Real trail test ride of the Amazon dirt bike Templar 250 sold by Xpro the makers of many different Chinese pit bikes like the Storm 150 DLX. This Templar offers decent quality for the bargain cost of $1399 total with shipping was $1700 to my door. This is a Dual sport motorcycle meaning I got a plate to ride on the street as well as offroad.

You cannot beat that Templar price.. but for $1K more ($2800 in mid 2024) you can get the Lifan KXP250. I'm very impressed. Fuel Injected, Overhead Cam, Claimed 20HP, 6 Speed, Fuel Guage. Full Size. Suspension is Very Good once you set the rear spring. Starts right up every time, good electrical system. I think it's worth the extra money, for a knock around bike.

I have the 300cc version of that engine in my Hawk 250. The transmission “notchiness” will ease up after a few hundred miles. Initial break in is at 500 miles, then at @ 1000 miles, that engine will start to really sing!

Seems like a great scoot! Perfect buddy bike. Sorry you’re catching hate. I bleed orange, but 12-14k for a new KTM (that’s also now made in China) is silly. Hopefully this bikes price gets more people on trail, which is the most important thing at the end of the day. Thanks for the vid.

I appreciate that these bikes make it cheaper and easier for more people to get out on the trails and enjoy the sport. Sure, maybe they're not right for everyone - but they're right for lots of folks, whether it's a long-term bike, or just a stepping stone to something else. Plus the more people that buy them, the better the quality continues to get.

China bikes are great if people keep expectations real. Of course it’s not as good but it’s really cheap. I have a Chinese atv that 3 boys learned on with 10yrs of WOT and I’ve had to replace the front hubs which were $15 on Amazon. Still starts right up and doesn’t smoke

Great weight and price comparisons versus some of the other 150, 200, etc small dual sports out there. Dealers were marking up the XT250 to over $7,000 a couple of years back. Crazy! Ended up paying huge dealer markup on an XR150L for my daughter mostly for brand name for her sake, but I would have been just as happy with a Templar. BTW, the Templar X just came back in stock today at X-Pro!

These Chinese motors are great nowadays, from what I've heard alot of them just take outdated honda/kawi/ etc blueprints and make carbon copies. Only thing that worries me is electrics and bearings and such but at that price point it's no deal breaker. Totally agree with your 2 stroke opinion too, they just need constant pampering, an air cooled 4 stroke might not be as much fun as a snappy smoker but might end up on a crf250f in the future just for the simplicity...

Awesome video as always Mike! I really can't understand haters.. I mean back in the 60’s- and 70’s, JAPANESE bikes were considered throwaway bikes by large groups of riders, especially because they were siginifigantly cheaper than American or Euro bikes at the time! Of course time proved that stereotype wrong.. I get guys not wanting to "fund" Communist China, but that train of logic left the station long ago..

How funny all the negative talk about Chinese bikes?! They clearly don’t know that about 80% of all bike parts come from China! Including KTMs. They should do some research about where the parts that make their Austrian or Japanese bike parts come from. They’re basically just built in the countries they’re based in. And not all the time! Many ‘high end’ branded bikes are built AND assembled in China now. And no, I’m not a communist - just a realist. DYOR!

I always laugh when you hear all the crap from people about these bikes. 99% have never even had any experience with them. If asked, it's like "yeah, my uncles friends wife's brother had one 25 years ago and it was junk!" Are they as good as a Japanese bike? no, but they are certainly not crap. I've had an Orion RXB-250cc that I bought in 2019 that's been perfect. I don't ride it into the ground and I take good care of it, but nothing's ever broke and it's never left me stranded. I bought 2 Apollo RFZ DB X-18 125cc at the same time for my boys and nothings ever broken on them than wasn't the fault of my kids (i.e Broken brake levers and such from crashing). I did upgrade the carburetors on the two 125's after a few months, but other than that nothing has ever broken or failed.

Been on the fence between this one and the rfz. Leaning towards this one for the headlight. I’m old and not hitting the motocross track. I race pit bikes with the kids. Can’t risk a 40ft+ digger so I keep it on the little track for adrenaline. Just want an affordable trail bike to explore and have fun. Maybe a few dusk evening trail rides sounds awesome! Is the power sufficient? I’m 180lbs 6’. I just don’t want buyer remorse. But also don’t want to open the race bike can of worms. Repair costs, water pumps, gaskets and rings. Rather spend under 2k for a warranty and reliability. Not looking for 10k rpm’s. Just want a trail grunt.

Well done talking about the bike through the entire ride -not sure that's something I would try😉 One thing I wanted to share after just procuring a '23 Hawk DLX is that the correct term for these is actually "Enduro sport", not "duel sport" like I originally thought -or that they mean the same thing. Duel sport denotes motocross capable bikes that have been made street legal with lights and mirrors and such. Enduro sport properly defines these bikes that you and I have as being much more tamer versions not meant for Evil Knievel stunts and jumps of a duel sport. My take away is that you do not want to exceed the limitations of these bikes -keeping all of that in mind. I always go with "bumps -not jumps", anything beyond that is at your own risk
@Mikefestiva
@Mikefestiva 2 ай бұрын
Hope you enjoy your new bike 👍 I have been calling this style bike a dual sport for the past 30 years along with just about every one of my friends. Probably will stick with the term. People have called them enduros as well, that seems to come about back in the 70s. Dual sport refers to dual purpose street/offroad.

@@Mikefestiva I've been riding since the '70's and dual sports ARE street legal trail bikes, not street legal motocross bikes like these kids keep saying today. Lol

You know it's going to be a good Friday when a new Festiva video drops! I wonder how many negative commenters watched or posted from their Chinese made TV, computer, or phone? Keep plugging away Mike. I guess the upside to me having a channel nobody watches is there are no comments to be concerning with!😁

Sure, the bike has only like 5 hp at the most but there’s nothing wrong with the Chinese. They are cheaper because they’re made with cheaper parts. That’s why you’re getting a brand new 250 cc for under two grand a 250 of a reputable brand is about $8000. Get what you pay for.. I have dirt bikes and they are fantastic once you upgrade them a little bit, you won’t be winning no drag races and you ain’t going up any steep passes for the most part but if you just trying to ride, they are perfectly fine
@Mikefestiva
@Mikefestiva Ай бұрын
They seem to be fine. So far the bike is still holding up well especially for the price. Haha it’s not a power house but makes more than 5 HP. I think it’s about 18HP or so stock 👍

Cool bike - thanks for the vid.. every single one of those idiotic comments you received would have been sent from a Chinese made mobile phone, perhaps while they sat in their american made car; itself containing thousands of components made in China. At least eye-rolling and laughing at those comments is entirely free!

Looks like fun. Looks like a good solution for an extra bike for spouses, or friends for that price. Curious if it has any emissions stickers, stamps on the pipe, or VIN numbers to allow registration as is needed in most of the States for riding on public lands. A lot of the hate comes from what has traditionally come from China, terrible welds, bad metals, poor assembly. It really comes down to QA and QC. There usually isnt any for most of those companies. Ive been to many Chinese factories doing inspections and have seen this a lot first hand. Heck, Im sure a lot of the Japanese or even European bikes are actually 95% made in China, but if you are on them to make it right, its just fine. Just cause it says made or assembled in Taiwan, Japan, etc that doesnt mean much. Ive seen them walk products on the back of a bike and import them from different countries just to say its made or assembled there.

Been thinking of selling my kx250 smoker and getting a klx300 or just adding a tm35 and keeping the kx. I’ve always liked the wheel base of the kdx and the klx is basically the same except the weight factor. Wish they made a air cooled 400cc Chinese 4 stroke.

really tempting compared to the klx 300 or honda 300 dualsport. the honda is even hard to find at my local dealerships. i was in the market for a quad in 2021 and my buddy told me about this brand CFMOTO. a chinese company that was thousands of dollars less than the competition. so i went for it and got the 1000cc overland quad. overall i am very impressed with the build quality. sure, the suspension isnt as plush as a polaris but it has plenty of power and we will see how it holds up over the years. i was always skeptical about chinese powersports because they were pretty junky. but they have definitely stepped their game up.

I'm an older guy, and weigh in at 240. Any suggestions on a dual sport for my size? I'm 5.9". Can you upgrade the shocks? I have a couple vintage 'dual sports'. A Honda 1970 CT90 and a 1982 Honda XL 185s. I would like something a bit more modern, these are just for putting around.

this is just what I'm looking for price wise. I've been looking at the Kawi 450 type but it is way more than I need to spend on something I would only use for just putting around the forest on, not racing, just sight seeing. I hope they have larger models for taller people.

Hi Mike, another great video! I'm having a great cup of coffee that I brewed with my Chinese made Hydroflask insulated French press. I buy non Chinese as much as possible but that Hydroflask press is about a third of the cost of a US made one, it's just reality. As far as 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke, my Dad always steered us to the 4 strokers for reliability and longevity.
