For dim sum you need to get the "classics" such as crystal shrimp dumpling or beef rice roll or siu mai. For cheesecake you need to go to Junior's in Brooklyn. NYC is such a foodie town. It's great!

Now that's some awesome food! The bagel with the lox and stuff is classic. Pastrami on rye was one of my dad's favorites. I'm in Chicago and the best memory with my folks was waking up early on Sunday morning and going with them to the butcher, bakery and deli on Devon Ave. What a special time that was. Loved the video, 😊
@Tom_from_Midtown
@Tom_from_Midtown Жыл бұрын
As a NYer, you guys were spot on with your assessment. 1) A NYC bagel with lox and cream cheese is an absolutely transformative experience. 2) Katz's pastrami is a splurge but worth the price 3) Places like Nom Wah are overpriced hype (you're really just paying for the ambience of the street and feeling like you're on a movie set). 4) You were also right on with Magnolia's pudding - good, but totally overpriced. 5) Same with the cheesecake being overpriced and way too small! 6) dollar pizza is hit or miss but that one looked pretty bad. 7) As for Halal, that's hit or miss too, but every one ALWAYS has the red sauce that's unbearably hot! Everyone's made that mistake once of thinking it might be like regular hot sauce but just a single drop will ruin your whole meal. Great video, you've got yourself a new subscriber and fan!
@PurtyPurple
@PurtyPurple 3 ай бұрын
The moment I saw them hold up that dollar pizza and it was stiff like cardboard I knew it would be trash XD Edit: I agree completely with your assessments. I find the main problem with food here is usually not that it's bad, just bad value for the price.

2:33 "New York, I want to do tumaywah" - Alessio 2022. NYC is the land of many cultures. It is estimated that around 800 languages are spoken in the city, so NYC is bound to have something for everyone. And when in doubt, have a pickle. Not eating a pickle is a crime against society Alessio really showed his inner French purist with this one by being appalled by something that's croissant-like that isn't in the shape of a croissant.

Nom Wah actually opened up a branch in Philly. Food is delicious, but it probably doesn't compare to the original. Sadly, you guys didn't order the staple dim sum stuff like the shumai or har gow. the fried shrimp balls are delicious too, but Nom Wah has the best stuffed peppers, at least in the philly branch
@nstreet16
@nstreet16 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. If you’re going to go to a dim sum place, get egg rolls and pan fried/veggie dumplings then you’re in the wrong place. Dim sum is Shrimp Har Gow, Pork Xiu Mai, Shrimp or beef rice paper rolls, turnip pan fried cake… otherwise, go to a dumpling place for those.

But shady Asian places are where the legit food is at😅😅 and agree with what someone else said down below earlier: it’s best to get the staples of dim sum like shumai (or shaomai), chicken feet, fried bean curd, haicao (shrimp dumplings), and whatever else that place is known for.

The deep green pickles are called half-sour pickles. They have a lower acidity.If you leave it long enough in its brine, the green color fades and the acidity increases. At Breads Bakery you missed their Baguette. It won a contest sponsored by the NY French Consulate. A jury of French Boulangers and Pâtissiers named it the best in NYC. It's now the official baguette for the Consulate, through 2022 year end.

If you cross the river into NJ there is a classic North Jersey deli sandwich you should try, the Sloppy Joe (has nothing to do with ground beef.) Corned Beef or Pastrami is good too.), swiss cheese, coleslaw, and Thousand Island/Russian dressing.

As an old school Born and Bred New Yorker, my two cents... - Lox and Cream Cheese = Yes, classic New York - French Toast bagel with birthday cake cream cheese. Just like your Italian husband. As a New Yorker, "No, just no" :( - Pastrami on Rye or Corned Beef on Rye from Katz's = Yes! Classic New York! :) - New York does have great Chinese food though. Woo Hop (legend) and Joe's Shanghi (newer legend) - 99 cent Pizza scares New Yorkers too - Cronut was just a trendy gimmick. Not classic New York. New York does have amazing bakeries - Magnolia Bakery just got famous because of Sex and the City, not so much because of its food. It's not a landmark for New Yorkers. It's a landmark for tourists. $5 is cheap for New York. You're paying their rent too when you go to these places. Dominique Ansel Bakery is more of a landmark for New Yorkers. - Cheesecake. Most New Yorkers eat cheesecake at a diner or local bakery. Junior's in Brooklyn is good too. $7-$9 is average. New York real estate is expensive. - New York Hot Dogs. There are Four ways. 1) From a cart with onions (it's not raw onions, It's in a light tomato/paprika sauce), 2) from a Kosher Deli (sauerkraut and mustard). 3) Nathan's, 4) Gray's Papaya. - Halal Food Cart food is not traditional New York. They just popped everywhere these days. So nice you guys gave the food to the homeless man

I don't know if they're still around, but many years ago when I was a kid in NY, you used to be able to buy fresh, hot, soft pretzels at stands, a bit like hot dogs. I used to love those things!

NY Cheesecake is very expensive but true Cheesecake Lovers don't mind the price it's worth it!!! I bought my boyfriend a half of a cheesecake at Juniors in Midtown Manhattan and it was $50.00 yes for half a cheesecake but so worth it!! Juniors is world famous for their cheesecakes!!! Very creamy and delicious!!!! I'm 100% Italiano and I love cheesecake even better then Italian cheesecake!!! 🇮🇹🇮🇹

When I was homeless .99 pizza wasn't so bad. The best was in Time Square picking through the garbage. Because they were always full I would just wait until a tourist would dump a full topping pizza out in the top of the garbage and be able to eat it before it touched anything funky.

You should try the pizza next to Casa de la Mozzarella. Also, have a cappuccino at Frank’s bakery and some pignoli cookies. Will make Alessio feel like he’s back home.

My mother makes the best New York Cheese Pie. She says that if you make cheesecake it's not the same. It is fantastic it is in a great sweet flaky crust with a cooked cream cheese, eggy, sweet cream filling topped with cinnamon and nutmeg sprinkled on top. She said she got the recipe for it from her Italian neighbor where grew up in Gibbstown, New Jersey almost straightacross the Delaware River from Philadelphia. I will have to get this recipe from her, she is 92 now and still spoils her 66 year old son with it.
