It's amazing to see how old tires, both small and large, are collected and recycled in South Korea. The process of separating tires from their wheels and removing the wire cords inside is so intricate. The shredded tires are then used as fuel for cement factories, which is a brilliant way to recycle and reduce waste. The sheer power of the machines used to shred the tires and extract the wires was impressive. It's incredible to witness how something as common as old tires can be transformed into a valuable resource for cement production. This video gave me a whole new appreciation for recycling and the innovative ways we can repurpose materials!

The process of using shredded tires as a fuel source at a cement plant is used in Canada here as well. They use it to fuel the drier (or dryer) section. It's like a huge clothes drier but very long. It tumbles the damp cement along its length, while moving it from one end to the other. They are VERY secretive about the whole process!

Usually it's the rotary kiln. Feedstock to make cement (usually powdered limestone), plus tires (added fuel), goes in one end. Clinker comes out the other. Clinker is ground in a ball mill with gypsum added to make Portland cement - the binder that goes into make concrete (Portland cement + sand + aggregate (rocks), .

As long as you have the "smoke stack scrubbers" to filter the smoke i think this is better than burying the tires and waiting hundreds of years for them to break down.

Not scrubbers, basically the carbon-laden partially burned smoke gets burned a second time and more energy is extracted from it.

Wow I've been a heavy truck mechanic for over 30 years and never seen what happens to the tires. I do know that they "Recap" tires. Not as much as before and I think that has something to do with the cost and the danger. People see part of the tire all over the side of the road but in reality they make millions and millions of them and it's such a small present that failed. Anyway I wanted to say that I can't believe how fast the wires come out and super clean. One would think that it would have rubber all stuck in the wires. Ty for putting stuff like this up for the world to see 👍 🇨🇦

Not entirely, I worked at a tire shop for several years from the mid 90's to the mid 2000's, there is a ton of technology in tires today and the crazy sizes that are more about how the car looks with 18" to 22" wheels than making practical wearing tires, a big part of making the tread cab thinner is to get the tire lighter to balance and ride better, old tires may have only been 18 to 25 inches around, now many are 25 to 35 inches, and people complain more now than ever about ride and vibration.
