO to her second huby and his control freak ways etc. We can't control much in our lives these days and it is scary and depressing. I have few friends they have changed only care about themselves and their families have no time to chat to me or met for a cuppa it is very disappointing when you trust others and they let you down. But as you say try to be in the present moment I try the best I can and just pray a lot for so many people and good things for this earth.

These mediums are masters of sensationalism. Today, I only read the Wall Street Journal to get all of the information I need (stay away from the Opinion section). The second thing I did was listen to my 40 year old step son. He has a blessed life that allows him to travel a lot and meet hundreds of people a year. He has convinced me that the heart of our great country is nothing like what is described by the corrupt media outlets. Bottom Line: the real world we live in is nothing like the world that is painted by the media. We all need to get out and find the country my step son has found. It’s out there for you to enjoy. People are still amazing.

Definitely a much healthier, better way to begin my day. I also walk most every morning, and decided to verbalize my daily gratitude journal entry, out loud, on my walk. That has become a very positive reminder of how blessed I am with my health and so much more. Thank you for the reminder that stressing over things we cannot control is an unfortunate, sad waste of our precious energy and time. Well, you're a breath of fresh air, Sandra! Wonderful message. I'll share one small suggestion, that's so easy to put into regular practice. When we "demonstrate curiosity" about others, we convey a message that the other person matters. Simply asking someone how they're doing (the cashier at the grocery store, the young employee checking me in at the gym, the person taking my coffee order), it gives them a small opportunity to share, and conveys caring and interest. It seems to make someone's day, even momentarily, brighter by simply and genuinely asking: how are you doing today? You have a new subscriber from western Canada. Warm regards.

You are not alone, Sandra. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed by all what is going on around me. I give God thanks for my blessings, and try to reach out to those in need as mucho as I can. I now have a bird feed in my backyard. It gives me so much joy and pleasure to watch the birds as I do dishes or clean up my kitchen. It's the little things that make the difference. Yes, as women, we must remind ourselves constantly that self care is important. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and concerns. Have a blessed Day.

Hello Sandra...thank you for sharing this message. By nature I'm a very positive person, but the past couple of years have been so draining on my spirit. I recognized this, so made an active plan to get off social media and stop watching the news. That helped Tremendously! Then I started learning new things (sewing, gardening, painting). I started hand writing letters to friends and all of that combined has been a real confort to me. I also actively withdrew my desire to impose my views on others. I let everyone be what they want to be. We're all on our own journey and that's ok. I wrote out a bunch of affirmations and prayers and I have them posted on a bulletin board that I read before getting out of bed.

Thank you for this today. I too have been stressed for a few years primarily over what is happening in our country. I know as one person I cannot change anything but it still is hard to not be upset. I have never in my 68 years of life ever seen such division and unkindness amongst people, not only strangers but family due to politics. It is disturbing and creates a feeling of helplessness. I have started to workout again which helps me to focus on myself and calms me.

Hi Sandra I feel exactly this way too. I’m 72 and am feeling the losses of people dear to me - beloved cousin who passed in March and a friend of over 50 years refused to accept my efforts to restore our relationship after a falling out- she was my confidant and we helped each other through many a crisis. Meanwhile my adult children make choices that worry me but like you said in another video, it’s a daily practice to let it go and let it be. I do exactly what you have prescribed: monthly facials are a special treat I give myself and help me look the best I can look for my age, I walk in the park, and I do lap swimming at local park pool. There’s something about swimming under the sunshine and enjoying the music and happy chatter of the people in the exercise class in the next lanes that make me feel part of life. But underneath is still the sadness that comes with attachment….what we love we will lose someday😢

As the secular, physical world peels away from you and your soul, remember there is much to be gained in the love of God and his kingdom. You can't live in His eternity until you shed everything of this world. That's what's going on. From earthly caterpillar to eternal butterfly. So take heart, the losses are part of the path to eternal gain.

I and my wife are in our mid '70s. We are being forced to move into our daughter's house into a garage converted into a bedroom with AC and winter heat. I have had to give up gardening, private personal space, and quiet when I need some. The worst is I have to give up my cat buddy I have loved for 15 years. He only knows this house and yard and would not adapt to a new living situation. I have to sell or give away almost all my personal possessions before we move. We are retired and have rented for many years and will see a big rent jump after summer due to inflatuon. We are tossing out stuff I have kept for over 35 years. It is almost overwhelming for me and is very depressing and demoralizing. I am not a religious person and neither is my wife, so we will just have to hang on as best as we can.

As I approach my 78th year on Earth there are so many things I'm beginning to realize that didn't catch my notice in years past. One looks back and realizes that you can't change the past nor can you control the future. My children have chosen not be in my life and I've come to accept it, but also choose not to be bitter about it. This body that I currently reside will no longer function at some point so I must face the inevitability of death in the coming years and allow my soul to move on. I have today, and the joy it holds. Thank God for music and Cigars.

I relate to this topic and discussion. I’m 53 and the world has changed so much in many very concerning ways. I feel powerless in most ways, but I think it’s helpful to keep in mind, one must not give up. Staying true to ones beliefs and values is paramount. On a daily basis, it really is about self care. For me, it sounds like you, it’s about my routine of eating well, daily yoga/ pilates/ walking and movement of some kind. I recently moved to a calmer city and that helped me de stress from some of the environmental stressors. I limit news and instead watch things of interest on KZbin. Your channel has helped restore some sanity to an otherwise crazy world!

I agree with you. The future always brings change. In this storm of life, finding peace and calmness is important. Human contact and sharing is important. As one gets older, one loses friends, family, and life's colours seem dimmer. We mustn't accept the dimness. Finding hobbies, hobbies you can share with others, finding new friends helps so much. For myself, I write stories and one of my hobbies is being a movie buff. I used to go to a cafe which showed movies for free in the evenings, the same customers often went and it became like a club and we would discuss the movies together. Unfortunately, it was in a different country which I had to leave not long ago, I really miss that. Now, back in my own country, I'd love to start my own cafe/cinema, but it seems difficult here. The problem with living abroad for so long and being forced to leave (due to the country's transformation and change in politics) one must leave behind all one's friends and family and return to a homeland that now feels foreign. No more family, no more friends, all unfortunately left behind. Having to adapt is important, very very difficult, but essential for the spirit to continue.

1:42 pm Dear Sandra, thank you for being authentic and open. The world could sure use more lovely people like you. After losing all 3 of my siblings, having my father pass and just weeks later my 29 year old son pass unexpectedly and my job gone then….. on and on. It seemed there would be no let up. My grief in losing my son was a million times more intense than any loss I ever suffered. It has now been 8 years and I feel I have finally come through hell and am back but not the same. Yet, able to laugh and enjoy like again. I never though I could fall so deep being a life coach who had worked with lots of people to help them go through transitions and heal. What I learned about grief it is it’s own train and you cannot stop it. You just have to ride it out or get crushed in its tracks. It did not take 8 years to laugh and enjoy life but I learned that you never know when the grief train in going to take you for another ride. Although over time, there becomes more distance between the rides grief takes you on. Taking breaks and doing simple nourishing things or just normal things helped me. Unfortunately, I was pretty isolated and did not have supportive family to turn to. I hope you are surrounded by love and support, as the loss of a spouse according to the grief counseling I went to at hospice said the loss of a spouse usually has the most intense grief for the first two years and a child five yet, grief is something that never totally goes away as you know from other losses. Please give your self the grace and love that you give to all of us as you navigate your new normal. Much love and appreciation! ❤ Michele

Simplicity: the essentials of what I truly need to live well. Order: internal and external creates harmony. Harmony allows me inner peace to appreciate beauty. Beauty opens me up to joy. While struggling through the final arrangement process for my wife of 26 years, the funeral director shared with me some much needed guidance. He spoke of a recent widowed client who had also lost a spouse. The man he explained, had given up his purpose in life and began to drink in order to bury his pain. Ultimately he lost his home, his way, and worst of all his remaining family and friends. Looking back now, I wonder if the story was even true. However, I've decided it doesn't really matter. It was a well intentioned and timed message that helps me to move forward to this day. I do my best to focus on taking care of myself and my 2 teen daughters. And to practice gratitude at every opportunity. We only get one chance at this life. And tomorrow is a brand new day....

Thank you for discussing this. I have really been put through the wringer in the past 3 years. Cancer, divorce, selling the home I raised my Children in. Then on April 21 I was in a car accident, a young girl who had no driver’s license, no insurance, and expired plates hit my brand new car I’ve only had for less than 2 months. I keep asking my friends, why is God allowing all of this happen to me??? Thank you for sharing your feelings. Not that I want you to be depressed, I am so sorry for that. But it made me feel better about my own life filled with depressing things when I hear beautiful you share that life isn’t perfect while you live in such a beautiful place, you are successful, and so pretty and fit for your age. Yes, I feel a lot of unhappiness and anger in the people around me. I think the pandemic has caused a lot of that. My best friend told me this weekend, the whole world is going to hell in a hand basket. I think that is true. I am going to try my best to make MY little environment around me a happy place. I stopped watching the news and all "reality" shows. I spend my time on the Internet doing what pleases me and my wife does the same. I always have my shortwave radio on in the background and enjoy that very much. Sucks getting old! lol

You are not alone lately I felt very stressed and heavy hearted although I stopped watching the news , so I decided to have a 4 day trip and go visit my friend in TX who I haven’t seen for almost 8 years to celebrate her 70th birthday ,unfortunately she was just divorced and felt lonely . Great video thank you ❤️

My son joined the Army straight out of highschool 2020, and I was never so depressed. Not only did we move from the home we raised him in, but he got stationed all the way across the US. He comes to visit at least once a year for a few days and is coming home in June this year. I am so elated! I do soak in the young people and just enjoy watching them, and enjoy learning from them.

My son did the same. I was shocked at the mix of pride and tears of sadness. A chapter was closing for me, and I was acutely aware that nothing would ever be the same. Now he’s getting married and his fiancé has him calling and visiting more often. I guess a new, different chapter is beginning.

Debra, I love having young people around, too. It’s too quiet when they’re gone. I really feel for you. It’s not like college, with regular breaks and summers off. Glad to hear you’ll get to see your boy soon. Cherish every moment ♥️

Sandra, I listen to you every Tuesday but the first time commenting. I really enjoyed this video because it flowed right in the theme of my year-mindfulness. After visiting my sister last year who has dementia, I decided I have to stop worrying and enjoy each day that I am blessed with. I realized that I have to take care of my Joy!! Thank you Sandra, my husband has also passed on.
