Part 10 of Hamilton was uhhhh well it was an experience…just watch it & you’ll see lol 😹 Based on how things went with the last video that I thought Alex was cheating (part 4), I’m sure the comments on this are gonna be interesting but oh well this was my genuine reaction. If you liked the video please make sure to hit the like button because that last video that was like this one has the most dislikes of any Hami Part so far & this will probably be worse than that lmao 😅 By the way I have A LOT more to say about the music & writing in the outro so makes sure to stick around for that! Anyway just like with the previous videos, KZbin was shooting me like Aaron Burr over the music AND the visuals so I had to make some cuts to the songs & cover it with text (this was the least intrusive editing method I could find that they’d accept). I posted the entire intact reaction (full songs, no text covering the visuals etc.) on my patreon here www.patreon.com/posts/115897989 if you’re interested, but if not I’d suggest pulling up the soundtrack & playing it own your own so you can hear the INSANITY of what I’m hearing in full lol. PLEASE DO NOT SPOIL MAJOR PLOT POINTS IN YOUR COMMENTS (or at least start your comment with "spoilers" so I know to avoid it)! It takes away the point of future reactions if you just tell me everything that happens later so instead let me experience it during the process of watching Hamilton myself. I have moderators who are scanning the comments & deleting spoilery comments so don’t leave spoilers cause it will just get removed anyways. Lastly if you see others leaving comments that include spoilers please reply to it indicating that it has spoilers so I know not to read it, thank you in advance. Anyways make sure to check out the other parts here kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4mQnIyfe6p4rLs & subscribe not to miss future parts! 🦁❤💛

You asked for a decent founding father - John Adams. Respected and didn’t cheat on his wife, was pivotal in calling for independence from England, and was an abolitionist. His big fault was he could be a bit of a snob. HBO has a wonderful mini series based on his life. It’s basically from his perspective and he hated Hamilton, so just know that going in. Lol The cast is great and it’s really good.

Long time listener first time commenter. A few things: 1) Hamilton absolutely should have gone away for the summer. AND it wasn't that simple then with "I will loose my job if my bill doesn't pass " Yes, they had ink. He could have wrote more letters AND in our time we call the usps "snail mail" they were working with even longer mail delays. If conress was in session, he literally *couldn't* both leave the city and defend his position. 2) YES. Way back in act 1 and your thing about Angelica - yes. We have all been following and coming back each week knowing what is coming next. But it's not from a place of hate. We get to relive our first time seeing it with you. And that is special. 3) you: it can't get any worse. Us: ....just you wait..... 4) thank you commenter who mentioned everything went to shit as soon as Alexander mentioned Macbeth. I can't believe I missed that. 5) YES. All of our founding fathers were ho's- or at least VERY flawed humans. And Alexander was a known ho before he was married "Martha had a tom cat named after him" was a reference to how much a ho he was. (There is a deeper conversation to be had about art and the artist here. In a more modern context. Do we Chuck the decloration of independence because Jefferson is literally a monster? Vs how we react when our idols fail us in real time.) 6) i honestly love every time you pause. It means you are thinking deeply about a piece that should be thought deeply about. I adore that you come at it from the angle you have. You keep doing you. Been hear for it 10 times now. I see no reason to change what works. 👑

And I appreciate you guys coming on this journey with my immensely! 3) "it can't get any worse" famous last words at this point 😭 4) YES! I missed that too! It was a great point! 5) "Do we chuck the declaration of independence because Jefferson is literally a monster? Vs how we react when our idols fail us in real time" Wow now this is a great conversation starter! Really makes you think. 6) "It means you are thinking deeply about a piece that should be thought deeply about. I adore that you come at it from the angle you have." I really appreciate that! I feel like just sitting there & making faces at the screen would be such a disservice to the work & myself when this masterpiece is sooooo layered & nuanced it's just begging to be analyzed. How do you say no to this?
@jenski533818 күн бұрын
@AmariLeone it really doee and I think that point 5 and 6 bleed together - once you are done experiencing this play, you will also be exposed to peeps who hate it (if you haven't already because it's problematic. ) and it is. It really is. Things were Hella overlooked - just like all of American history. And this is the thing I hope younger than I think about. At the end of the day your choices are goinng to be the norm Is the decloration of independence trash because Thomas Jefferson is a monster? What is the meaning of art vs artist. John Lennon was a misogynist fuck *and* he wrote "Imagine " Does JK's aweful stance in real life eradicate everything people found community in with Harry Potter? Does Neil Giaman's failure as a human get to erase decades worth of love for that art and the people who found themselves there? Back in the day - we found out people where aweful when they died. I'm asking all of us about art vs author because we suddenly have to do it in real time.
@jenski533817 күн бұрын
5) it's a conversation I want to observe. I'm a 50 year old white woman. In the grand scheme of how the world views art going forward, my opinion means so very little compared to the young folk like you. You don't have to have all the answers right now. And it's a conversation worth having amongst the young creators. You know, all of us are less than perfect. At what points do your sins eradicate your art or at what point does someone else's sins erratic their art. I found my comfort zone. It's different from the current culture. Yall kids need to figure it out. I would very much like to watch the conversation happen. Because we all have to have the conversation. Hamilton is a little perfect here for that conversation. You feel his good. You relate to his good. And he also was an asshole. 6) seriously. You keep doing you. When you catch a light motif 15 seconds in and pause to point it out, I cry that you feel the need to apologize for it. This work, as problematic as it may be, is rich and rewarding. I will never ever be annoyed because someone else catches all the things a writer set out for the audience to catch. That's just paying attention! 7) i can't wait for you to hear Burn.

@@Chandra-pm6qlWe do have some letters said to be from Maria Reynolds and some other context of things Maria was forced into doing by Reynolds outside of the Hamilton situation. Knowing this context leads some historians to believe that she was not a fully willing participant (at least at first). If the letters are to be believed she eventually caught feelings for Hamilton and Reynolds used her wanting access to him as a way to exploit her further . I do agree that most of the picture painted comes from how Reynolds abused her in their relationship as a whole. Especially everything that came about the horrid abuse (including trafficking) during their eventual divorce proceedings. Reynolds also had a pattern of abusing other women in his life. I would love to really have her side regarding the Hamilton situation itself, but sometimes we just have to piece things together. One thing says a lot about what she was up against. It’s that Maria led a respectable life after she and her children got out of that tangled web with Reynolds and his partner in crime.

Loving the reviews. Part of Alex getting his plan through congress included having to meet personally with a larger number of senators & reps. It wasn't something he could do at a distance. Going back and forth was probably at least a couple days travel, by carriage and a little faster by just horse. Roads weren't back then what they are now. Alex wrote Angelica to vent his frustration, and discuss intellectual matters... mostly. There was some light flirtation. The comma thing was actually something Angelica wrote to with "My dear, Alexander" and he wrote her back making it into a joke. There is no evidence that he and Angelica ever hooked up. The Reynolds actor also played the girls' father, and had a wicked dance move in The Schuyler Sisters. Keep up the good work. Also in Say No to This, one has to remember that inflation would raise the $30 gave Maria by 3000%, so about a $900. She had a young daughter. Reynolds was a violent man and she latter divorced him (BURR WAS HER LAWYER!). She also said he'd physically abuse their young daughter. Don't give her too much hate. Burr married Theodosia as soon as she was available after her husband was killed in the war. He was incredibly devoted to her, and her early death devastated him. She was not a beauty, had pox scares, had no fortune or family fortune to rely on, but she was brilliant, like Burr's mother was. He became a total rake after her death, though.

Basically, you could go to the theatre each afternoon and enter a lottery, and if you won, you could buy a ticket to that night's show for $10. (Lots of shows do similar lotteries, but the next part was unique to Hamilton.) Once a week, when the crowd was gathered outside the theatre for the lottery drawing, they'd put on a performance outside. It might be someone singing a song from the show, or a song from another show, or whatever -- just some kind of short fun performance. There was someone who videoed all of them and put them on KZbin. For one of those performances, they had the kids from Fun Home (another show that was playing on Broadway at the time, which had three child characters and several kids playing them) come over as the special guests, and they did Philip's little rap from "Take a Break," with each kid doing a verse to briefly tell the story of each of Hamilton's kids. DO NOT WATCH IT UNTIL YOU'VE SEEN THE END OF THIS SHOW, THOUGH. Their stories reference a bunch of stuff that you haven't seen yet. Once you've finished watching, though, definitely check it out.

Was waiting for your reaction to this one! One thing I love about Say No to This is that it’s explicitly from Hamilton’s perspective (“I’ll let him tell it”). So I think it’s open to interpretation what actually happened here and what is biased in his favor, painting himself as a victim and Maria as a seductress (screw you Hamilton). A theme that will continue to be important -who tells the story?
@AmariLeone18 күн бұрын
According to a comment on Patreon, irl she was a victim (don’t know if that’s true or not & didn’t fact check to see as to avoid getting spoiled for future story bits) but my reaction here is solely about what’s happening in the musical itself. If she was in fact a victim in this situation then it's incredibly tragic and makes the situation way more complex but one thing doesn't change which is "I hate that guy" (Reynolds) 😹

I just feel like you're definitely needing like 3-5 business days to recover after every part of act 2. I absolutely love it though. Every part of this show is so intricate and well written.

I know right, I can't even imagine how you guys make it through the entire show in person with no time to freak out in between 😭

@@AmariLeone People who really love musical theatre, at least those of us who are crazy, this is what we love. We want our hearts broken, we want to feel all of things even if it kills us. It's fairly well known that in musicals the first act is happy and there's a lot of build up and the second act is when everything falls apart, goes wrong, and is devastating. It's not always the case, but it definitely happens more often than not. My favorite musicals are always the sad ones. LOL

Really enjoyed this video. Knew to expect your brain to melt at Say No to This, and you did not disappoint, though I feel badly that it hit you that hard. Loved the way you caught the overlaid motifs at the start of Take A Break. Great ear! Looking forward to the next video! 👑

Macbeth theatre superstition goes hard in Hamilton 😭

I remember the first time I watched Hamilton I was like yelling "NO!" at the TV the entirety of say no to this. I feel like the chorus is like the way the audience (and maybe even Lin?) felt about the situation. You want to put these people on pedestals, especially when you relate to them or see people you love in them, but you realize even people who have awesome aspects can be terrible too.

👑 hey Amari, another incredibly great video. Full of great insight, emotion, humor, and intellect. I knew this one would hurt your heart; it hurt mine too. You are so gifted in your reactions. Thank you again. You have a beautiful soul; please stay that way. I don't think many people are for cheating, so take heart in that. Looking forward to the next video, as always.

All of us knowing what was to come; watching walk this path to Say No To This...just delicious. Your head bopping to the music and then froze at the line "...let her legs spread and said..." the sadist in all of us just feeling whatever this emotion is called. The Germans probably have a term for it. But yeah, your shock, frustration, anger, disbelief- *chef's kiss*
@aydenkelly627413 күн бұрын
The Germans do have a word for what we were all feeling - Schadenfreude - enjoyment of poor Amari's misfortune (in discovering Hamilton 100% is betraying Eliza)

ALSO the way Hamilton tried to make us feel sorry for him before we saw the transgression by saying that you never seen a bastard orphan in more need of a break

Yeah, he was up for days and days, couldn’t go to the lake - but somehow magically found time to have multiple trysts with Mrs. Reynolds? I don’t think my eyes can move to the side enough
